'Seoul' mates: Maverick, Rhee
Madonna and Guy Oseary's Maverick Films has acquired Forsaken Seoul with helmer Gene Rhee on board to direct. The project will be produced by Maverick principal Milton Kim along with Eric Kim of EK Films. Described as a contemporary suspense thriller set in Los Angeles and Seoul, South Korea, Forsaken follows an orphaned hit man from America in search of his long lost brother. Over time, the contract killer falls in love and gradually begins to discover a secret from his past. Rhee -- best known for his short film The Quest for Length, which screened at the 2002 Sundance Film Festival -- adapted the project from an original work by D.V. Vleck. Rhee also will receive producing credit. "Taking the remake mentality a step further, we've specifically set out to find filmmakers that have an understanding of cinema on a more global level, and this film represents a natural step in that direction," Milton Kim said. Overseeing for Maverick is senior vp Brent Emery. Maverick is in postproduction on Agent Cody Banks II and, for VH1, 30 Days Until I'm Famous.
