The Farrelly brothers have had a long career both collaborating and helming projects individually. They’re coming together again for the holidays with the new Paramount+ film “Dear Santa,” a naughty but sweet Christmas confection starring Jack Black as Satan, who is accidentally summoned by a boy named Liam (Robert Timothy Smith) who can’t spell when writing a letter to Kris Kringle.
Peter and Bobby Farrelly spoke with Variety about their favorite Christmas movies, the power of underdog stories, and which of their movies would be worth revisiting.
Where did the idea for “Dear Santa” come from?
Peter: Pete Jones and Kevin Barnett, who we work with a lot, brought us the idea and they said, “A kid’s writing a letter to Santa, but he misspells it and instead writes it to Satan.” We’re like, “We’ll buy that. Ok, let’s do it.” It was like...

Samuel L. Jackson is in negotiations to star in the next movie from director J.J. Abrams.
If the deal closes, he’ll join a cast that includes Glen Powell, Jenna Ortega and “Sex Education” star Emma Mackey. Abrams is writing and directing the untitled feature, of which details have been kept under wraps. Bad Robot, the company founded by Abrams, will serve as a producer.
Warner Bros. is backing the film, which is expected to commence production in the United Kingdom this spring. It’s unclear when the movie is slated to hit theaters.
This new project is Abrams’ first directorial effort since 2019’s “Star Wars: Rise of Skywalker,” which culminated the nine-part saga to the tune of $1 billion at the global box office. Jackson, who portrayed Jedi Master Mace Windu in the “Star Wars” prequel trilogy, briefly worked with Abrams for a voice cameo for the climax of “Rise of Skywalker.

At the end of Cobra Kai Season 6 Part 1, it looked like there was just one major antagonist left for our heroes to deal with — assuming they could put their own differences aside to survive the Sekai Taikai, that is — with things finally coming to a head with John Kreese (Martin Kove). In Part 2, though, we quickly learn just how wrong that is. In Episode 8, “Snakes on a Plane,” Daniel learns that the “thug” who was sent to kidnap him wasn’t just a minion of Sensei Wolf (Lewis Tan) — he’s also a henchman of Terry Silver (Thomas Ian Griffith), who returns in a familiar scene: a steaming hottub, just like fans will remember him lounging in Karate Kid III. And that henchman has a familiar story as well. He’s Dennis de Guzman (portrayed by William Christopher Ford), one of Silver’s bullies who attacked Daniel Larusso (Ralph Macchio) at Mr.

The world of Stephen King adaptations runs the gamut across nearly every aspect of filmmaking. You have theatrically released ones and straight to video ones. It was November 2021, deep Covid time, and I had unmasked to have a drink with Kiki Benzon at The Surly Goat, a bar in West Hollywood. I hadn’t seen her in 30 years. In the early 1990s, Kiki and I had been rivals on the über-geeky North American private-school debate circuit; she attended school in British Columbia, I was from Connecticut, and we’d met as seniors at a tournament in Boston, then another in Winnipeg. After we got our stories on the table — my writing, my wife and children, her teaching (film studies at USC), her early recent widowhood — we got around to John Connery Heffernan III.
“Heff” was my high school classmate and debate partner and traveled with me to those long-ago tournaments; at one of them, he and Kiki spent a steamy night together. Kiki and I had both fallen out of touch with Heff, but knowing him,...

There are many ways to talk about Jared Padalecki's career. You could gauge his work by the length of his iconically-floppy hairdo, which sometimes got too long, worked pretty well for him in the aughts, and has somehow circled back around to being in style again. You could talk about him as the King of The CW, a network that has leaned on him as a star for more than two decades, going all the way back to when it was called "The WB." You could note that he hasn't done much on film, probably as a result of his never-ending television schedule, but you could also note that in the 2000s, he ruled a number of fun horror movies anyway.
On the other hand, you could talk about Jared Padalecki the way he does: as a man just trying to provide for his family. "I've been absent a lot.

Most of the single-location movies I have come across have aimed to thrill. Alfred Hitchcock’s Rope, Dial M for Murder, and Rear Window are some of the most beautifully crafted murder mysteries in existence. Sidney Lumet’s 12 Angry Men, Murder on the Orient Express, and Dog Day Afternoon are dripping with tension and drama. The Shining, The Thing, Misery, Krampus, and The Hateful Eight have expertly used a wintery landscape to generate suspense and horror. Snakes on a Plane, Train to Busan, and Greyhound have turned entire vehicles themselves into battlegrounds for survival. And the list just goes on. So, yes, it’s a little hard to find a single-location film that doesn’t get your heart pumping and your mind racing because being stuck in one place is terrifying. That said, Rocky Walls’ Dirty Laundry is a real change of pace. Is it any good? Let’s find out.

Samuel L. Jackson has had it with these motherf*ckin’ snakes on this motherf*ckin’ plane! It might be the single greatest movie line of the 21st century, but it almost didn’t happen. We all know how it came about: fans of Jackson’s had to hear him say “motherf*cker” at some point in Snakes on a Plane, but since it was a PG-13, that would be a no-go, lest it be bumped to an R. But it wasn’t just fans who demanded it: it was Jackson himself.
Samuel L. Jackson recently sat down with GQ to discuss some of his more iconic movies – and yes, Snakes on a Plane was featured in the same video as Pulp Fiction, Star Wars and his Marvel outings. On the topic of Snakes on a Plane, Jackson said he was strapped in and ready to defend the line. “They were...

Cinema has long been to thank for many a viral moment on social media, but one of the earliest examples was a now-famous quote uttered by screen legend Samuel L. Jackson in the 2006 action thriller, “Snakes on a Plane.” I’m speaking, of course, about when his character, exasperated FBI Agent Neville Flynn, said, “I have had it with these motherfucking snakes on this motherfucking plane.” In a career retrospective with GQ, Jackson shared how this iconic moment almost didn’t happen.
“They were trying to make a PG-13 movie, and you can only have one ‘fuck’ or some shit like that in [a PG-13 movie],” he said. “And I told them, ‘Look, I gotta say motherfucker in this movie. There’s motherfucking snakes all over this plane.’ They’re like, ‘Aw Sam, come on! No.’ I said, ‘Ok, fine.’ We wrap, they test the movie and test the movie. All of a sudden,...

Samuel L. Jackson finds it "crazy" how quickly he completed his nine-picture deal with Marvel. The 75-year-old actor first appeared as Nick Fury in 2008's 'Iron Man' and admitted he expected the long-term contract he'd signed would take years to fulfill, only for him to make his ninth appearance as the superspy just over a decade later in 2019's 'Captain Marvel'.He told GQ magazine: “I knew I had a nine-picture deal.“[Marvel Studios president] Kevin [Feige] said that, ‘We’re going to offer you a nine-picture deal.’ How long do you have to stay alive to make nine movies? "It’s not the quickest process in the world. I didn’t know they were going to make nine movies in like two and a half years."It’s just kind of crazy! Oh s***, I’m using up my contracts. It worked out.”Despite his original deal expiring,...

An MPAA rating almost deprived audiences of one of Samuel L. Jackson‘s most quoted lines.
As the Honorary Academy Award winner reflected on his wide-ranging career, he revealed that the studio behind Snakes on a Plane (2006) had to shell out “a bunch of money” on reshoots after initially filming the movie with substantially less F-bombs.
“They were trying to make a PG-13 movie, and you can only have one ‘f—’ or some s— like that in it,” he recalled to GQ. “And I told them, ‘Look, I gotta say motherf—er in this movie. There’s motherf—ing snakes all over this plane.’ They’re like, ‘Aw Sam, come on! No.’ I said ok fine, they were out.
“They test the movie and test the movie,” Jackson continued. “All of a sudden, we gotta do a reshoot. It cost them a bunch of money to get that ‘motherf—er.

A bee-nado is coming to 9-1-1, and if you need clarification on what that means, I implore you to jump onto Freevee and check out the Og Sharknado so you can get a sense of what you might be in for.
The Syfy cult classic was a mixture of about four genres that followed people plagued by tornados filled with sharks across Los Angeles. In other words, it was ridiculous and nonsensical and shouldn’t have been as entertaining as it was, yet it was a spectacle that launched a series of spinoffs.
If we take things literally, a bee-nado sounds like a tornado filled with bees, which is a bit different from the opening emergencies 9-1-1 is known for.
(Jack Zeman/Fox)
Earthquakes, tsunamis, and cruise ship disasters are what we’re used to. Large-scale catastrophes with massive set pieces make sense. But bees? Bees?

Ray Fisher ignites the screen as Lymon, the best friend of lead character Boy Willie Charles, played by John David Washington, in Netflix’s period drama “The Piano Lesson.” His portrayal has even sparked some early Oscar buzz.
Fisher’s last few years have been challenging following his public dispute with “Justice League” director Joss Whedon and former DC Films president Walter Hamada. But this project offers Fisher a chance to move forward.
“What helped this entire process is, I’ve got to give it up to August Wilson,” Fisher said during an interview at the Variety Studio, sponsored by J.Crew and SharkNinja, at the Toronto International Film Festival. “The juxtaposition that existed within the piece, within the character. I think there’s a little of Lymon Jackson in all of us. There’s an innocence about him in this piece that many lose as time passes, especially when you endure such hardship.

Survival thrillers are awesome. Be it the dark forests or the open seas, humans are the most vulnerable creatures out there, and it’s always thrilling to see them come to terms with the fact that they’re not exactly at the top of the food chain. The on-screen portrayal of this eternal battle between man and the wild has changed over the years. The birds that we see on the screen in The Birds were achieved via real birds, mechanical birds, and a ton of visual effects and special effects. Jaws used a mixture of stock footage and a shifty mechanical shark to inspire terror. Bart the Bear achieved iconic status with his appearance in The Edge. And with advancements in visual effects and CGI, we got realistic-looking predators in films like Snakes on a Plane, The Grey, The Revenant, The Shallows, Crawl, and Beast (the one with Idris Elba...

“Longlegs,” an occult-tinged horror mystery about an FBI agent on the trail of a serial killer, opened to a phenomenal $22.6 million, easily outgrossing “Fly Me to the Moon,” a $100 million dollar rom-com featuring two of Hollywood’s brightest stars.

When you go back and take a look at the movies that were released in 2006, you might think we were all high. I mean some of us were but regardless, everything was so over the top. Eli Roth’s Hostel was tearing off tourists’ clothes while slashing their Achilles’, The Hills Have Eyes remake was gnarly in every way and does anybody remember that really cool but super weird Paul Walker flick Running Scared? We were on some dark stuff back in the mid-2000s. It wasn’t just the horror and action genres, either. Comedies like Grandma’s Boy had a level of wildness to them that you don’t see these days.

Prolific is a massive understatement when it comes to describing producer Samuel L. Jackson, who next stars in The Kill Room, which opens Sept. 29.
Since his debut in indie film Together For Days in 1972, the 74-year-old Jackson has been in more than 100 films that have collectively grossed more than $27 billion, making him the highest-grossing live-action actor of all time as of 2021, according to The Numbers.
In his career, he’s been in some of the most iconic films ever, as well, including Spike Lee’s Do The Right Thing (1989), Mo’ Better Blues (1990) and Jungle Fever (1991), Jurassic Park (1993), A Time to Kill (1996), Black Snake Moan (2006), Goodfellas (1990), Die Hard With A Vengeance (1995) and the unforgettable Snakes On A Plane (2006).
Jackson got his big break after he appeared in True Romance (1993), which was written by Quentin Tarantino. After that experience, Tarantino came to Jackson with the role of Jules Winnfield in Pulp Fiction...

Samuel L. Jackson is the highest-grossing actor of all time. The iconic actor, who made his feature film debut in 1972 independent drama Together for Days, has seen his name so far attached to 142 films, which have amassed more than $27 billion in worldwide ticket sales.
The big reason behind the eye-watering figure is Jackson’s frequent appearances in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, wherein he portrays Nick Fury. However, when fans think about the veteran actor, the first character that pops into their mind, more often than not, is Jules. A hitman, who tends to deliver sermons before killing his targets.
Samuel L. Jackson in Pulp Fiction
It won’t be far-fetched to say, Pulp Fiction is his career-defining stint. Yet, as far as Jackson’s opinion is concerned the 1994 cult classic sits below another crime thriller.

Samuel L. Jackson is one of the most highly accomplished actors in all of Hollywood right now, whose roles in films such as Pulp Fiction and Snakes on A Plane helped make him a global phenomenon. Of course, he is more known now for his role as Nick Fury in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. With that said, he is now being considered a typecast actor by a fan who made an incredibly obvious joke.

The Marvel Cinematic Universe has undergone numerous changes and developments over the years, getting mixed responses from fans and critics alike. After all, fans still fondly remember the heyday of Marvel, especially when The Avengers came out in 2012. Not even Samuel L. Jackson has been able to save the franchise for now.

The episode of Wtf Really Happened to This Horror Movie covering Wolf Creek was Written and Narrated by Andrew Hatfield, Edited by Mike Conway, Produced by Lance Vlcek and John Fallon, and Executive Produced by Berge Garabedian.
One of the biggest and some would say overused tropes in horror movies is the killer stalking people in an outdoor setting. The main series for this is, of course, the Friday the 13th series but we have nearly countless other examples to pull from. Sometimes, like today’s entry, or The Burning, these stories and movies can be based on true events and make it even more frightening. Unlike The Burning, which is based on an urban legend with the true story being far from fact, Wolf Creek (watch it Here) had an original script that was tweaked to be based on the real life killers Ivan Milat and Bradley John Murdoch...

The new horror film “The Last Voyage of the Demeter” was dubbed “Dracula on a Boat” by social media users, and the twist on the chapter from Bram Stoker’s iconic horror novel definitely did deliver on the premise of the age-old vampire feasting on the crew of an unlucky ship.
Introducing a monster of any kind — alien, werewolf, zombies — to a vehicle that can’t stop and can’t let anyone off is a tried-and-true horror formula. Here are some of the movies where the combo of “creature” + “claustrophobic form of transportation” worked and some where it ran aground.

With only one weak opening, the weekend box office totals have understandably dropped below any since late June. Have no fear, though: overall performance remains positive.
The same weekend last year managed only a paltry $65 million. The over $115 million that came in this weekend continues the momentum and brings the industry closer to a $4 billion summer — what was seen as an optimistic goal before May is now within view.
If so, the “Barbie” (Warner Bros.)/”Oppenheimer” (Universal) tandem remains the biggest contributing factor. The top two titles (“Oppenheimer” climbed back to #2) notched over 45 percent of the total gross, with both dropping only slightly more than a third in their fourth weekends. Another $33.7 million haul puts Greta Gerwig’s comedy smash up to $526 million domestic, nearing $1.2 billion worldwide. Christopher Nolan’s biopic added another $18.8 million, getting it to $264 million domestic, over $650 million worldwide so far.

Samuel L. Jackson was so excited to do Snakes on a Plane that he did the feature without even reading the script. But after reading the script, he felt the film might have had too many restrictions for a horror flick.

Samuel L. Jackson fought to keep the 'Snakes on a Plane' film title from being changed. The actor starred in the 2006 action horror which features passengers fighting a horde of venomous villains which had been placed on the aircraft by a gang boss in an attempt to cause a crash - and he's now revealed studio bosses wanted to give the film a more generic name to keep the snakes a secret but he wasn't happy about it. Speaking to Vulture, the 74-year-old actor explained he was excited about signing on for the movie because of the title, saying: "When I heard about 'Snakes on a Plane', I had just done 'Formula 51' with the director [Ronny Yu]. So I called him, was like: 'Are you going to do a movie called 'Snakes on a Plane'? Is it what I think it is?...

Samuel L. Jackson had some pretty high hopes for the creature feature Snakes on a Plane. But the film didn’t meet certain expectations after its release, and Jackson theorized this was because it was perhaps too good.
Samuel L. Jackson thought ‘Snakes on a Plane’ would be a bigger success Samuel L. Jackson | Axelle/Bauer-Griffin/FilmMagic
Jackson was eager to do the movie Snakes on a Plane. He personally attached his name and star-power to the project, believing the film would be a solid time at the theaters. Up until the film’s release, there seemed to be much interest in the film, especially on the internet. Snakes on a Plane, Air Force One, and Red Eye are a few classics that have one thing in common. The major plot of the film transpires in an airplane several thousand feet above the ground. Flight movies are a sub-genre of thriller movies, and 97 Minutes, the new movie by Timo Vuorensola starring Jonathan Rhys Meyers and Alec Baldwin, is another addition to that entertaining list.
The story of the film revolves around the hijacking of Oceanic Flight 420, which only has 97 minutes of fuel left. The hijackers are unaware that they have an Interpol agent in their gang. Nsa Director Hawkins and his team try to exploit this fact to save the lives of the people on the plane as well as avoid a possible nuclear holocaust.

Farcical thriller Cocaine Bear – about a drugged-up bear on the loose – follows in the knowingly naff footsteps of Snakes on a Plane, Sharknado and more
There are some films that feel like a mere addendum to their trailer, and Cocaine Bear is one: an idea that sounds so good and so funny as a quick synopsis that it’s almost immaterial whether the finished film makes much of it or not. Whether or not you’ve seen Elizabeth Banks’s farcical, nominally fact-based thriller, released in cinemas in February, you’re probably aware of its one-line pitch: there’s a bear, you see, that somehow ingests a massive stash of cocaine and goes on an almighty rampage. Chaos ensues. What more do you want from a film?
As it happens, Cocaine Bear is a likably ludicrous romp – ideally suited, now that it’s available on VOD, to a Friday-night watch...

"Iron Man" was released exactly 15 years ago today, meaning that the Marvel Cinematic Universe is now a decade and a half hold. But rewinding the clocks to that fateful summer, nobody was using the words "cinematic universe" yet, and most of the superheroes that have dominated the blockbuster space for years nowhere near as well-known to the general public. But thanks to that famous post-credits scene with Samuel L. Jackson's Nick Fury wanting to talk to Tony Stark about the Avengers Initiative, it sure seemed like Marvel had it all planned from the start. Well, they didn't really know what was yet to come, and as evidence of that, Jackson very well could have just ended up making a "Snakes on a Plane" reference instead. Yes, really.

The House of Representin’ was reopened at the South by Southwest Festival in Austin, Texas, as Terry Crews resurrected one of his most famous roles, President Camacho from the cult comedy “Idiocracy,” to announce a party for a fake presidential campaign in 2024.
Back in 2006, Crews appeared in Mike Judge’s comedy about Joe Bauers, an Army corporal deemed the “most average person in the military,” whom along with a sex worker named Rita are selected for a military cryogenic experiment.
When the experiment is forgotten about, the two wake up in the year 2534, where the human race has dumbed itself down to the point that society has collapsed into a barely functioning dystopia on the verge of collapse. With the average Joe now the smartest man on the planet, President Dwayne Elizondo Mountain Dew Herbert Camacho hires him to his cabinet to solve a drought that is killing America’s food supply.

With the average Joe now the smartest man on the planet, President Dwayne Elizondo Mountain Dew Herbert Camacho hires him to his cabinet to solve a drought that is killing America’s food supply.

And why would you? Cocaine Bear perfectly sums up the recently released movie by Elizabeth Banks, but when you choose that title, you’d better deliver. Cocaine Bear writer Jimmy Warden spoke with THR and said that he never once considered giving the movie another title.
“There was never a question in my mind,” Jimmy Warden said. “Why wouldn’t we call it Cocaine Bear? It’s not every day that a title comes your way that describes the movie in two words. You understand exactly what it is and what you want it to be.” I’m reminded of Snakes on a Plane being briefly changed to Pacific Air Flight 121 before Samuel L. Jackson demanded that it be returned to the original title. Thankfully, Cocaine Bear has fared better than Snakes on a Plane.

In 1985, Andrew Thornton, a corrupt lawyer-turned-drug smuggler, dumped packages of cocaine over Georgia before attempting to escape with nearly 80 pounds of the drug strapped to his body. However, the parachute malfunctioned, and Thornton fell to his death in a Georgia resident’s driveway. The rest of the drugs landed in a forest and were consumed by a black bear, who overdosed and died within minutes, eating $20 million worth of the white powder. But what if the bear didn’t die? What if instead, the bear went on a killing rampage, and the lives of some very plain and bland characters crossed paths with the drug-fuelled predator? Well that seems to be the exact question the writers of Cocaine Bear have asked themselves.

Genre regulars Bill Moseley and Lin Shaye have just found their latest horror project to work on – and Shaye is a producer on this one as well! Deadline reports that Moseley and Shaye have signed on to appear in Scared to Death, which will be filming in Los Angeles next month.
Written and directed by Paul Boyd, Scared to Death will tell the story of a group of young filmmakers who enter an abandoned children’s orphanage in order to do research for a movie… and that’s their first mistake.
Scared to Death is coming to us from Mirror Films, and Shaye is producing the film alongside Eric Barrett.
Moseley and Shaye are joined in the cast by Olivier Paris (How I Met Your Father) and Daytime Emmy winner Victoria Konefal (Days of Our Lives).
Moseley and Shaye have both been showing up in horror movies since the 1980s.
