Several years ago, Star Trek and Idw confirmed that their comics would start to be considered canon going forward. It was a bold move, as outside media rarely ever was considered canon. At times, the franchise has pulled elements from non-television or film sources, like Spock's full name but it never really recognized anything that wasn't a film or movie.
That's been changing and thanks to the series currently going on with Idw, those comics are now considered canon. It started with 2022's Star Trek: Day of Blood mini-series, which brought back Benjamin Sisko from the wormhole. It's continued on from there and it's introduced some ideas that are well received and others that are not.
Now, in Star Trek issue #26, the team behind the current book opted to erase the Kelvin Timeline from history. It's all about Star Trek doing their own Zero Hour event, where Lore, Data's android twin,...

Green Lanterns one true nemesis has returned, and not only does it spell doom for Hal Jordan, but the DC Universe as a whole. Green Lantern has one of the best rogue galleries in comics, but one member, more than any, strikes literal fear into his heart, and this evil powerhouse makes their grand return to the DC Universe in the Zero Hour: Crisis in Time 30th Anniversary Special.
Zero Hour: Crisis in Time 30th Anniversary Special is written by Dan Jurgens and drawn by an all-star roster of artists. Throughout the one-shot, Kyle Rayner fights alongside the heroes of a lost Earth, created by Hal Jordan while he was under the influence of Parallax.
At the end, Kyle is victorious over Parallax, but as a result of the battle, the Fear Entity is once again unleashed on the universe.

Certain parody movies have managed to surpass their original inspirations in terms of popularity, cultural impact, and enduring appeal. Airplane! is now much more iconic than Zero Hour! Singin' in the Rain is so great that a lot of people don't realize most of its songs were taken from other (lesser-known) movies.
From Airplane! to Blazing Saddles to The Rocky Horror Picture Show, some parodies are so great and iconic that they outshine the movies they originally set out to spoof. Usually, a parody movie only gets made because the film its targeting is a cultural staple. As hilarious as Spaceballs is, it was never going to outdo the Star Wars saga. But some parodies go for more obscure targets; not a lot of people know that Airplane! is practically a shot-for-shot remake of a ridiculous disaster movie called Zero Hour!, or that The Naked Gun borrows its premise from Telefon.

Warning: Contains Spoilers for Star Trek: Discovery's finale, "Life, Itself"
The big twists in the Star Trek: Discovery finale may have been too obscure for casual viewers to fully appreciate. The reveal that Doctor Kovich is actually Temporal Agent Daniels from Star Trek: Enterprise may have been lost on some viewers. The epilogue setting up an episode of Star Trek: Short Treks in Discovery's finale left some fans underwhelmed and craving a more satisfying ending.
There's an argument to be made that the big twists from the Star Trek: Discovery finale were too "inside baseball" and obscure to make the desired impact on the casual viewer. Written by Kyle Jarrow and Michelle Paradise, Discovery's finale, "Life, Itself" was both a sequel to Star Trek: The Next Generation season 6, episode 20, "The Chase" and the culmination of five seasons worth of adventures for Captain Michael Burnham (Sonequa Martin-Green). The anthology continues DC's success with holiday collections and explores horror in an alternate universe, honoring the publisher's long history.
DC Comics' huge crossover events are already somewhat horrifying: entire dimensions being wiped out, zombie heroes raised from the dead the New 52. However, DC is upping the ante this Halloween with an anthology collection of new horror stories set during events like Infinite Crisis, Zero Hour, Flashpoint, and more. This time around I am going to open up a bit more on the adventures of The Dark Knight, and take a look at some of the bigger, and in my opinion, best stories for potential Batman readers. This will include small and big story lines that exist in various continuities within the DC Comics publication history for the character. It will be a while before the networks start making decisions about which shows to bring back for the 2013-14 season. But it's never too early to start speculating.
Zap2it's annual Bubble Watch will roll out as usual in March and April, and you'll have a chance to vote on which on-the-fence shows to keep and which ones to dump. With pilot season about to heat up, though, it's worth looking at last year's pilots -- this season's first-year shows -- and seeing how their chances of renewal for a second season stack up. Let's go:
Locks
"Arrow": It's The CW's most-watched series (averaging about 4 million viewers), and though it skews a little older than the network's target demographic, networks just don't cancel their most-watched shows.
"Elementary": CBS gave its Sherlock Holmes show a big vote of confidence by giving it a Super Bowl lead-in on Feb.

Yesterday we learned that Steven Spielberg's epic sci-fi film Robopocalypse was put on hold, but for some reason a lot of sites around the web reported that the project was dead. Not sure where that came from, but it's not dead, just delayed. Just to set things straight, Spielberg talked to EW explaining that the movie isn't dead, and why exactly he decided to put it on hold.
We found that the film was costing a lot of money, and I found a better way to tell the story more economically but also much more personally. I found the personal way into 'Robopocalypse', and so I just told everybody to go find other jobs, I’m starting on a new script and we’ll have this movie back on its feet soon.

Steven Spieberg's next film was supposed to the big budget sci-fi film Robopocalypse, but it's been put on hold. It was supposed to start shooting this spring, but apparently he just wants some more time to develop it. The movie isn't dead, it's just going to take a little more time to get to the big screen. Spielberg still plans on directing it, the film just isn't rush priority for him. Spielberg's spokesman, Marvin Levy, released a statement saying, the movie is "too important and the script is not ready, and it's too expensive to produce. It's back to the drawing board to see what is possible."
The film is an adaptation of a novel written by Daniel H. Wilson, and the screenplay was written by Drew Goddard (Cabin in the Woods, Cloverfield). The story centers on a battle for survival after mankind generates its first mass intelligence computer brain only to see it escape,...

Whether surviving the zombie apocalypse, saving the world from evil-doers or, ya know, crafting clever flying contraptions for cartoon pigs, this year’s best gaming apps provided plenty of compelling reasons to let our home consoles collect dust while we gamed on the go.

Updated 12/31: New year, new shows for the broadcast nets. The most promising new series looks to be the Kevin Bacon starrer from The Vampire Diaries’ Kevin Williamson called The Following, which features the sexy James Purefoy (Rome) in a very unsexy role. There’s also a new reality show rolling out on CBS Fridays called The Job (which will fill the bill until the Eye’s other job-based show, Undercover Boss, returns), and NBC’s got a Revenge-like drama called Deception bowing on Monday.

ABC today revealed that it is pulling the remaining completed episodes of 666 Park Avenue from its winter lineup entirely, in favor of a couple of comedies which will continue on in their regular Tuesday night slots on top of taking over the Sunday position. Because 10:00 on a Sunday night is a notoriously excellent slot for comedy.
Sorry for the snark, but seriously? We try to keep the coverage even-tempered and generally positive here at SciFiMafia.com, but this decision is just so frakking irritating. THR is reporting that the unaired 666 Park Avenue episodes will be shown this summer, the network version of wishing a show into the cornfield.
Sci-fi fans, we’re going to need to really pull together for Zero Hour, which premieres on February 14 at 8/7c. And hopefully the episodes that follow the excellent pilot will warrant our commitment. Best of luck to all.

ABC is overhauling its schedule for midseason with changes on four nights. New comedies Family Tools and How To Live With Your Parents (For The Rest Of Your Life) will join the network’s Wednesday comedy block, with ABC’s Tuesday comedy block going away. New drama Red Widow will succeed 666 Park Ave on Sunday. ABC is replacing now-defunct freshman Last Resort with another male-skewing new drama in the challenging Thursday 8 Pm slot, Zero Hour. And, following the end of Private Practice, the revamped Body of Proof will return to its Tuesday 10 Pm slot. For a second consecutive year, ABC is scrapping a plan announced at the upfronts to expand its Tuesday comedy block from one to two hours in midseason. Last fall, the network started with a 8-9 Pm block anchored by Last Man Standing, which was supposed to stretch to 10 Pm in midseason with the addition of Cougar Town...

ABC has opted not to give full season orders for its new dramas "Last Resort" and "666 Park Avenue," effectively axing both shows.
Though the network picked up two additional scripts for each show, they've decided not to produce them or further episodes beyond the original thirteen episode order. Both series will be allowed to finish airing their already produced thirteen episodes.
ABC passed on both shows due to underwhelming ratings. 'Resort' was averaging over seven million viewers per episode in its 8pm Thursday timeslot, one of the hardest for the network to fill. Shows like "Missing" and the "Charlie's Angels" reboot have all died in the same timeslot over the past eighteen months.
'666' was pulling in around five million viewers per episode. ABC will likely fill those slots with some of its new mid-season dramas like "Zero Hour," "Mistresses" and "Red Widow."

Back in September, we heard the excellent news that Anne Hathaway was circling the female lead for Steven Spielberg’s Robopocalypse, the upcoming sci-fi/action blockbuster adaptation of Daniel H. Wilson’s best-selling novel.
Hathaway has recently been speaking with Empire, and has now confirmed her involvement with the project:
“If Robopocalypse happens I will be in it… and I believe it’s quite real, though you never want to hang your hat on anything.”
Chris Hemsworth and Ben Whishaw have also been in talks to star in the film, and the three would certainly make for a very interesting trio.
The ever-brilliant Drew Goddard (Cloverfield, The Cabin in the Woods) has penned the script from which Spielberg will direct.
Courtesy of Waterstones, here’s the original synopsis for Wilson’s novel:

The gray rolling seas thundered through the forest of pilings under the piers, sometimes cresting enough to send a geyser of wind-whipped froth up onto the decking. Other places, it poured through the gaps the wind and tide had eaten through the dunes and poured into the beach town streets. It pulled boats large and small from their moorings in the lagoon marinas and piled them like a child’s toys up on the land. Some in apartment buildings would tell of the cars in the ground level garage floating against each other bathtub playthings. But there was nothing childlike in the way it took entire houses, made seaside villages look like an extension of the ocean and not the land.

While some New York-area television shows resumed filming today after Hurricane Sandy battered the east coast Monday, it could be a harder road to recovery for ABC’s 666 Park Avenue.
The show’s set, which is located at Cine Magic Riverfront Studios in Brooklyn, overlooking the New York City skyline, suffered severe damages after water flooded the building Monday night.
“I went to check them out on the night of the storm at 10 p.m. and they were under 6 feet of water — the entire complex,” says Peter Kapsalis, owner of Cine Magic Riverfront Studios. “It wasn’t in very good shape.

It’s no surprise that Halloween results in big sales for all types of business around the country, but it’s interesting when someone does the math and breaks down how much is spent and what is purchased. According to FEARnet, Halloween and the horror industry at this time of year is a $7 billion dollar business and they’ve put together an interesting infographic to show off some of the highlights:
(Santa Monica – October 23, 2012) – Halloween has been transformed—it is no longer merely a day for candy and superstition; it is a multi-billion-dollar business, according to figures compiled by FEARnet, the cable industry’s premier TV movie network, VOD channel and online portal featuring horror, suspense and thriller content. In 2011, Halloween-related spending neared 7 billion dollars; up from 3.29 billion dollars in 2005. This year, the average person will spend $72.31 on costumes, candy and decorations, and will have an estimated 15,000 pop-up Halloween stores to choose from.

I believe that all DC’s continuity still exists.
That may sound controversial (and it could just be the way my brain works), but I genuinely believe in that statement. I have followed the adventures of various comic book heroes for years and have gone back and read and researched stories from before, during and after the first Crisis on Infinite Earths and still believe that those stories also count. I believe that just as time is depicted as being a fluid changeable series of random events, so too is the continuity and stories of all the DC heroes. In fact, I see the characters following the time-line in their universe in much the same way as we do as readers.
I see it as a straight line in many respects. For example, all of the pre-crisis stories such as Superman fighting Lex Luthor on Lexor and the Flash traversing between parallel universes happened.

Ken Leung has added a third drama series to his busy workload.
The Lost alum has joined NBC’s midseason soap Infamous in a recurring role, TVLine has learned exclusively. Leung is also currently recurring on CBS’ Person of Interest as a thieving accountant, and recently booked an arc as a priest on ABC’s upcoming thriller Zero Hour.
Infamous is described as an opulent soap in which a female detective (played by Meaghan Good) returns undercover to the wealthy family she grew up in – as the maid’s daughter – to solve the murder of the notorious heiress who was once her closest friend.

She’s been a princess and actually had the guts to steal a car from Batman himself, but Anne Hathaway might be facing a brand new challenge if she enters the world of Robopocalypse.
