A Velha a Fiar

This humored experience by veteran filmmaker Humberto Mauro ("O Descobrimento do Brasil", "Ganga Bruta") is considered by many viewers as one of the earliest music videos ever conceived, and in Brazil it might have been the very first. It is incredibly well made, funny and smart.

It's idea is pretty simple: the title song is played out telling the story of a food chain and other events where animals, people and nature elements collapse at each other as an old woman keeps on using her spin machine making some clothes. For humor purposes the old lady is played by a man (Mateus Colaço).

While she does her work, a fly, a spider, a mouse, a cat, a dog, a cow, a man, a woman and nature elements or objects keep interrupting each other's act in the song. Those are present through images but they don't necessarily act agaisnt each other, it's up to viewers to keep following the stream of events and characters involved and the song keeps going on an endless crazed way which makes things very hysterical.

One of the greatest short films I've ever seen, and a valuable tool to be shown at schools or to make children learn about things since the whole presentation is very effective and carefully made. It's hard not to resist to the lenghty and repetitive folk song. 10/10.
