After Dark Films has just recently announced that one of the horror films, Husk, from their After Dark Originals lineup (which just played in theaters this past week) is making its TV debut on the Syfy channel. "Husk" stars Devon Graye, Wes Chatham, C.J. Thomason, Tammin Sursok and Ben Easter. The film is written and directed by Brett Simmons.
Husk, from After Dark Films, airs on the Syfy channel on Saturday February 5 at 9Pm with an encore showing at 1Am. In Husk, a murder of crows smashes into the windshield of five friends causing their car to crash. The group of young friends, inside, are forced to abandon the vehicle. Stranded beside a desolate cornfield, they see a light on in a window and decide to go in search of help. They head into the fields, but instead of finding sanctuary they discover something evil and unnatural lurking in the corn.

The scarecrow themed horror feature Husk recently had a limited theatrical release through After Dark Films (Jan. 28th). Now, Husk will have a second premiere and this time the feature will be hosted on the SyFy network. Also showing left is the DVD artwork for this feature, which asks fans to "join the harvest." Crows sit ominously nearby, as a faceless scarecrow promises future chills. Hopefully, a review of this title is coming soon, as this picture and Re-Kill seem to be the standouts of the After Dark Originals.
The synopsis for Husk is here:

Title: Husk Director: Brett Simmons Starring: Devon Graye, Wes Chatham and C.J. Thomason Routinely overlooked by critics and award shows, horror movies have been showcased and honored over the past five years with production company After Dark Films annual film festival Horrorfest. Brett Simmons is one of the latest screenwriter-directors hoping to make a name for himself in the horror genre with his new supernatural thriller ‘Husk,’ which is one of the entries in this year’s festival. While aiming to stay away from making a purely slasher movie, and instead focusing on what people would do if a scarecrow suddenly came to life to take control of their bodies, Simmons’ final outcome unfortunately [...]...

More After Dark Originals love with Husk director Brett Simmons, who was kind enough to talk us up about his wicked scarecrow flick. Having already shown his original short at Sundance, the director tells us about turning his corn-stalking scare-show into a feature film.
Chris Haberman: Where were you filming and how did the shoot go? Any fun set stories?
Brett Simmons: We shot in Ames, Iowa, outside of Des Moines. We shot for three weeks, 18 actual days. It was a lot of fun, but pretty intense because shooting in cornfields is challenging. There isn't any space for anyone or anything to work because the stalks are so tall and thick. We had to get pretty creative with how we operated in there. Also, we had a ton of weather issues. A normally sunny, blue sky state was suddenly stormy and rainy for the three weeks we shot, so...

In cooperation with Syfy and Lionsgate, on January 28th After Dark Films is releasing eight "After Dark Originals" in theaters, in a bid to take the "horror festival concept to a higher level". Instead of acquiring the films after the fact, as with "8 Films to Die For", these Originals were developed from the ground up at the famed genre distributor in an effort to create "high quality horror films" with full input from the After Dark team. Now, in anticipation of their release, B-d reporter Chris Eggertsen put eight questions to the directors of each of the upcoming films, in a series we're calling "8 Questions to Die For: Interviews with the Directors of the After Dark Originals". In this third installment we interviewed Husk writer/director Brett Simmons, who helmed the short of the same name that debuted at Sundance in 2005.

Finally!! After Dark Films has finally unleashed a trailer that showcases all 8 of their horror films in the After Dark Originals lineup.
After Dark Films made an unprecedented commitment to the production of eight original horror films this year under the After Dark Originals label, continuing the Company’s mantra of supporting first time independent film writers and directors. The creation of the Ad Originals(http://www.afterdarkoriginals.com/) slate is just another example of the Company’s commitment to the Indie film industry.
Unlike After Dark’s “8 Films To Die For®”, After Dark Originals are wholly financed and produced by After Dark Films. The Ado slate runs the gamut of the genre, from paranormal phenomena, black magic, and vengeful ghosts to psychological trauma, murderous psychopaths, vampires and the undead. After Dark polled its fans and is delivering the kinds of movies they asked for!

The After Dark Horrorfests are … interesting. Especially if you’re one of those horror movie freaks who just has to see your horror movies on the big screen. In my experience, the 8 films that usually make up a “Horrorfest” are shockingly hit and miss affairs. When they’re good, they’re really good, and remind you why indie horror is so awesome compared to the manufactured garbage of a Hollywood studio production. But when they’re bad? Man, they stink up the joint. Anyways, for those interested in attending another Horrorfest this year, the 2011 slate of After Dark films will feature 8 titles as usual, and they’ll be landing in theaters around the country January 28, 2011. Check out a preview of all 8 titles below. To find out if After Dark is coming to your town, head over here to see a complete listing of current and future showings. ———*———- Husk Writer...

So, a new trailer for a new Scarecrow-horror movie called Husk is up and about. It's kind of just like every other Scarecrow-horror movie you've ever seen, but maybe not as good as Dark Night of the Scarecrow.
Because No scarecrow horror movie can ever beat Dark Night of the Scarecrow.
Husk seems to have atmosphere and some recognizable actors (you know, it has That Hot Guy from Harper's Island) and isn't absolutely vile at first glance. It certainly looks better than, say, Scarecrow, Scarecrows, Night of the Scarecrow, Hallowed Ground, or Revenge of the Scarecrow.
I'm just kind of disappointed because, well, I've seen like 90 scarecrow-horror films, and none of them are that good, and here is After Dark pretending this is some kind of original idea.
We know it's not, After Dark. I've also seen That Shot of the isolated country house - what? - 200 times in the...

Generally speaking, the After Dark series of horror efforts hasn’t impressed me much over the years, though I find myself indulging in their wonky offerings time and time again. The latest batch of fright flicks bearing the familiar logo is looming on the horizon, and Bloody Disgusting was fortunate enough to get their nasty little hands on a trailer for Brett Simmons’ “Husk”. Naturally, the story is nothing to write to your impossibly elderly grandmother about — teenagers battle blood-thirsty scarecrows on a seemingly abandoned farm in the middle of absolutely nowhere — but I’m always down for a little scarecrow-related carnage. Whether or not Simmons and company can top the unintentional goofiness found in David Michael Latt’s “Scarecrow Slayer” remains to be seen. After all, that is a tough mission to accomplish by anyone’s standards. “Husk” stars Wes Chatham, C.J. Thomason, and Devon Graye. Expect the film...

Among the eight films debuting in theaters January 28 from After Dark Originals , one is going to take another stab at the scarecrow sub-genre. Hear that groan? It's the sound of horror fans collectively reflecting on dour scarecrow fare like 1995's Night of the Scarecrow or 2004's Scarecrow Gone Wild . Granted, fans have had to take the good ( Dark Night of the Scarecrow ) with the bad ( Messengers 2: The Scarecrow ), and Brett Simmons, the director of the upcoming Husk , is well aware of this. With his film, he hopes to remove the stigma usually afflicting scarecrow-themed horror stories. Simmons film began as a short that played to Sundance audiences. When After Dark came a-callin', he was given a chance to expand the Husk 's story and attach Wes Chatham, Devon Graye...

Horror fans can rejoice this week as a slew of horror films that were submitted to the MPAA all got an R rating from the MPAA. No battles over an Nc-17 rating and this batch of films is clearly not meant for the PG-13 crowd either. Husk is rated R for horror violence and language. Stag Night (aka Stag Night of the Dead) is rated R for strong bloody violence, language and brief sexual content. The Trap Door is rated R for language, violent grisly images and brief sexuality.

The actual convention floor of Comic-Con International has become famous — and notorious — for the massive, bombastic booths of Hollywood entertainment companies promoting their upcoming product. Especially these days with ever-increasing-in-size flat-screen TVs and more sophisticated and apparently increasingly bass-heavy audio equipment, walking the floor it’s impossible to not be assaulted by 50 movie trailers, full-length TV shows and other promotional videos playing all at once.
However, at the 2010 Comic-Con, my favorite spot on the convention floor — one I returned to two or three times — was the somewhat unassuming booth for After Dark Films, which hosts the annual, one-week-only, national horror movie film festival called Horrorfest. In addition to an open-air portion of the booth that included promotional giveaways and costumed horror characters, there was a separate room one could walk into to watch trailers for their 2011 films.
