During an escalating neighbor fight between a Dutch man and a Moroccan family about a piano being lifted into the Moroccans' house, a group of Moroccan teenagers irritates the man, prompting him to destroy the piano. Watchman Romano Hartseer and officers Tina Zonderland, Jeroen van Veen and Sylvester Daals are called to the scene, and when Sylvester apparently kills Faysal, one of the youngsters, a destructive riot ensues. With the police station's chief gone and the new chief, Arend van der Voort, not yet present, detective Lucas Visbeen has the difficult task of managing the extremely hectic day. Sylvester feels guilty for Faysal's death, plagued by his Lonsdale childhood in Volendam. His sordid history has been disclosed to pesky lawyer Prem Radhakishun and fierce Moroccan politician Tara el Hamchaoui by the station's former chief. Tara also accuses the police force of racism after Lucas makes an unwise decision in sending the mobile units to the riot. Detective Altan Uslu looks after his younger brother, Efe, who is being forced to hide heroine for a dealer, and is startled by the return of his criminal cousin Dogan. Officers Teun Gerards and Helga Kuiper are called to a scene of public indecency, which turns out to be a group of idealists trying to stimulate brotherhood between races by shooting interracial porn videos. Teun is startled by the 'mastermind' behind the 'organisation', the seductive Charmaine. An old lady, Mrs. Hartekamp comes to the police station claiming her radio has been stolen. Romano tries to have his stinky uniform cleaned; detective Leona Savonet receives it and hands it to him.

While undercover in an illegal casino, Leona and Lucas clash when Lucas wants to continue the operation until the mastermind behind the organization is found while Leona is more concerned about saving a young employee who is being beaten by one of the owners. Lucas also gets visits from a mysterious, attractive woman who turns out to be his dancing partner in a competition. Altan and Evert investigate an act of vandalism against a Turkish butcher which might have been committed by Dogan's gang. Altan finally tells Arend about his family dilemma. Helga worries about getting her kids home as her husband, who has a burn-out, is unable to do so, and helps her former Dutch teacher overcome his fears for two out-of-control students who went as far as setting his hair on fire in class. Teun feels attracted to Charmaine and visits her in her brothel. Theo, who is still plaguing Efe, is mysteriously shot at night. Mrs. Hartekamp visits the police station again, this time to report a stolen coffee blender.

After Kenneth de Boer, who has been arrested for brutally beating a young woman, goes free on a technicality, Jeroen continues monitoring him and tries to track him down when he attacks his victim again. Romano deals with a group of taxi drivers who claim to be discriminated by a snack bar owner who refuses to let in more than two of them at once. When Mrs. Hartekamp reports her radio stolen again, Tina, who is appalled by her colleagues not taking the old lady seriously, discovers that she has dementia and comes from a group home. Teun and Helga are alienated by a teenage boy who first reports his wallet stolen and then, when a girl fitting his given description of the thief is found, denies it was her. Teun also visits Charmaine again. Evert and Altan investigate the murder on a young Hindu. Arend confronts Evert about his racist remarks and receives a controversial offer from Tara el Hamchaoui- she suggests using unemployed people with poor chances of getting other work to fill in the understaffed police station'ss extra hours. Crazy garbage cleaner Jules finds Theo's corpse, and Dogan calls Altan, implying that Efe was the killer. Lucas has won his dancing competition.

Tara's controversial plan has almost fatal results when a young volunteer locks a thief with a stroke in a room while he needs medical attention. Romano and Tina deal with a spousal abuse victim who refuses to press charges despite acknowledging the abuse. Evert visits a therapist for his racism, and it turns out to be a Surinamese. Lucas investigates the murder on Theo and searches Efe's snack bar. Altan confronts Dogan about Efe, but Dogan tries to blackmail him. While buying Romano something to eat, Sylvester is held hostage by a homicidal religious fanatic in a DVD store. Jeroen is shocked to find out that a doctor didn't tell his drug-addicted client that his rehab medicine would cause him to lose control of his bladder. Teun suspects that a woman reporting a case of child abuse is just lonely and flirting with him, but may be wrong. He keeps visiting Charmaine.

Plagued by her own past, Leona tries to track down an abusive lover-boy. Sylvester deals with a 6 year-old boy who terrorizes a sport club. Altan and Lucas investigate a robbery. Evert, whose anti-racism therapy seems to be starting to work, is furious that Arend paired them, reminding him of Lucas's not-so-subtle search of Efe's snack bar earlier. Tensions do arise between them, but not about this- Altan is alienated by Lucas's decision to let the real culprit fly after his brother, a much bigger fish, takes the blame by confessing to the crime. Jeroen has to look after his kids because his ex-wife wants to spend more time painting. Arend is startled when Tara 'accuses' him of flirting.

Teun calls in the help of Charmaine in order to find a the daughter of a deeply religious friend who is horrified to learn that she is now a prostitute. Later, Teun asks Charmaine to stop prostituting. Romano deals with the owner of an aggressive dog which mauled a young girl after the man gathers a group of protesters to stop the dog from being put down. Evert discovers that a dead junkie is a famous American jazz musician. After his dancing partner, Iris, has sprained her ankle, Lucas continues practicing, now with Leona. Arend has Altan meet a prosecutor who is running an operation to catch Dogan; Altan agrees to participate and go undercover in exchange for Efe's immunity. The tension between Arend and Tara rises, and Arend visits his wife, who is in a mental hospital. A man who believes he is an angel jumps from a roof, and Sylvester and Tina come across a man running across the street, naked.

Arend and Altan illegally help a witness escape from gunmen after a Yugoslavian gangster is murdered. Romano and Tina chase a mad man on a horse, dressed as a Native American. Lucas deals with a Moroccan teenager who wants to commit suicide because he is gay. Sylvester is called to an acquaintance of Jeroen after people complain about loud music; it turns out to be an elderly woman who can no longer keep her mentally handicapped son under control. Anne van Druten, Evert's anti-racism therapist, is harassed by several Moroccan teens. By the end of the day, Altan meets with Dogan.

Altan witnesses Dogan bring in a large amount of drugs. Evert arrests Hafid, the Moroccan teenager who harassed Anne. Lawyer Prem appears surprisingly fast, and Hafid accuses Evert of beating him. Things take a surprising turn when Hafid turns out to be Tara's nephew; Arend suspects she is protecting him. By the end of the day, a Molotov cocktail is thrown at Anne's house. Tina deals with a woman whose abusive husband has been declared innocent by a judge. Jeroen and Leona track down a man whose son has died of cardiac arrest. Lucas feels attracted to a man who comes to the police station to report that his suitcase has been stolen.

Jeroen is accused of severely injuring a young biker, forcing Arend to suspend him. Tara protests after Evert arrests Hafid, but finally gives in to the fact that Hafid is a criminal. A woman calls Teun, complaining of the horrible corpse-like smell in her neighbors' house. Teun is puzzled by the mysterious female resident of the stinking apartment, and her missing husband. Dogan showcases his latest drug smuggling method (using onions) to Altan, who is later horrified when Dogan shoots one of his girls in the head right in front of him. Tina and Romano find a crashed bus carrying a group of Chinese tourists and discover they ate cookies with sleeping pills mixed into them as a practical joke by a teenager. Iris comes into the police station again, demanding a favor of Lucas.

While separating a group of fighting white supremacists and Moroccans, Romano is shot by a young white supremacist. Helga deals with his distraught mother and also has a crisis of her own- after a fight with her husband Taco, he has accused her of spousal abuse despite falling down the stairs himself. Sylvester uses his Lonsdale history to his advantage and goes undercover to find Romano's shooter, bringing up memories from his past. After the boy is caught Lucas tries to track down the boy's father. Laagveld dismisses the death of prostitute Susan as 'collateral damage'; Altan later discovers that a large amount of Dogan's drugs has been stolen from Efe, who was trying to make a deal behind Dogan's back.

Altan and Evert investigate the murder on a young Moroccan near a mosque, and are puzzled when a woman in a bhurka comes to them claiming she murdered him because he was an apostate. Lucas and Leona investigate the theft of several Hummers, and call in the help of Hummer fan and expert Sylvester. Teun's secret visiting of Charmaine is revealed to Helga when he calls in her help in separating a man and a woman who called the police after getting stuck whilst having sex. Dogan promptly gives Altan the pistol which was used to murder Theo, confusing him. Later he invites Altan to a nocturnal gang meeting. Jeroen and Tina deal with a German man who stalks a family looking for a baby; it turns out he is the biological father and the baby was supposed to have been sold to him and his infertile wife. Arend pulls a daring prank on a colleague.

Tina and Leona are puzzled by an illegal Chinese immigrant who claims to have lost her daughter. Leona thinks she is delusional or lying, but headstrong Tina feels otherwise. Evert and Lucas deal with a woman whose heartless husband died of a stomach ulcer. Romano tries to help a friend whose buddy tricked him into buying equipment for money laundering which didn't work, and discovers that the boy's mother hates him. Teun and Helga ask the help of foul-mouthed Jules in removing a poop-throwing and peeing homeless bum, David, from a public library. The plan works, but the man then recruits Jules to continue his mischief elsewhere. Efe decides to reclaim the drugs that were stolen from him earlier; Altan accompanies him and kills all three dealers when they attack Efe.

Dogan finds out about Altan's treachery, putting Altan and Efe's lives at risk. Arend doesn't trust Laagveld. Romano deals with Mr. Horstman and his Moroccan neighbor, whose fight resulted in a major riot several months ago, again when the neighbor's autistic daughter is nowhere to be found. Helga, Tina and Jeroen deal with a family living in their van after being unable to pay their house rent; Jules makes a shocking discovery about the father. Teun wants to stop Charmaine from marrying one of her clients, a Russian gangster, and shows up at their wedding with a Bible. Iris's mother has found out she is pregnant and Iris wants Lucas to meet her. An elderly woman with heart problems doesn't answer her doorbell has a surprise in store for Sylvester.
