The Ancient

3 reviews
5/10

OK horror movie

The Ancient tells the story of a small town sheriff and a scientist investigating a series of deaths after an Indian witch doctor is released from his tomb. There are some decent gore scenes and beheadings and even a very well done CGI comet in the climax. No real scares here but the acting was pretty decent for a movie with no budget.

The movie was shot on DV in 3 days by several different directors as part of an experimental shoot. The actors and crew were all volunteer, but they obviously worked hard to get the movie shot in a small amount of time and should be commended for their accomplishment. Although most of the night scenes were dark and the action was choppy the movie still had a discernible flow to it. It played better than some of the DTV stuff I've rented in the past and even had some nice eye candy in a few scenes. The bathroom scene with the two lesbians was very fun.

It was a nice try to bring something new to independent movies. I'm not real sure what happened at the end of the movie and it leaves a lot to be desired but it is worth the price of a rental.

..." The men are Ugly,The Women are Pretty...There We said IT !"

THE ANCIENT www.americanmovieworks.com (To order a copy) Directed by Richard McClure +, EFX by Richard Stallsmith Starring Fred Rosenberg , Andrew Rausch and April Wade. …At first I thought Charles E. Sellier and Sunn-Classic Films was back in business.

This film has a feel of IN SEARCH OF: The Manitou ?,Sometimes …Very newsreel/fake documentary footage.

The movie works on a lot of levels,There is gore and nudity and actors that seem real.

All the guys are ugly,All the women pretty …there we said it. The Zombies and Indian Monster were very interesting to combine and actually was a success in horror. The downsides,a few- Needs new poster,Blur all the un-authorized t-shirts and blur that damn constant beer company. This is seamless,With so many credits it flows still,Music was perfect…had a locale look could not get in California. So,Figure out the fixes and lets get it to the audience,We know it would have.

I saw this movie at Texas Frightmare Weekend, and I want that 2 hours of my life back!!!

Okay, I'm a huge fan of indie movies, not just horror but ALL indie movies. I will give anything independent a chance being that half the time, independents crank out better movies than the studios. With THE ANCIENT, this is definitely not the case.

I honestly don't know where to begin with this crap fest, so I'll just stick with the technical aspects of it. The acting,....was not there. There was no acting. It's like they just got a bunch of people on camera and said, "Okay, now talk." If those people in fact WERE acting, they should be killed and burned at the stake. The camera work, yet again, wasn't there. It was some jerk with a camera just pointing it at things. THere was NO cinematography there. THe fact that it was shot on DV didn't bother me, I am a huge fan of the digital revolution, but this was like watching someones home movie in which they just filmed someone screwing around with fake blood. Oh yeah, and the FX were ridiculous. Another thing that was god awful was the editing. Those were the roughest cuts I've seen since Chuck Liddel kicked the crap out of Tito Ortiz. Oh, and the sound editing, was not there. Noticing a pattern here?? It's like all they did was put some crappy movie over it and called it sound editing. To sum it up, this movie was made by people who wouldn't know how to make a REAL movie if it slapped them in the face. They should stop, seriously. The person who wrote the positive review before this one HAD to be either one of the cast, crew, or friend of the cast or crew. Those are the only people who could actually enjoy this crap. When I saw it at TFW, i didn't see ANYBODY who could make it all the way through this terrible movie. It should be avoided like the plague.
