Avinash Wadhawan met writer Kamleshwar while he was shooting for his serial Akash Ganga. Impressed with his looks,he signed him for Chandrakanta along with Dilip Dhawan and Anuradha Patel. The serial got postponed. It was during this phase he became a model for Vimal shirting's. This was when he became very popular and was signed by the producers of Pyar Ho Gaya. He was offered the TV serial Buniyad but he turned it down as he wanted to work in films as a hero.
