Legendary mystery series with Horst Frank
In the run-up to Christmas in 1983, this remarkable youth mystery series by Franz Josef Gottlieb (The Black Abbot) ran in twelve parts on the afternoon program of the West German television station ZDF.
Shipwrecked people land on the beach of the fictional North Sea village of Breemster, including the young Shabu (Stefan Ernst). Since beach pirates are after a valuable statue of a god in his possession, he is brought to safety by pharmacist's daughter Eltje (Christina Kubinek) and her friend Hendrik (Florian Jentsch). The sinister Professor Hass (Horst Frank in a star role!!!), who is actually an unscrupulous demon, is now also after the statue that represents the mysterious goddess Mandara. Eltje falls more and more under Mandara's spell and involuntarily becomes her priestess. This gives her the gift of being able to kill another person by touching her bare hand. Can Eltje get rid of this fateful curse or will she drag her beloved coastal village to ultimate ruin with the help of Mandara?
Exciting, highly dramatic and really awesome! That was youth television at its best! Screenwriter Justus Pfaue has outdone himself. Unforgettable is how Eltje, with her hand of death, has to play a duet with her hated piano teacher (Anita Kupsch). Pure excitement!
In other roles you can see Hans Clarin as a sexton, Julia Biedermann as a chambermaid and Rainer Hunold as a pastor. Filming took place in Berlin and on the North Sea island of Sylt.
Scary beautiful!!!

innocent and beautiful girl Eltje gets seduced into becoming a priestess of death for an ancient Indian cult. Everybody she touches now with uncovered hands has to die. Can she escape her curse, or will she drag all the people she loves to doom?
this mini series which aired before Christmas '83 is extremely suspenseful and thrilling. i remember, i could hardly await the next part to play on TV, but unfortunately missed the last one... hope this gets released on DVD soon like other great series (Patrik Pacard, Jack Holborn). watch it if you can! unlike other crap aired on TV today, this was a very intelligent show with a truly great storyline.
I have seen this in German Language. It's probably not dubbed for English Audience yet. Some company should buy the rights and dub it. Would be well worth it.
