Disney’s animation roster has a history of playing with culturally insensitive fire, from the “siamese” cats in “Lady and the Tramp” to the savage Middle Eastern stereotypes in “Aladdin.” The same directors of that movie, Ron Clements and John Musker, reteam for “Moana,” the tale of a young Polynesian woman who commands the high seas to save the world. Pussy Riot has been fighting for what they believe in since 2011, protesting against Russian President Vladimir Putin and advocating for women’s and Lgbt rights, among other topics. The feminist punk rock group continues to send messages to the masses and their latest video, “Make America Great Again,” takes a dig at Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump.

“Because You decide elections and if we get together, we could blow this shit up, take action and reverse this erosion of rights. Because f**k it,” reads the video’s caption.

Directed by Jonas Akerlund, the video stars Nadya Tolokno and envisions a world in which Trump wins the upcoming election. The clip begins with footage of the business mogul at rallies and people fighting, it then shows the singer being dragged into a police station where she’s branded as an “outsider” and “fat pig.”

Independent film director Alex Ross Perry has a full slate of upcoming projects, including a new feature film and a yet-to-be-titled live-action “Winnie the Pooh” project, but he found the time to co-direct a music video for the duo Sleigh Bells with the band’s Derek E. Miller. The song is titled “I Can Only Stare” and it’s off their upcoming album “Jessica Rabbit.” The video was shot in 16mm and it features singer Alexis Krauss playing three different women. The year 2018 will see the release of an omnibus anime feature film based on “Force of Will”, a fantasy trading card game first launched in 2012 in Japan. The omnibus will be comprised of six anime shorts. Each short will be approximately 15 minutes long.

A trailer for the first segment, named L.S and based on H.P. Lovecraft’s Cthulhu mythology was recently released. The story revolves around a young girl, haunted by « Word » who writes letters. When her writings spread all over the world, the evil tyrant who threatens the world makes its presence known.

The film is directed by Shuhei Morita (Tokyo Ghoul, Possessions) and Tatsuyuki Tanaka (Tojin Kit, Buki yo Saraba) is responsible for the character design. Studio Yamato Works is responsible for the production.

We look back at an often-overlooked part of the Ghostbusters legacy: it's Extreme Ghostbusters...

There was a time when no one cared about Ghostbusters. It was the late 90s - the pre-Pokemon, post-Mighty Morphin Power Rangers days to be exact. Nobody’s kid was exactly clamouring for a sequel, reboot, or a Ghostbusters continuation of any kind - except for Dan Aykroyd, who was practically lobbying for a third instalment while sitting front row at the Ghostbusters II premiere. Which is why we have this: an awkwardly timed, tonally disruptive Ghostbusters animated series.

Enter a brand new cartoon that picked up the sticky, ectoplasm-covered mantle of The Real Ghostbusters and wore it slightly askew to evoke that wholesome sense of 1990s irreverence: Extreme Ghostbusters.

Living up to its name, Xgb was extreme indeed. One glance at its radically inclusive team line-up is all you need to notice that.

There are different themes and moods associated with each season that, aside from the weather, make them remarkably different from one another. Summer in particular is associated with vitality, energy, and joy, while winter, in contrast, is most linked to death, lethargy, and hopelessness. Albums like 808s and Heartbreak, Reflektor, and Led Zeppelin IV are clearly winter albums, while Some Girls, True Blue, and Californication are without question summer albums.

Even comic books reflect this trend as some are more fit for particular seasons or times of the day than others. Some comics like Daredevil and Batman are nighttime books, while Superman and Amazing Spider-Man are daytime books. Alex Garland recently mentioned that he had an idea for 28 Months Later that was being worked on by producer Andrew Macdonald, and now 28 Days Later director Danny Boyle is saying he wouldn't rule out a return to the franchise.

Speaking with IGN's Chris Tilly about his new biopic Steve Jobs, Boyle said that he would have "no hesitation" helming the third entry in the 28 series if it was unique enough from the previous films and also presented a similar "How are you going to direct that?" challenge of his Steve Jobs gig.

After his somewhat overlooked and rushed introduction in the previous issue, the identity of the mysterious Prophet is revealed. Along with the intriguing cliffhanger, issue #7 gets Secret Wars back on track after a long layover in action. Readers are finally starting to see the heroes plan come together, while Jonathan Hickman is slowly tipping his cards as to the miniseries’ grand finale. It’s an exciting mix of espionage, character dynamics, and revelations that, unlike the previous two or three issues, satiates reader’s hunger.

The newest issue of Secret Wars sees the story heat up with a massive battle not seen since the very first issue. The forces of the Prophet aim to overthrow the false god Doom, while the deity’s various kingdoms rush to defend him.

It’s the most uncomfortable type of horror scene, but if done correctly, can pack a gut punch. The violation scene is the moment when the character’s vulnerability is betrayed and our empathy immerses us deeper into their dreadful ordeal. The young child possessed by an evil spirit. The unlucky bystander assaulted in a tunnel. The crazed woman submitting to a creature of non human origin. The violation scene can be emotional or it can be exploitative, but it’s almost always guaranteed to get us talking.

The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari (1919)- Cesare abducting Jane

Even though it was one of the originators of German Expressionist film, The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari is often regarded as the pinnacle for the movement. Two of the movement’s basic tenets were distorted lines and shapes and overly theatrical movements from the actors, and both are well on display in this creepy scene.

There's no letting go of grudges in rock 'n' roll, and it appears Rage Against the Machine's bassist has still not settled his beef with Limp Bizkit. Tim Commerford, presumably speaking on behalf of his band, is now taking full responsibility for the existence of the Fred Durst–led rap-metal outfit. He tells Rolling Stone: "I do apologize for Limp Bizkit. I really do. I feel really bad that we inspired such bullshit. They're gone, though. That's the beautiful thing. There's only one left, and that's Rage, and as far as I'm concerned, we're the only one that matters." This of course isn't the first time Commerford has expressed his animosity toward Durst and co. He famously pulled a Kanye-before-Kanye and disrupted Limp Bizkit's speech at the 2000 VMAs, climbing atop a massive part of the stage design while the band accepted the award for Best Rock Video, beating...

The “Killkini” Lives

As it is officially summer, it is my sworn duty as Destroy the Brain’s fashion consultant to bring to you the latest in horror inspired warm weather wear. As I’ve often said in this column, the worlds of horror and heavy metal are forever intertwined. So I’ve also included a few items that will appeal to those of you with headbanging tendencies.

First up is the slightly ridiculous silicone “Killkini” (pictured above, $80) from Denver, Colorado shop, Blood Lust Productions. This itsy-bitsy-teeny-weenie Brazilian cut number even glows in the dark. Which in my estimation will only make you easier to find while you’re being chased by a deranged slasher in a hockey mask, that just so happens to match the one on your crotch. But as bizarre as the Killkini is, Blood Lust took swimwear to the next level of hell with the creation of the “Necronomokini.

Progressive house mainstay Sander Van Doorn has just released a new track in the form of “Oh, Amazing Bass.” With support from the likes of Tiësto, Oliver Heldens and A-Trak, the song is sure to find its way into its fair share of DJ sets over the remainder of the festival season.

A “Greyhound”-esque buildup leads into a gradual progression with a subtle uplift before retro synth work cues an understated bass drop. Van Doorn clearly made groove his priority with this track, as the absence of any real fist pumping-inducing sections allows the listener to dissect some of its novel sound design.

While I like the track better than his formulaic big room house bangers like “Phoenix” and “Rage,” part of me wishes he stuck to the progressive, world music-inspired stylings of his most recent track, “Ori Tali Ma.” Also, naming the track “Oh, Amazing Bass” is about...

Yanim Studio’s Kickstarter-funded project, Red Goddess: Inner World, was originally set to be released later this year, but unfortunately the game has been pushed back until the first quarter of 2016 due to further testing and debugging. The team have issued an apology and in order to keep gamers happy, they’ve just released the first trailer.

The game looks fantastic, and while 2016 is a long way to go, it’ll be well worth the wait. Red Goddess is led by Yannick Puig, the creator of many award-winning 3D shorts and music videos and has a distinct art style influenced by Studio Ghibli, Journey on PS3, Double Fine, the Frederator series, and Trine, to name a few. The music, which is fantastic, is also worth noting, and Nintendo fans will be pleased to know that the Wii U version will be optimized to take advantage of the Gamepad. Watch the trailer below.

The world of Doctor Who has changed greatly in the space of just 10 years. The cast and crew have almost completely been replaced since 2005, including a number of new actors to play the errant Time Lord and his companions.

1.7 Blessed Are The Damned

Constantine continues its winning streak with another strong episode, proving that the show’s writers can come up with some decent original material (although Hellblazer stuff would still be better).

This week digs deep into religion and Christian lore, drawing some revelations out of its characters along the way. Both Zed and Manny come to life in ways we haven’t seen before, revealing intriguing struggles and weaknesses.

A struggling Kentucky preacher named Zachary is bitten by a poisonous snake, then returns from the dead with miraculous healing powers. Zachary believes he is doing the Lord’s work, but magic comes with a price, and those Zachary heals are turning to murderous monsters Constantine calls “ghouls” (though they more resemble zombies with werewolf tendencies). Constantine and Zed find a fallen angel,...

1.5 Rage Of Caliban

Rage Of Caliban was originally intended to air as episode 2, and it does have a back-to-basics feel, complete with didactic dialogue and the conspicuous absence of Zed. The episode draws on the good old fashioned demonic child trope and, as is the norm for Constantine, tells a story that is entertaining but not extraordinary.

Constantine and Chas go to Birmingham, Alabama and discover a string of murders in which both parents were killed but their only child was spared. Constantine believes the kids are being possessed by the spirit of a child. In a clever bit of storytelling, the spirit does act like a (very powerful) child, throwing violent tantrums and getting upset when adults argue.

Like many of you, I've enjoyed watching these movies and shows since I was a little kid, but holy crap! There are some extremely dark and terrifying moments that could really screw a kid up! Disney did some jacked up stuff. I've come up with a list of ten scenes from these kids movies that are the things of nightmares. I should let you know that I wanted to keep this list strictly Disney, so I did not include any Pixar films. I also didn't include such traumatic scenes such as Bambi's mom and Simba's dad dying. What would you give to see Led Zeppelin live? We’re not talking about a reunion show. No, this is Zeppelin in the mid-1970s, with John Bonham still kicking and the band at the height of their considerable powers. What would you give? A year’s wages? Your dog? Your first-born child? Whatever you say, someone else can almost certainly best you.

These hyperbolic assertions don’t do much to mask a sad truth; in music – as with everything – time marches on and we lose some of our favourites. There are some things that we will never be able to do again, and the prospects of seeing any of these bands ever again are at best remote and at worst completely impossible.

The losses of these and many other legends can be crushing. Generations of young music listeners grow up knowing that they will never be able to see their favourite band.

Cat isn't good at parties

Poor Catherine Chandler might want to just avoid all social engagements that don't consist solely of someone leaping in through her window. Those are the only ones that seem to really work out for her.
