These days pretty much every 'ghost' documentary is largely fake, lots of. Bangs, screams and voices saying "get out" etc, but once upon a time, in the 80s and 90s we actually had documentaries that attempted to seriously, objectively, explore the subject. That doesn't mean no witness ever lies or exaggerates, but the producers, directors and narrators were in most cases trying to do the job properly, irrespective of whether it made for 'exciting' television, leaving the viewer to make up their own mind.
Discovery's 1996-97 Ghosthunters was one of those, and as such very worth a watch, though I doubt there's enough action for fans of more recent ghost shows. Some episodes are definitely better than others, but overall I'd give it the thumbs up.
