When the 22nd Marine Expeditionary Unit is called in to rescue the embassy inhabitants AH-1 Cobras and IAR 330s (Romanian variant of SA 330 Puma; not in US service) take off from an air base, later on only the AH-1 Cobras are shown in mid-air flight over desert environment (no deserts in the Balkans). Next time the helicopters are shown they depict UH-60 Black Hawks without stub wings and UH-1 Iroquois. During the final showdown computer-generated MH-60L DAP or UH-60 with stub wings and rocket pods are shown. The IAR 330s do return as they deploy US Marines on the roof of the embassy.
The Marine Corps Corporal escort driving the Commander shows a "SEAL Team" I.D. card at the airport, SEAL team members are Navy personnel not Marine Corps.
The film names its setting as Moldavia, which not presently a country. It used to include what is now Moldova until the early 19th century. Previous claims of error conflating the two are based on an erroneous assumption.
When Commander Keenan arrives at the main gate of the embassy, the two Marine guards render hand salutes despite having rifles. The correct procedure would be to render a rifle salute by coming to the position of present arms.
Marine Helicopters take off from Fort Victory, Sbelnska, Croatia. There is no such place in Croatia. However, it would be fair to assume that this location is intentionally fictional.
Commander Keenan's rank insignia is incorrect. The U.S. Navy gold lace rank insignia on the dress blue uniform encircles the entire cuff. Keenan's uniform in the movie has the insignia only on the outer portion.
The action is placed in Moldova, but it was filmed in Bucharest, Romania. It is easily to see auto numbers on ordinary cars which are from Bucharest, not from Chisinau, the capital of Moldova. Not even one car has Moldavian numbers. Another goof is people's accent. None of them has Moldavian accent, which, for a native Romanian, is as obvious as one can distinguish between a penguin and a seagull.
The Moldavian army is said to be in the mountains, some 5 hours away from the capital. Moldavia has no mountains, the highest point being the Balanesti Hill at 430 m (1.410 ft)
