The scene in which an avalanche of sand covers and kills a pair of fighting Velociraptor and Protoceratops was based on a real fossil that shows the same event.
One of the first documentaries to depict small coelurosaurian dinosaurs such as raptors and oviraptorids with feathers. However we now know that they were much more feathered in real life. Instead of having scaly faces and hands with wing-feathers sticking out of their wrists, these dinosaurs had feathery heads (only their nose remained scaly), and their hands were permanently integrated into their primitive wings, with the wing-feathers lining their entire hand, specifically the line of their middle finger.
The program depicts Oviraptor as a comparatively large, fearsome predator that terrorized Velociraptor and other animals in its environment. Nowadays, Oviraptor is thought to have been mostly herbivorous and much smaller - the large Oviraptorid genus on which the show's model had been based is now considered a separate dinosaur, called Citipati.
