'Nits' is a beautifully told short story of a very young child and his two parents beginning to cope with the loss of their second child.
I believe this won last year's TCM classic short competition and it really was much-deserved.
It doesn't quite sound right to say that this was a nice little story, due to the subject matter, but the character of the story shone through brightly and sympathetically, leaving me with quite a sad feeling in my gut. You really feel for this young child who is feeling not only a disappointment for not seeing his new brother/sister, but the lack of attention from his remaining family. At no point, does he fully understand the situation, but of course we do 'for him'.
The acting is faultless, especially from this young boy. A simple but deliberate and effective script along with beautiful direction that caresses the story at every frame.
I'm pretty sure you can still view this short film online at the TCM website.
I highly recommend taking 10mins of your time to do so.
