Author Stephen Graham Jones started his Indian Lake Trilogy with the novel My Heart Is a Chainsaw, which has an audiobook version that was read by Cara Gee, who may be best known for her work on the TV shows Strange Empire and The Expanse. The second novel in the series was Don’t Fear the Reaper, and the audiobook for that one had a full cast that included Isabella Star Lablanc (Pet Sematary: Bloodlines) and Jane Levy (Evil Dead 2013). The Indian Lake Trilogy is set to wrap up with The Angel of Indian Lake, which will be published on March 26th – and our friends at Bloody Disgusting have learned that the audiobook for this one is also going to have a full cast, with one of the cast members being the legendary Stephen King! Pre-orders can be made at This Link.

Fans of Stephen Graham Jones‘ Indian Lake Trilogy will have something special with the upcoming final instalment’s audiobook. Set to be released on March 26, Simon & Schuster Audio has announced that The Angel of Indian Lake will have the legendary Stephen King as a featured voice.
King joins Jones himself for the audiobook, alongside Isabella Star Lablanc (Pet Sematary: Bloodlines), Barbara Crampton, Angela Goethals (Behind the Mask: The Rise of Leslie Vernon), and Andrew J. Robinson (Hellraiser).
The final instalment in the Indian Lake Trilogy, The Angel of Indian Lake picks up four years after the series’ second instalment, Don’t Fear the Reaper.
After “taking the fall” by protecting her friend Letha and her family from incrimination, and spending the past four years in prison, Jade Daniels returns to her hometown of Proofrock, Idaho. Since then, her reputation, and the town, have changed dramatically.

In A Violent Nature might be Canadian writer and director Chris Nash’s feature debut, but he’s hardly an untested rookie (and it shows). His ABCs of Death 2 segment “Z is for Zygote” teases his knack for producing practical effects and what to expect by the bucket full in his subversive Sundance slasher. Nash’s experience in effects departments, like serving as On-Set Creature Effects Supervisor for Psycho Goreman, translates into a slasher experience that stands pound-for-pound with modern masterclasses of mutilation like the Terrifier series. In A Violent Nature is one of the bloodiest, most punishing, and refreshingly original slashers in some time, but its unique approach will divide horror audiences — that’s the looming risk that comes along with shoot-for-the-moon ambitions.

The magic of cinema. The lights dim, the screen illuminates, and we’re transported to another world. But what happens when that world contains… another world? Horror has long been a genre that loves to play with its audience, and nothing says “I see you” quite like a movie-within-a-movie. It’s like a Russian doll of terror, layers of scares unfolding one after another… and who doesn’t love a good nesting nightmare?
Let’s dive into the meta-madness of horror films that give us a double dose of dread, with the movie-within-a-movie trope!
Universal 10. Halloween III: Season of the Witch (1982) Movie-Within-a-Movie: Halloween (1978)
Dr. Daniel Challis (Tom Atkins) stumbles upon a sinister plot by the Silver Shamrock mask company to harness Stonehenge’s mystical powers and harm children on Halloween night. Amidst this chaos, a TV commercial advertises the original Halloween movie, suggesting a universe where Michael Myers’ terror is mere fiction.

Kaleidoscope Home Entertainment is thrilled to be releasing Hollywood Dreams & Nightmares: The Robert Englund Story. The film will premiere exclusively on the Icon Film Channel from 2nd October 2023, with Special Collector’s Edition Blu-ray and Tvod/Est available from 6th November 2023. From the makers of Pennywise: The Story of It and the widely-anticipated movie RoboDoc: The Creation of RoboCop comes an all-new documentary, celebrating the legacy and career of one our generation’s most beloved horror icons, the legendary Robert Englund. Shooting to super-stardom with his revolutionary portrayal of Freddy Krueger in the ‘Nightmare On Elm Street’ franchise – a moment without doubt as visceral to the horror genre as Chaney’s werewolf or Karloff’s ground-breaking realisation of Frankenstein’s monster – Englund has firmly earned his place in the pantheon of horror movie legends. The documentary features a host of horror icons including Robert Englund himself, as well as...

Horror movies have a knack for making us jump out of our seats, but what happens when they become self-aware? Enter the world of meta-horror, where the lines between fiction and reality blur, and the characters might just be more in the know than you are. These films don’t just break the fourth wall; they smash it with an axe. Here’s a list of ten meta-horrors that will have you questioning every horror trope you thought you knew.
Magnolia Pictures 10. Rubber (2010)
Ever wondered if a tire could be the central character of a horror film? Look no further than Rubber. This film follows Robert, a sentient tire with telepathic abilities, as he goes on a murderous rampage. But here’s the twist: there’s an audience within the movie watching Robert’s antics through binoculars. It’s a bizarre, hilarious take on the genre that pokes fun at horror clichés.

The episode of Revisited covering Hatchet was Written by Emilie Black, Narrated by Niki Minter, Edited by Kier Gomes, Produced by Tyler Nichols and John Fallon, and Executive Produced by Berge Garabedian.
By the start of the 2000s, there were so many slasher films out there that it was difficult to figure which ones were worth the time and which were not, something that hasn’t changed much since then. However, the mid-2000s saw a few fun surprise slasher films make their way onto screens including films like Behind the Mask: The Rise of Leslie Vernon and today’s film of interest, Hatchet (watch it Here). Coming from a writer-director who knows the genre and has tremendous respect for it, Hatchet was one of those films most of the public didn’t see coming, one that was a bit out of left field if you didn’t pay attention...

A lot of fans have been anxiously waiting for more films set in the world of the 2006 meta slasher Behind the Mask: The Rise of Leslie Vernon (watch it Here) ever since that movie was release. The follow-up Before the Mask: The Return of Leslie Vernon still hasn’t managed to make it into production – but David J. Stieve, who wrote Behind the Mask with Scott Glosserman (and also wrote the Before the Mask script years ago) has made a short film called Wait for It, which is said to be set in the world of Leslie Vernon. That short film is now making the festival rounds and has been screened at a handful of festivals so far, with more festival screenings coming up this fall.

Talking Heads’ “Psycho Killer” is one of the band’s most famous classic rock songs. Selena Gomez’s “Bad Liar” reuses the bassline of the song. Subsequently, Talking Heads’ David Byrne revealed what he thought about Gomez’s track.
Why Talking Heads’ David Byrne was alright with Selena Gomez sampling ‘Psycho Killer’
During a 2018 interview with Rolling Stone, Byrne was asked if he was upset with Gomez for decontextualizing “Psycho Killer.” “No, no, not at all,” he responded. “I mean, I would have an issue if somebody took, say, ‘This Must Be the Place,’ which is a very personal love song — if somebody repurposed that and made it into some kind of horrible violent thing, I would probably say, ‘No, you do not have permission to do this.’
“Other than that, yeah, repurpose the stuff,” he added. “That’s totally fine. And, you know, we get paid for it too.

Now meet Leslie Vernon, the next great psycho-slasher. Plot: Throughout his career, Englund starred in many well-known movies, but shot to super-stardom with his portrayal of supernatural serial killer Freddy Krueger in the Nightmare On Elm Street franchise. This unique and intimate portrait captures the man behind the glove and features interviews with Englund and his wife Nancy, Lin Shaye, Eli Roth, Tony Todd, Heather Langenkamp and more.
Review: I remember reading Robert Englund’s Autobiography when I was in college. It was a wonderful telling of Englund’s life and career and painted the picture of a humble thespian who just wants to perform. So I perked up when hearing they were creating a full-length documentary. Especially since Englund had lived a decade of life since the book had been released. To say that Englund is a god-like figure in the horror realm would be underselling it. He’s beloved by fans everywhere in a way that few actors manage to achieve.

Hollywood Dreams & Nightmares: The Robert Englund Story picks up with a 12-year-old Robert being sent to theatre camp getting attention from girls and being complimented by talk show host Steve Allen. That, especially the female attention, pointed him toward his career. And really, what better motivation can a young man have?
Best known for playing Freddy Krueger in the Nightmare on Elm Street franchise, Robert Englund already had a long history in the genre. dating back to Tobe Hooper’s Eaten Alive in 1976. Who could forget his entrance announcing “My name’s Buck, and I’m here to fuck!” and the criminally underrated Dead and Buried in 1981 as well as Galaxy of Terror and a host of others. And it’s continued well past his time as Freddy, most recently doing voice acting in the bizarre puppet film Abruptio.

With a title like that you kind of have to deliver as a horror movie. Happy Monday, everyone! Over the last few weeks of our Indie Horror Month celebration, we have had a pair of two-part video interviews from our Ihm: Revisited series queued up, but this week, we’re doing things a little differently, as we have a singular interview today featuring Behind the Mask: The Rise of Leslie Vernon’s co-writer and director Scott Glosserman. Then, we’ll be back on Wednesday and Friday for our next two-parter video featuring yet another beloved figurehead in independent horror.
During our discussion with Glosserman, he discussed how Behind the Mask initially came together and how he and co-writer David J. Stieve hoped to inject some life into the dormant slasher scene in the mid-2000s. Glosserman also chatted about how integral film veterans like Zelda Rubenstein and Angela Goethals as well as horror legend Robert Englund all were to the production of the film, and...

Hello, everyone! Throughout the month of April, I’m going to be offering up some streaming suggestions in support of our ongoing Indie Horror Month celebration, and today, we’re celebrating 13 different films that are currently streaming on Shudder. For this list, I tried to offer up some titles that have either been on the platform for a while now, so maybe they’ve gotten lost in the mix (since Shudder regularly updates their service with so much killer content), or they’ve generally just flown under the radar of most fans. So, while I absolutely adore movies like Host or Mandy, I felt like horror fans in general are already tuned in to those masterpieces, and I wanted to give a few other films a shot at glory here as well.
Check out this great array of films and be sure to check back here on Daily Dead every...

I don’t always have a reason to go back to older movies for review, but having just recently revisited this movie, I had to talk about it. Why? Well, because it’s phenomenal, but also because… well… not many people actually talk about it, and that’s a shame.
Behind the Mask: The Rise of Leslie Vernon is a 2006 film from director Scott Glosserman, and takes a different approach to the tried and tested and well trodden slasher genre. I recall seeing this flick back when it came out, and I loved it. Some 14 years later I was curious if it held up, and was over the moon that it did. It really did. The story follows a young documentary crew who follow Leslie Vernon,...

I don’t think it’s much of a secret that right now, there is a lot of uncertainty in the world, and I’m not sure how you’re feeling, but this writer could use a little levity in her life right about now. So, with that in mind, I decided to scour a bunch of the various streaming services out there—Vudu, Tubi TV, Amazon Prime, Shudder, Hulu, Netflix, Crackle and YouTube—to put together the ultimate list of “not so serious” horror and sci-fi movies (and one animated series!) that are currently available to watch from the comfort of your own home, as we hunker down and navigate these uncertain times.
Some of these services are free (usually with ads) and some are platforms that you need a subscription for, but with more than 70 different titles here that range from horror comedy to social satire to pitch-black...

Is your check in the mail, pal? You better hope so, because Fright-Rags' new apparel collections celebrate two movies that genre fans will want to add to their wardrobes: John Carpenter's Big Trouble in Little China and Scott Glosserman's Behind the Mask: The Rise of Leslie Vernon.
Press Release: A film doesn't need to be a box office hit to have an enduring legacy, as evidenced by genre favorites like Big Trouble in Little China and Behind the Mask: The Rise of Leslie Vernon. Fright-Rags has released new apparel from the pair of cult classics.
Ol' Jack Burton says to get to Fright-Rags for the Big Trouble in Little China collection, which features four new tees from the John Carpenter film, a replica of Kurt Russell's wardrobe tank top, and four enamel pins, including Lo Pan with light-up eyes.

With a gentle yet commanding screen presence, Scott Wilson endeared himself to countless fans of AMC's The Walking Dead over the years, and we're sad to share the news that the actor has passed away at the age of 76.
Multiple sources have shared the sad news of Wilson's passing, with People reporting that the actor passed away "due to complications from leukemia," according to his rep, Dominic Mancini.
For three seasons on AMC's The Walking Dead, Wilson played Hershel Greene, a beacon of humanity in a relentlessly harsh world. The father of Maggie and Beth, Hershel was a character who often reminded Rick and other survivors that empathy and compassion were top shelf emotions that should be cherished and practiced, even in the post-apocalyptic wastelands. Wilson instilled a warmth in Hershel that radiated through the screen. He also gave the series a crucial sense of humor that helped balance...

Having only just gotten into collecting Blu-rays within the last couple of years, I’ve become interested in the different ways some of these releases catch our attention as horror fans. Sometimes we get those movies that we’ve always loved and jump on immediately. Other times, we get the obscure films that might wind up being a hidden gem. And then there are those releases that remind us to revisit the movies we haven’t seen in years. Such was the case for me and the 2006 meta-slasher Behind the Mask: The Rise of Leslie Vernon. I remember seeing the movie within a year or so of its release, enjoying it, but never really feeling the need for a rewatch until Scream Factory announced their Collector’s Edition.

More often than not, a film won't get the acclaim that it should, even if it builds a fan base. Such is the case with Behind The Mask: The Rise Of Leslie Vernon. Like Scream in the sense that it's a meta film, Behind The Mask follows a student journalist team as they follow the boisterous serial killer Leslie Vernon (Nathan Baesel). Led by interviewer Taylor (Angela Goethals), the team tows the line of what's moral and lawful and what is aiding and abetting this killer. Their curiosity gets the best of them before the decide to try to help the teens that Vernon is stalking, but is it too late? Is Vernon the next "great" serial killer or monster in the vein of Freddy, Michael Myers, or Jason?...

If you let Behind The Mask: The Rise of Leslie Vernon somehow slip by you back when it released in 2006, then you made a big mistake. Scott Glosserman’s slasher-gem is simply one of the most genius re-incarnations of horror explanation in the past few decades, attacking conventional slasher horror norms through documentary-type exploits that give you an unprecedented look into the killer’s life – the planning, the preparation, the execution, it’s all here.
Even the smallest details are picked up and satirically dealt with, presenting dark entertainment that viewers gobbled up with glee 12 years ago. Not to mention the bloody brilliant third act that came after the jabs had been thrown and the background work established. Hell, I couldn’t get the Talking Heads’ Psycho Killer out of my head for weeks thanks to Glosserman’s film.

Shining a satirical ray of light on the horror genre is nothing new, as a number of films (both indie and mainstream) have done this for a few decades now, but only one (that I know of), Behind the Mask: The Rise of Leslie Vernon, states that in its own cinematic world, Jason Voorhees, Michael Myers, and Freddy Krueger actually existed. Don't believe me? Check out some Blu-ray clips from Scream Factory's Collector's Edition of Scott Glosserman's cult movie before it hits shelves on March 27th.

Behind the Mask: The Rise of Leslie Vernon fans (read our SXSW interview) know that co-writer/co-producer David J. While in Austin at the 2017 SXSW Film Festival, I had the opportunity to catch up with a variety of folks responsible for the modern cult classic Behind the Mask: The Rise of Leslie Vernon, which celebrated its 10th anniversary with several screenings as part of the fest’s midnight lineup. It was a busy year for me at the 2017 SXSW Film Festival, as I had the opportunity to watch 16 films (17, including the 10th anniversary screening of Behind the Mask: The Rise of Leslie Vernon). Here are my thoughts on the final three films that I had a chance to see while in Austin: Like Me, Game of Death, and The Honor Farm.
Like Me: I had absolutely no idea what to expect from first-time director Robert Mockler’s Like Me, but after seeing what he could do with his cautionary tale about the dangers of social media obsession, and how it can affect those unable to cope with the isolation it often leads to, I’m an instant fan of Mockler.
