Well, i am what you would call a hardcore fan of the television show and did enjoy the first game "Battlecry".
This game was departure from the cell style animation they used to render the vehicles and the people.
This is story of the Invid Invasion, which is referred to as the "New Generation" saga. Returning Robotech forces, return after 20 year deep-space mission to secure the planet from further invasion. Mistake one, they failed.
The game is based around the usage of the emergency back vehicle, referred in the series as Cyclon Rider. Which is a motorcycle that converts around the rider into battle armor. Which is in fact pretty nifty thing, but this was done with CGI and not didn't come out as well the creators had hoped. Not doing the cell style animation like previous game was first mistake, making it a first shooter limiting you to the usage of the motorcycle. Was another "mistake" in my point of view. It lack flexibility of being able to enjoy all the aspect that this particular segment of the Robotech Universe had to offer.
It was render with big maps, but your stuck going through the game's sequence of events. The story is very well thought out, but maybe confusing for new people to the Robotech genre.
If they manage to find the game good enough to try again, i hope they learn from lessons of this game and listen to the fans next time they do something like this!
