Reese Witherspoon is adding “published author” to her résumé.
Ben Sevier, president & publisher of Grand Central Publishing, announced Wednesday the acquisition of a new suspense novel by Witherspoon and best-selling author and TV creator Harlan Coben.
The novel is Witherspoon’s debut and is based on her original idea. In addition to writing and publishing the novel, a screen adaptation is also in development.
Witherspoon said in a statement, “To say I am a fan of Harlan’s body of work is a massive understatement … the fact that he found my idea for this thriller intriguing enough to want to partner with me on it as co-author is a dream becoming a reality. Scheming with Harlan on how to thrill audiences with mysterious characters and complex narrative twists and turns has already been more fun than I can describe. I can’t wait for everyone to read what we have been imagining.

Gather 'round fellow Supes and sickos, because "The Boys" are back in town for season 4. The smash-hit superhero satire series on Prime Video has been one of the streamer's greatest success stories, spawning the equally popular animated spin-off "Diabolical," and more recently, the college-set "Gen V." When we last saw the foul-mouthed heroes and villains (and everything in between) at the end of season 3, there were some massive shakeups happening. Homelander straight up killed a guy in front of a crowd to uproarious applause, Annie has given up her role as Starlight and has joined the Boys' mercenary group in an official capacity, and The Seven is in absolute shambles.
Fortunately, we already know we can expect two new Supes, Sister Sage and Firecracker. With Starlight out and Queen Maeve having faked her own death to live a life in obscurity with her partner Elena, it's about time we had...

Can you imagine a time traveler ripping a hole through space/time and appearing right in front of you 10 years ago just to reveal that, in the year 2023, the most smoothly-run and critically acclaimed shared universe of all superhero media wouldn't be the Marvel Cinematic Universe or their DC rivals ... but "The Boys"? It's difficult to wrap one's mind around how we ended up here, but that has officially become the case following the successful release of the spin-off series "Gen V," which effortlessly integrated characters and storylines from its predecessor without ever making the viewing experience feel like homework. Imagine that!
By all accounts, such intertwined storytelling is only going to continue once "The Boys" returns with season 4. "Gen V" season 1 ended with the shocking developments of a riot breaking out at Godolkin University, our heroic protagonists being framed for the death and destruction, and both Homelander (Antony Starr...

The Boys universe is shaping up nicely after Gen V arrived with force and introduced a new development bound to shake things up.
While Gen V was billed as a spin-off with a much younger cast of characters, they have proven that they can handle themselves, and some of them might be ready to occupy the much-coveted spot in The Seven.
Gen V Season 1 Episode 8 was a wild episode that saw the partial resolution of some storylines.
Many existing storylines took a turn as they prepared the characters for their debut in the flagship series.
While the episode was fun to watch, the ending was quite cryptic.
Why Were Sam and Cate Called The New Guardians of Godolkin?
The descent into supe-remacy by Cate and Sam was so quick. If someone didn't pay attention, they would miss it.
One moment had Sam trying to stay sane, and the next, he...

Superheroes are everywhere. But the truth is that most superhero stories on TV and film don't really matter. No matter how big the story seems, it doesn't feel like their respective universes change that much. Marvel characters have died, and big battles have been fought, but the Marvel Cinematic Universe doesn't look that different from how it was in the very first "Iron Man." This is to say, a show like "Gen V" makes for a refreshing change of pace.

[Warning: The below contains Major spoilers for Gen V, Season 1, Episode 8, “Guardians of Godolkin.”] Gen V has delivered its first finale with plenty of shock and awe to keep viewers eager for both The Boys Season 4 and the recently announced second season of the Godolkin University-set spinoff. As Cate (Maddie Phillips) and Sam (Asa Germann) free the young Supes imprisoned in “The Woods” beneath Godolkin, all hell breaks loose as they go on a killing rampage, murdering any non-Supes they cross paths with a few becoming collateral damage along the way. While Marie (Jaz Sinclair), Jordan (London Thor & Derek Luh), and Emma (Lizze Broadway) try to combat the sudden and dangerous situation, Vought’s Ashley Barrett (Colby Minifie) finds herself trapped with fellow board members amid the chaos. Eager to get the heck out of Godolkin, she calls upon the big bad of The Boys, Homelander (Antony Starr), to neutralize the situation after her desperate pleas to Godolkin’s ...

Gen V's freshman season has been full of ups and downs, and sometimes, the story can be frustrating to follow along, let alone get invested in.
Some of the decisions that have been made regarding the characters and plot points have been genuinely disappointing and might amount to crimes against the show.
But one thing the show has not been is boring. It has been a nice ride with the numerous shocking scenes, wild action, and enticing ships. Gen V Season 1 Episode 8 completed this part of the ride by delivering a fantastic season finale.
With this show, one can never know what to expect. It can be a good thing, or it can sink the ship.
I stopped trying to figure out where the story was headed a long time ago, and maybe for the better, because Gen V Season 1 Episode 7 took a turn and had the narrative going in another direction.

Spoiler Alert: This article contains spoilers for Episode 8 of “Gen V,” the Season 1 finale (“Guardians of Godolkin”), now streaming on Amazon’s Prime Video.
“The Boys” Season 4 doesn’t have a premiere date yet, but in a way, it has already started — at least for “Gen V” viewers. The Season 1 finale of “Gen V,” the spin-off to Prime Video’s wildly popular “The Boys,” featured Homelander (Antony Starr) and Butcher (Karl Urban) in key scenes that set up the storyline for “Gen V” Season 2. But according to “The Boys” showrunner Eric Kripke and “Gen V” co-showrunner Michele Fazekas, the finale also leads right into what happens next season on “The Boys.”
In the episode, Butcher appears in a brief mid-credits scene where he’s exploring a now-abandoned The Woods facility. He’s clearly aware of the supe virus that the deceased Dean Shetty (Shelley Conn) commissioned and tried to give...

Spoiler alert: This post contains plot details from the Season 1 finale of “Gen V.”
Antony Starr and Karl Urban — who star on Amazon’s Prime Video drama “The Boys” as Homelander and Billy Butcher, respectively — reprised their roles in the Season 1 finale of “Gen V.” And it turns out they were gracious enough to do it on their “day off” from filming as Homelander assists some fledgling supervillains and Billy ties the Supe virus storyline to “The Boys” Season 4.
“Of course with Homelander, we were always kicking around, ‘When do you want to see him?’ And, ‘When do you want to pull that card?’ Because it’s a rare thing, and we didn’t want to squander it,” “Gen V” showrunner Michele Fazekas told TheWrap of Starr’s cameo. “It had come up throughout the season, and then it just made sense as the sort of thing to happen in the finale.

The first season of The Boys spinoff Gen V is coming to a close this week, and it seems like we’re in for a wild ride as the young supes of God U struggle to decide how to move forward after discovering the true nature of The Woods and its experiments.
With Dean Shetty (Shelley Conn) now dead at Cate’s (Maddie Phillips) behest, the threat of the virus seems to be quelled for now, but that doesn’t mean that Cate’s thirst for vengeance has. In the season finale preview, Cate and Sam (Asa Germann) band together to release the people being held in The Woods and seek justice for the atrocities committed against the young supes of God U. Their friends, however, don’t seem too thrilled by the gleam of violence in their eyes as the campus descends into chaos.

The secret experiments that she and Dr. Cardosa (Marco Pigossi) have been performing on young supes in the secret on-campus facility dubbed The Woods are cruel, but not any more so than what Stormfront (Aya Cash) and Lamplighter were doing to the supes held at the Vought facility Sage Grove in The Boys season 2.
Until episode 7, Dr. Cardosa even believed that the supe-targeting virus that he’s been working on was for Vought so that they could find a way to control supes and keep them in line. However, in the episode “Sick,” Shetty reveals to Cardosa that Vought has no idea about the deadly...

Heads rolled (well popped) in the latest episode of Gen V, as Prime Videos’s The Boys spinoff delivered an action-packed penultimate episode that tied neatly into its bigger brother. The Boys showrunner Eric Kripke has already confirmed (via EW) that the Gen V finale will include a “handoff” to The Boys season 4, and with some significant cameos during “Sick”, things are starting to come together.

Having thrown Stan Edgar (Giancarlo Esposito) under the bus in The Boys season 3, she’s now on the way to the White House as a vice presidential candidate. Since "Gen V" premiered, it became amply clear that there was something nefarious about The Woods, which seemed like an open secret among the adults occupying the ranks in Vought. As for the young adults, the weight of the truth was too much to bear: Luke/Golden Boy (Patrick Schwarzenegger) ended up dying by suicide due to the trauma of being mentally toyed with, while his brother Sam (Asa Germann) is currently unable to escape radical indoctrination despite being free. The others — Marie (Jaz Sinclair), Andre (Chance Perdomo), Jordan (London Thor/David Luh), Cate (Maddie Philips), and Emma (Lizze Broadway) — wrestle their inner demons over the course of the episodes, trying to help uncover the unsavory secrets that lie beneath Godolkin. Until one of them goes rogue.

Back at the beginning of "Gen V" season 1, I wrote about lead Marie Moreau's (Jaz Sinclair) blood-bending superpowers. Thus far, the characters have spoken of her powers with slight disgust, as if they're uniquely gross. As it turns out, there's been another blood-manipulating Supe in "The Boys" hiding in plain sight: Congresswoman Victoria Neuman (Claudia Doumit).
Introduced in "The Boys" season 2, Neuman first seemed like a good person, helping to rally the public against the Vought corporation and their out-of-control super "heroes." Then, in the finale "What I Know," it turned out Neuman and the mystery Supe who had been remotely blowing up people's heads all season were one and the same. Neuman is actually a double agent for Vought and the adopted daughter of CEO Stan Edgar (Giancarlo Esposito). During season 3, she throws Edgar under the bus, allies...

Years removed from its original release, it can be hard to really grasp how huge "The Blair Witch Project" really was. The film was a major financial success and it popularized the found footage sub-genre. It also changed horror and cinema marketing forever. It employed a viral internet marketing campaign that made many people think the events of the film were real and the stars were actually dead — something the real (and alive) cast was not paid nearly enough for.
The film, a low-budget horror about kids trapped in the woods, was a nightmare to shoot. Though the titular witch is never seen, she is felt throughout the runtime, with a fascinating and complex mythology that remains as mysterious as it was 20 years ago. And that mythology, with all the supplementary material from the time — fake TV documentaries, an epistolary novel, and much more — forms the basis of 2016's surprise sequel "Blair Witch.

After the revelation made about Cate on Gen V Season 1 Episode 5, everything changed.
The story finally made sense and didn't feel as disjointed anymore.
On Gen V Season 1 Episode 6, the show took the main characters -- and Dustin -- on an emotional journey as they confronted some of the worst moments in their lives.
Somehow, Marie, Andre, Jordan, and Dustin found themselves inside Cate's mind, and a lot went down there.
First was the cameo by Soldier Boy that everyone had been waiting for, and I'm not everyone.
Soldier Boy was in like one season of The Boys, so I wasn't excited.
I could have also done without that scene based on how he was introduced.
Gen V and The Boys are known for pushing boundaries on what can be shown on TV, and we've always loved them for that, but is there a point where a line must be drawn?...

And just like that, we’re in the homestretch of The Boys‘ first spinoff Gen V. With only eight episodes in total, the upcoming episode six makes the beginning of the end for this story about the young supes at Godolkin University.

If that weren’t harrowing enough, episode 5 revealed the culprit of the gang’s memory issues and even set up the surprise return of a beloved Boys character in the form of Jensen Ackles’ Soldier Boy.

When the trailer for "Gen V" first dropped, social media was fluttering with inquiries regarding one specific blink-and-you'll-miss-it moment featuring what looked like a puppet slaughter. As a spin-off of "The Boys," audiences were already prepped for some serious suspension of disbelief. After all, this is a franchise where we've seen two different versions of wieners being exploded by Supes. This is all to say that the idea of a Supe having puppet powers doesn't even crack the top 10 weirdest things we've seen throughout "The Boys" universe, but anyone familiar with this world should know there's typically much more than meets the eye.
In "Gen V" episode 4, it's revealed that Sam (Asa Germann) — a Supe who has been used as a human lab rat by Vought International in a terrifying research facility (torture chamber) known as The Woods underneath Godolkin University — is plagued by visions of puppets.

This article contains spoilers for Gen V and The Boys.
With superheroes growing more and more unpredictable and volatile in the world of The Boys, it’s no surprise that Vought would be seeking new means to control them and their powers. Now that supes know that they were created with Compound V and not born with their abilities, Vought’s promises of wealth and popularity often aren’t enough to keep them in line. The Boys spinoff Gen V is not only showing us how the young supes in this world are reacting to this news, but also how Vought is adapting before they lose control entirely.
Gen V takes place between seasons 3 and 4 of The Boys, which means that every student at Godolkin University watched Homelander (Antony Starr) kill a civilian with his laser vision and still be greeted with thunderous applause. Between that and Starlight’s (Erin Moriarty) defection,...

Spoiler Alert: This article contains spoilers for Episode 5 of “Gen V,” titled “Welcome to the Monster Club,” now streaming on Prime Video.
Even superheroes can party a little too hard.
The heroes of “Gen V” wake up wondering what the hell happened last night in this latest episode, but what seems like some alcohol-induced memory loss turns out to be diabolical mind wiping. The culprit comes from within our core group of heroes, when it’s revealed that Cate (Maddie Phillips) was erasing people’s memories on Dean Shetty’s (Shelley Conn) command.
Last week’s episode ended abruptly, just as Marie (Jaz Sinclair), Emma (Lizze Broadway), Jordan (London Thor and Derek Luh), Andre (Chance Perdomo) and Cate were close to getting answers on the mysterious supe program called The Woods. But suddenly, the screen cut to black and the heroes found themselves waking up at a wild house party,...

This article contains spoilers for Gen V episode 5.
Class is in session over at Godolkin University, as Eric Kripke’s world of The Boys expands into Gen V. Based on the “We Gotta Go Now” arc of Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson’s The Boys comics, Gen V is also inspired by Marvel’s X-Men and introduces us to a young crop of wannabe supes.
We’re five episodes into Gen V season 1, and as we head into our final exams, there are enemies coming from all sides at Marie Moreau (Jaz Sinclair) and her classmates. Although we know Jensen Ackles’ Soldier Boy is on the way to cause trouble, viewers have used their Tek Knight-inspired powers of perception to sniff out another potential crossover between Gen V and its bigger brother.

Since the series premiere, something felt off about Gen V, and it was the fact that there were some things that the writers were trying to hide actively.
It didn't make for a powerful story, and getting invested in it was not the easiest thing, but luckily for them, the characters were likable.
Gen V Season 1 Episode 5 was a turning point for the show where the major secret was revealed, and everything fell into place, suddenly making the story the focal point instead of the characters.
Luke's suicide didn't make much sense. The Woods was the stuff for legends that we got little sneak peeks into but weren't entirely invested in.
It continued being a complex affair when Marie would blackout and wake up in a new environment without knowing how she got there. It was interesting, but it got old quickly because there are only so many penises you can explode for shock value.

Things are getting progressively messier at Godolkin University, where our central gang is currently the target of an ominous memory wipe in the latest episode of "Gen V." Towards the end of episode 3 of the show, the gang — Marie (Jaz Sinclair), Emma (Lizze Broadway), Andre (Chance Perdomo), Cate (Maddie Phillips), and Jordan (Derek Luh/London Thor) — bands together to prevent Sam (Asa Germann) from murdering a doctor involved in the grisly experiments in The Woods.
However, halfway through this tense confrontation, the scene cuts away to what seems like a house party, where Marie and Jordan are seen waking up together after an unknown amount of time has passed. While this fresh development births a sweet romantic dynamic, the confusing, convoluted nature of this memory gap leaves the entire group unraveling, as the rest of them...

“Gen V” executive producer Eric Kripke said the explosive death of character Luke “Golden Boy” Riordan (Patrick Schwarzenegger) was a fixed plot within the “Gen V” that never changed during the writers’ creative ideation.

“Look, just to pull back the curtain, it’s just good pilot s–t. Your job in a pilot is to blow people’s minds so they want to keep watching,” Kripke told TheWrap on Thursday in a paired interview with the series’ showrunner Michele Fazekas.
“And it’s like undeniable proof that something is really wrong here,” Fazekas added.
As Fazekas put it, there is something very wrong at Godolkin University, which viewers learn in the first episode of the series “God U.” Hidden beneath the campus and past the corridors where invisible, nude Supes walk the halls, is a dark laboratory called “The Woods.

Godolkin University, or GodU, harbors many unsavory secrets, but the most sinister cover-up so far is The Woods, an underground facility where young Supes are brutally experimented on. Even though "Gen V" has offered crumbs to help us gradually understand this covert project, there's a lot we don't comprehend yet, especially in relation to Sam (Asa Germann), who has now been rescued, thanks to Emma (Lizzy Broadway). Based on previous flashbacks and Sam's enraged outburst in the latest episode, it appears his superpower is brutal superstrength, which might have been augmented due to intense experimentation in The Woods.
Things take a darker turn when Sam is alone with Emma at the abandoned game parlor after their bloody escape from the underground facility. Having bonded with Emma, who gently assures Sam she will never abandon him, Sam is afraid of losing her.

Even if the Gen V series premiere was fast-paced, with a lot happening, the decision to introduce the season-long conflict did not turn out to be a bad one.
Gen V Season 1 Episode 2 built on the events of the series premiere and, for that reason, cemented the narrative as something worth following, even for people who weren't the biggest fans of the show based on the series premiere.
We dealt with the aftermath of Luke's suicide, as the show tried to convey what would happen when someone as important as Golden Boy leaves the picture abruptly, leaving a vast vacuum and the people who would rise to occupy that.
None of the characters on the show deserve what they have, whether good or bad.
All the powers they gained by sheer luck, but one can't deny that they've paid the price for having them, and some continue to pay that price to this day.

Plot: Set in the diabolical world of The Boys, Gen V expands the universe to Godolkin University, the prestigious superhero-only college where students train to be the next generation of heroes—preferably with lucrative endorsements. You know what happens when supes go bad, but not all superheroes start out corrupt. Beyond the typical college chaos of finding oneself and partying, these kids are facing explosive situations … literally. As the students vie for popularity and good grades, it’s clear that the stakes are much higher when super powers are involved. When the group of young supes discover that something bigger and sinister is going on at school, they’re put to the test: Will they be the heroes or the villains of their stories?
Review: The first season of The Boys was a shocking mix of superhero storytelling with a dark streak of humor that we had never seen before.

Is “The Boys” a satire of superhero franchises or a superhero franchise itself? Such is the question posed by a show that is, among other things, a cautionary tale about corporate monopoly that airs on Amazon. So far, though, the answer is both — a delicate balance “The Boys” has sustained through three acclaimed seasons, an animated anthology series and, now, a live-action spinoff, the college-set “Gen V.” The contradictions of success may eventually take their toll on the pitch-black comedy and its satellites, which portray so-called superheroes as pawns of the rapacious Vought International. But “Gen V” retains the edge, cynicism and (aptly) adolescent humor that make its parent show tick, suggesting “The Boys” is far from the creative fatigue now plaguing juggernauts like the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Amazon’s The Boys has spent three years playing a game of one-upmanship, initially taking the somewhat fatigued superhero genre out behind the woodshed with layers of corporate satire, increasingly salty and nihilistic language and tidal waves of bodily fluids.
As much as I often enjoy The Boys, once most of the competition was left in the R-rated dust, that one-upmanship frequently became self-directed, and as such, has felt like a bit of a creative dead-end. One exploding character became 15. Liters of fake blood dappling walls escalated to vats of viscera, with some sperm for good measure. The show’s ethos has always been “More, more, more,” but not always “More creative, more creative, more creative.”
With the new spinoff Gen V, The Boys is at least briefly able to take a much-needed reset, bringing in a largely new group of characters, adjusting the satirical targets, and although the new...

Hey, dude, watch this. That’s the premise of Zac Brown Band’s video for “The Woods,” a clip that collects all sorts of dumb ideas, bad accidents, and mostly avoidable mishaps.

And it only gets worse from there: there are falling pole dancers, people getting bucked off both horses and camels, snowboarders hitting trees and cars, and...

Michael J. Pollard, whose long list of acting credits stretches back to the late 1950s but likely will is best remembered for his Oscar-nominated, star-making turn as the dimwitted but lovable sidekick C.W. Moss in 1967’s Bonnie and Clyde, has died. He was 80.
His death was announced on Facebook today by filmmaker Rob Zombie, who directed Pollard in 2003’s House of 1000 Corpses. A New York Times obituary cites Pollard’s friend Dawn Walker, who says the actor died Thursday of cardiac arrest at a Los Angeles hospital.
“Another member of our House of 1000 Corpses family has left us,” Zombie wrote. “The great Michael J Pollard has died. I have been a huge fan of Michael since I first saw him on the Star Trek “Miri”. He was amazing in everything from Bonnie and Clyde to Little Fauss and Big Halsy from Dirty Little Billy to The Four of the Apocalypse.

Academy Award nominee Michael J. Pollard, known for his roles in “Bonnie and Clyde” and “House of 1000 Corpses,” has died. He was 80.
“House of 1000 Corpses” director Rob Zombie broke the news on Facebook early Friday morning.
“We have lost another member of our ‘House of 1000 Corpses’ family. I woke up to the news that Michael J. Pollard had died. I have always loved his work and his truly unique on screen presence,” Zombie said in his post. “He was one of the first actors I knew I had to work with as soon as I got my first film off the ground. He will be missed.”
Born 1939 in Passaic, N.J., Pollard attended Montclair Academy and Actors Studio in New York City in his early career. He started out in television in the late ’50s, appearing on shows like “Lost in Space” and “Star Trek,” but landed his breakout role as C.

As Poland prepares for its closeup, with the introduction of a 30% cash rebate earlier this year, the local industry is gearing up to show the world how much it has to offer. Easily accessible from anywhere in Europe, the country boasts diverse locations, highly skilled crews, and a rich movie-making tradition.
Even the lack of incentives in years past has become something of a competitive advantage. “The fact that these locations have yet to be extensively seen in international productions provides the most coveted treasure: unique, evocative locations,” says Lori Balton, of the Location Managers Guild Intl., who describes visiting fairy-book castles, Gothic churches, and Brutalist modern structures on a visit to Poland.
Poland has sandy beaches skirting the Baltic Sea in the north, as well as spectacular mountain ranges in the south. Pockets of the Polish countryside are virtually pristine. “There are still places you can go and there...

The script is based on Harlan Coben’s 2007 eponymous novel, with the writer also acting as executive producer. The Netflix show is benefiting from a Polish 30% cash rebate scheme. The protagonist of The Woods (W głebi lasu) is Warsaw-based prosecutor Paweł Kopiński (Paul Copeland in Harlan Coben’s novel), whose sister mysteriously disappeared in 1994 while at summer camp. It’s 2019 now and when the body of a young boy – who allegedly vanished 25 years ago as well, along with Kopińska – is found, it seems like the old case can be reopened and finally solved. However, the deeper Paweł digs, the more complicated things get. No surprise here: after all, the story was adapted from Coben’s book, and one of his favourite themes is the way in which unearthing past events can shatter the present. Zac Brown Band have made some head-scratching creative decisions in years past (“Beautiful Drug,” anyone?), but new song “Need This,” while a risk, isn’t one of them. Rather, it’s an undeniable banger, a well-plotted mash-up of pop, hip-hop, and rock, with Brown rapping “wake up, sun’s out, shoes off, my goodness/sippin’ seaside, I call it fitness.” As he boasts later, it’s “too much fun to quit this.” That said, fans of the group’s more country-leaning material (like “Colder Weather” and “Highway 20 Ride”) may cry foul.

Comics’ “ultimate bastich” is coming to TV.
NBCUniversal’s Syfy network said it would develop a new series featuring the DC Comics character Lobo with Warner Horizon Scripted Television. The alien bounty hunter, originally created as a spoof of ultra-violent figures from rival Marvel like Wolverine or The Punisher, makes an appearance in the second season of Syfy’s “Krypton,” which debuts Wednesday on the network. Lobo has long been portrayed as one of the strongest and most dangerous characters in the DC Universe — and one of its most foul-mouthed (“bastich” is one of the character’s favorite epithets).
Cameron Welsh, executive producer of “Krypton,” will serve as executive producer and writer of the new series. Emmett J. Scanlan plays the character in “Krypton,” and is expected to star as the character in the spin-off.
Lobo first appeared in the comics in 1983, introduced as a villain. Over time, however, he became a hero,...
