The TV station UPN, which was responsible for broadcasting the series in the US television, claimed to cut the opening scene. But this scene was really important to Rob Thomas, inventor of this series, for emphasizing his intention to integrate elements from film noir into the series and also for getting a much smoother introduction to the main character Veronica and her job as a private investigator. The scene has been included again in the pilot episode for the American DVD release.
