It’s been an exciting time for scary movies, with everything from “Get Out” to “It” turning 2017 into the biggest year for horror box office receipts on record. With $733 million and counting, according to Box Office Mojo, it’s never been a better time for the genre. Diehard fans also took note of a momentous new gathering for likeminded souls — The Overlook Film Festival, an exclusive new horror film festival that took place within the confines of the Timberline Lodge in Mount Hood, Oregon. The intimate enclosure — where Stanley Kubrick shot some of the exteriors for “The Shining” — provided a platform for the world premieres of the Blumhouse production “Stephanie” and A24’s “It Comes at Night,” in addition to live performances, interactive gaming and panel discussions, threaded together with the enthusiasm of a crowd eager to celebrate all things terrifying and spooky.
Now, The Overlook is on the move.

How far would you go for social media followers? It’s a question many millennials have probably asked themselves -- but hopefully, they won’t go as far as the leads of the upcoming horror-comedy Tragedy Girls.
The film tells the story of two death-obsessed teenage girls who embark on a killing spree in their small town to draw attention to their social media accounts, and its two stars, Brianna Hildebrand and Alexandra Shipp, spoke with Et about how frighteningly close to reality this concept is.
“I don’t think it’s that far-fetched,” Shipp admitted. “I think this generation is moving toward something like this in a sense.”
“It definitely says a lot about the power of social media,” Hildebrand agreed. “It is definitely not too far off to think a young person would do something like this for likes and attention.”
“I think it only takes one person to go that far,” Shipp added.

I suppose it had to happen soon to one the cast of the Jersey Shore, but The Situation has entered rehab.
Josh Brolin is set to host Saturday Night Live April 7th, with musical guest Gotye, further convincing me that those kids should get off my lawn.
Speaking of music, Gavin Creel released Get Out yesterday, and I found it surprising, in a good way. I was expecting big anthemic ballads, but he had some harder stuff on there and some dance remixes. Really enjoying it.
Joseph Gordon-Levitt really has no idea how the time machine works in Looper. But he says he modeled his performance on Bruce Willis, who plays the older version of his character. Was that so Willis didn't have to act at all?
Tom Hanks released a statement calling a years-old video that surfaced of him on stage with someone in blackface "hideously offensive then and is hideously offensive now.

Many audiences don't realize it, but the movie industry is in serious trouble. Going to the cinema used to be a big event for couples and families. Not long after talking pictures were created, audiences would actually dress up in their Sunday best to go to the movies because they considered it a luxury equal to a trip to a live show. Now its become a cheap date where for a couple of bucks you can treat someone to popcorn, soda and maybe a little food and basically not look at each other for two hours. The biggest problem is that the studios have shifted their focus from quality to technology, always trying to outdo one another with the latest gags rather than produce good stories. We all know this, yet like suckers, when the latest spectacle gets promoted, we end up dazzled and hypnotized like those poor children by the Piped Piper of Hamelin.
