When a miller bragged that his daughter Rosemarie could spin straw into gold, the King had them brought to his castle, demanding proof. Then a man appeared and offered to help the girl in exchange for her first child. She agreed. Straw became gold, and the King married Rosemary. When the child was born, the man reappeared and demanded that the promise be fulfilled. Rosemarie was given one last chance, if she could guess the man's name. A miller's boy helped her to find out the name was Rumpelstiltskin.
