Exclusive: 3Point0 Labs has signed Harlem-based actor, director and producer Emil Pinnock and his Unleashing Giants production banner.

The agreement includes Marquel Martin’s LA management firm advising Unleashing Giants on its work to help children at underserved schools with hands-on film production and festival programs. Unleashing Giants’ nonprofit arm, Genius In The Hood, has just secured a round of funding and will officially launch the first quarter of 2025.

Pinnock has worked in the film industry for two decades, acting in productions such as Reading Rainbow, Sixth Man, Beloved, Gridiron Gang starring Dwayne Johnson and NBC’s E-Ring. His original series Up North was acquired by Byron Allen’s Entertainment Studios after debuting at SeriesFest and winning best actor, director, drama and audience awards. He’s currently working on projects for Tradition Pictures with Kenan Thompson and is working up an original story for Fubu founder and Shark Tank investor Daymond John.

Oi there, listen up! Amazon Prime Video’s list of new releases for June 2024 includes another season of its biggest, bloodiest hit.

The Boys season 4 premieres its first three episodes on Thursday, June 13. Based on the trailers, The Boys is really leaning into the political side of its social satire with a presidential election underway and Homelander on trial for the small matter of killing a guy last season. The season will continue to air on Thursdays, culminating with the finale on July 18.

Amazon is really leaning into its sports offerings this month as well. Fans will get to watch the New York Yankees, the WNBA, and the Nwsl several times throughout June. That’s in addition to a couple of sports docs: Power of the Dream on June 18 and Federer: Twelve Final Days on June 20.

Jurnee Smollett (“Lovecraft Country”) has joined the cast of Apple TV+’s “Firebug,” in which she’ll star opposite Taron Egerton. Smollett will play Michelle, a “rising star detective.”

“Firebug,” loosely based on true events and inspired by a podcast of the same name, stars Egerton as an “enigmatic arson investigator.” The two characters pursue two serial arsonists. Egerton is also an exec producer on the Apple original series (from Apple Studios), from creator Dennis Lehane.

Lehane also developed and executive produces “Firebug,” which reps a reunion of the team behind Apple TV+’s “Black Bird.” Other exec producers include Richard Plepler (via Eden Productions), Dan Friedkin and Bradley Thomas (through Imperative Entertainment), and Kary Antholis.

It’s a new month, and Hulu subscribers are getting a slew of new movies and TV shows to enjoy.

June 1 is jam-packed with more than 30 titles that have landed on the streamer, including the seventh and final season of Ava DuVernay’s “Queen Sugar,” the Jack Nicholson-led film “Hoffa,” Sacha Baron Cohen’s “Borat” and the entire “Twilight” franchise.

Mixing in a little of the old with new come goodies from 2023, like “Flamin’ Hot,” which tells the story of Mexican migrant Richard Montanez who came up with the idea for Flamin’ Hot Cheetos while working as a janitor at Frito Lay. The film lands on Hulu June 9.

Ending June with a bang will the be second season of “The Bear,” (June 22), Season 20 of “The Bachelorette” (June 27) and the sixth and final season of “Grown-ish.”

Wrestler turned actor, Dwayne Douglas Johnson — aka, “The Rock” — is enjoying the best times of his acting career. The A-list Hollywood actor has had several spells of success which has made him one of the highest-paid actors in Hollywood and one of the very best in the craft. And it looks like his reign in the industry is here to stay, at least for a while more with the actor’s consistency in adding hit titles to an already formidable list of movies.

Following his successes with the “Jumanji” and the “Fast & Furious” franchises, Dwayne Johnson followed it up with back-to-back successes with Disney’s “Jungle Cruise,” Netflix’s “Red Notice” and the latest of all, “Black Adam” — currently at the top of the Box Office for three consecutive weeks — where he ventured into the superhero universe.

Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson is honoring Brendan Fraser’s return to the big screen.

Johnson credited former “Mummy Returns” co-star Fraser for helping launch his own film career after making history in the WWE. The “Black Adam” actor tweeted in support of Fraser after the standing ovation for the Venice Film Festival premiere of “The Whale,” starring Fraser as a 600-pound teacher, went viral.

“Man, this makes me so happy to see this beautiful ovation for Brendan,” Johnson wrote. “He supported me coming into his ‘Mummy Returns’ franchise for my first ever role, which kicked off my Hollywood career. Rooting for all your success, brother and congrats to my bud Darren Aronofsky. #TheWhale”

Fox Entertainment’s Tubi is upping its free-streaming game in Latin America, set to launch in five countries in the region later this month.

Tubi is set to launch its free, ad-supported streaming service in Costa Rica, Ecuador, El Salvador, Guatemala and Panama, joining its current offering in Mexico (where the AVOD platform debuted in 2020).

Tubi’s Spanish-language lineup in the region will feature movies including “The Green Hornet,” “Hellboy,” “The Social Network,” “American Psycho,” “Gridiron Gang,” “Snatch,” “Machete,” “Hook,” “The Other Guys,” “The House Bunny,” “The Legend of Zorro,” “Obsessed” and “La Bamba.” TV series to be available will include telenovela “Señorita Pólvora,” “L.A.’s Finest” and “Masters of Sex.”

Additionally, regionally produced TV series will soon be available on Tubi’s Latin America services, including Mexico’s “Bienvenida Realidad,” “Atrapada” and “El Sexo Débil,” as well as local versions of series such as “The Nanny,” “Bewitched” and “Married With Children.

“The Breakfast Club” and “Pineapple Express,” both classics within their own genres, will be leaving Hulu in July, along with a host of other films. If you want to relive Judd Nelson’s performance as delinquent John Bender or the antics of Seth Rogen and James Franco, don’t forget to catch up on these flicks before July 31.

If you haven’t already celebrated Meryl Streep’s birthday by watching one of her arguably best performances in “The Devil Wears Prada,” stream this fashion comedy before it leaves Hulu this month as well. Thankfully you’ll still be able to stream this thinly-veiled critique of Vogue’s Anna Wintour on Prime Video. That’s all.

Mary Mara, the actor best known for her recurring roles in “ER” and “Law & Order,” died in Cape Vincent, N.Y. Sunday from an apparent drowning. She was 61.

In a report published Monday, the New York State Police confirmed that Mara was discovered in the St. Lawrence River in Cape Vincent around 8:10 p.m. on Sunday by various officers. According to a statement from a representative, Mara was staying at the summer home of her sister Martha. A preliminary investigation suggested Mara died by drowning while swimming. Her body has been transported to Jefferson County Medical Examiner’s Office, where an autopsy will be performed to determine an official cause of death.

In a statement to Variety, Mara’s manager Craig Dorfman confirmed her death.

“Mary was one of the finest actresses I ever met,” Dorfman wrote. “I still remember seeing her onstage in 1992 in ‘Mad Forest’ off Broadway.

This June on HBO and HBO Max will play host to a new season of “Westworld,” a new adaptation of “Father of the Bride” and much more.

The big new Warner Bros. release on HBO and HBO Max this month is “Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore,” which actually debuted on the HBO Max streaming service on May 30. The third film in the Wizarding World prequel franchise first hit theaters in April, and is now available to stream in 4K.

There’s also the updated version of “Father of the Bride” premiering on June 16, while a pair of noteworthy documentaries are coming on the early side this month: “The Janes” premieres June 8 and follows unlikely outlaws in pre-Roe v. Wade America who defied state legislation that banned abortion, while “Roadrunner: A Film About Anthony Bourdain” debuts on June 9.

Summer is about to finally, blessedly be in full swing. And to honor the occasion, Hulu is showing up big with its list of new releases for June 2022.

Hulu is bringing two major TV titles to its stream this month. The first is The Orville: New Horizons on June 2. Seth MacFarlane’s sci-fi/comedy started as a simple Star Trek parody on Fox before blossoming into its own entirely sincere space adventuring beast. Now “New Horizons” promises to be a fresh start for the series on Hulu. Next up is Only Murders in the Building season 2 on June 28. Season 1 of this Steve Martin, Martin Short, and Selena Gomez-starring series was a big hit. Let’s see if our favorite podcasters can pull it off once again.

Not content to let Netflix’s Stranger Things or Prime Video’s The Boys to dominate the summer TV landscape, HBO is coming through with a new season of one of its big hits. Westworld season 4 is set to premiere June 26 on both HBO and HBO Max. What will this season of the increasingly confusing sci-fi drama be about? Per HBO’s synopsis it will be “A dark odyssey about the fate of sentient life on earth.” So you know, only that.

Timmy Brown, a three-time Pro Bowl running back for the Philadelphia Eagles in the 1960s and later a Hollywood actor, has died from dementia complications, the team announced. He was 82 and was living in Southern California with his son at the time of his death.

“He was such a kind, warm person,” said his son, Sean Brown, to the Philadelphia Inquirer. “He was a really good man … there was no facade, no fakeness. He had a very tough childhood, so he made sure that I had a very happy, very good one.”

Today is March 1st, which means we have a whole new set of titles to tell you about that just dropped on Netflix. The streaming service has 54 new movies/TV shows from nearly every major studio, including Warner Bros., Paramount and Sony, and while that number is still ten less than what we got last March, there’s far more original content on the service than there was a year ago. So, trust me when I say you’ve got plenty of options.

So many options, in fact, that I often find myself browsing for so long that I can’t decide on what to watch until it gets too late and I go to bed instead. First world problems, right?

In any case, below you’ll find the full list as well as a few descriptions of some personal favorites. Or some that I just felt like commenting on.

Hulu is out with its list of everything new coming and going in March, and the new additions include the three-episode series premiere of “Little Fires Everywhere” starring Kerry Washington and Reese Witherspoon, and the premiere of the Hillary Clinton documentary “Hillary.”

Those two shows premiere March 18 and March 6, respectively. Other highlights include “Into the Dark: Crawlers,” about body-switching aliens and also out on March 6; the complete second season of “Love Island: Australia” coming March 13, and the two-episode series premiere of “Devs” starring Nick Offerman on March 6.

Movies leaving the site on March 31 include “When Harry Met Sally…,” “Precious” and “Big Fish.”

March sees the beginning of one of TV's more interesting experiment in 2020. Hulu's new releases for March 2020 are highlighted by the launch of the torturously-named "FX on Hulu" in which certain FX shows will premiere exclusively on Hulu.

Yes, when Disney set out up the entertainment industry, it gained more brands than it knew what to do with. And that's how you get stuff like FX on Hulu. The 2020 Film Independent Spirit Awards is set to honor the best in independent cinema, from Oscar contenders like Noah Baumbach’s “Marriage Story” to beloved indie darlings such as Lulu Wang’s “The Farewell,” the Safdie brothers’ “Uncut Gems,” Robert Eggers’ “The Lighthouse,” and Joe Talbot’s “The Last Black Man in San Francisco.” A24 leads all studios at the Indie Spirit Awards this year with 18 nominations, which differs from tomorrow’s Academy Awards where Netflix is the most-nominated studio. The Spirit Awards have become known over the last decade for showcasing nominees that are a mix of underdog films and higher-profile awards contenders, and the 2020 ceremony will be no exception. The Spirit Awards are a welcome opportunity for great films overlooked by the Oscars to have a moment in the awards season spotlight.

Hulu is kicking off the new year with a mix of new and old movies and TV shows that will be added to the streaming service in January.

Reality series including “The Bachelor,” “Project Runway” will release this month, along with “Cooks vs. Cons” and “Cutthroat: Kitchen.”

On the film front, “13 Going on 30,” “Eyes Wide Shut,” “Forrest Gump” and “Little Miss Sunshine” are arriving early in January.

Several children’s classics will be added on the platform as well. “Dennis the Menace,” which stars a young Mason Gamble as a neighborhood hooligan, and the animated saga “An American Tail,” starring an adventurous mouse named Fievel, will be available to stream.

Hulu is out with its list of everything new coming in January, as well as everything that’s leaving at the end of the month.

Highlights include the Season 24 premiere of “The Bachelor,” available the day after it airs first on ABC — so Jan. 7 for Hulu subscribers. Get ready to see Peter Weber in all his glory.

“Homeland” Seasons 6 and 7 will be available Jan. 10, following CIA officer Carrie Mathison (Claire Danes) and her mentor, Saul Berenson (Mandy Patinkin).

Rapper, actor and producer Alvin ‘Xzibit’ Joiner has launched production and management divisions at his music label Open Bar Entertainment and has signed with ICM Partners across the board.

Joining OBE is manager-producer Eric Skinner, who most recently was at Primary Wave Entertainment where he represented Xzibit. Skinner will head up film and television development as well as the company’s new management division with music industry veteran and company COO, Dontay Kidd.

Jurnee Smollett-Bell has been cast in one of the lead roles in the upcoming HBO drama series “Lovecraft Country,” Variety has learned.

The role reunites Smollett-Bell with Misha Green, the writer and executive producer of “Lovecraft Country.” Green was the co-creator and showrunner of the Wgn America series “Underground,” on which Smollett-Bell starred as escaped slave Rosalee.

“Lovecraft Country,” based on the book of the same name by Matt Ruff, follows 25-year-old Atticus Black, who joins up with his friend Letitia “Leti” Dandridge (Smollett-Bell) and his Uncle George to embark on a road trip across 1950s Jim Crow America to find his missing father. They must survive and overcome both the racist terrors of white America and the malevolent spirits that could be ripped from a Lovecraft paperback.

Letitia is described as having hustled her way across the country as an artist protesting for civil rights and now finds herself...

Netflix has confirmed that a slew of new original series will be debuting on the streaming service in March. There will also be new to Netflix seasons of some of your favorites from other networks. Likewise, there will be plenty of movies making their first Netflix appearances including the reboot of “Ghostbusters” and all the films in the “Cruel Intentions” franchise.

Of the new Netflix originals, several stand out as particularly binge-worthy, including the sophomore seasons of the Marvel series “Jessica Jones,” the Drew Barrymore laffer “Santa Clarita Diet,” and “A Series of Unfortunate Events.” And there are episodes of both the new David Letterman and Joel Hale talk shows as well as a comedy special from Ricky Gervais.

HBO TV series Lovecraft Country will take shape from names like Jordan Peele, J.J. Abrams and Misha Green.

Lovecraft Country is an intriguing TV project from Jordan Peele’s Monkeypaw Productions, which will team with J.J. Abrams’s Bad Robot and Misha Green, the creator of Underground, to adapt Matt Ruff’s novel of the same name for HBO. The project, which was just ordered to series, is also produced being by Warner Bros TV. The pilot will be written by Green, who serves as showrunner.

Lovecraft Country Cast

Deadline reports that Tony Goldwyn is set to guest star in Lovecraft Country. Goldwyn (who portrayed President Fitzgerald Grant on Scandal) will play Samuel Braithwhite, patriarch of his family, who views people as assets and objects. Sounds like a charmer!

Like most famous people, Dwayne Johnson’s Wikipedia page includes a nifty sidebar that includes bare bones facts, like birthday and age, with a couple of lines reserved for “occupation.” Johnson’s “occupation” line is almost amusingly slim — it simply reads, “Actor, producer, singer, professional wrestler,” which is an understated way of saying “this guy does a lot.” And it doesn’t even mention his best-selling memoir, or his charity work, and “professional wrestler” hardly indicates the tremendous success he’s had in the ring.

By the end of the 2000s, getting number one at the American box office was a valuable marketing commodity. As such, studios pumped more and more money into making sure they at least had a great opening weekend for their product.

The consequence of this was that it was harder and harder for smaller and quirkier films to take a brief spot in the sun. Certainly towards the second half of the decade, it seems that the number one movie each week was pre-ordinained in a marketing meeting somewhere.

The single biggest flaw within director Brett Ratner’s vision of Hercules is one that came from a self-conscious decision to create a Hercules story that is grounded in reality. While that is an interesting concept, the frustration comes from the fact that the movie was marketed as a fantasy inspired adventure where the titular character completes the Twelve Labors.
