The Pizzaman

The story is pretty simple. Rico, a successful drug dealer, decides to throw a pizza party with a couple of his buddies, two girls, and his girlfriend Sharon. A series of killings from the psychotic, angry "Pizza Man" play at random in between periods, and eventually Rico, his friend(one is supposed to be a comedian, and is also the cowardly lion of the group), and his girl, Sharon find their friends dead, and are being hunted by the psycho disguised as a pizza man. Since it's only 48 minutes, there really isn't any build up or backstory at all. I can see a lot of people probably being turned off by that, but for me, it doesn't bug me much since usually, a lot of short films, especially the horror shorts, are like that. The lighting, however, still could've been better. It looks like it was lit with one single light with blue, sometimes red filters plastered onto it. The worst is the night vision effect they use from time to time, and when they use the night vision effect, for some reason the frame rate is lowered at maximum. There are also certain scenes where they don't use any lighting equipment at all, and the grain from the most likely VHS camera or Hi 8 camera makes it a little bit difficult to see what's going on the first couple of seconds it starts to happen. It doesn't really help that the entire film is shot at night. But for the most part, it's visible. Someone made a mention on the acting and how bad it was, in my opinion, the acting wasn't necessarily good, but it was understandable. Clearly family members and the directors frat buddies. The score (the suspensful score) was pretty good, the EQ on it could have been better though. The special effects, surprisingly, weren't bad at all. The killers design? Thumbs to the sky!

If you're into the cheesy stuff, and are into stuff like 555, Video Violence, Woodchipper Massacre, and shot on video in general, track down The Pizza Man, and give it a shot!
