In April 2004 its distributor announced that the movie had been seen by more than 368,000 Norwegian movie-goers after running for only ten weeks (there are only 4.6 million people in Norway). For comparison the first movie, Olsenbanden Junior går under vann (2003), which was considered a huge Norwegian success ended up on 362,796 people after 33 weeks.
The film takes place in 1960.
Hilde Lyrån worked with Arve Opsahl, who played Egon Olsen in the original series, on the popular sit-com, Mot i brøstet (1993).
Aksel Støren Aschjem, Bastian Hafr, Halvor Borgen Lindstad and Karoline Gamlund retired from acting after this movie.
