The IMDb recommends "les Diaboliques" if you have enjoyed "Carte Vermeille " a suspenseful made-for-TV work, and I can only approve of their choice. Like Clouzot's work (and Alfred HItchcock's "Vertigo" ) it is based on a Pierre Boileau's
and THomas Narcejac's detective story ,one of these stories where the hero is framed up and always understands too late (when he does).Jean -Pierre Aumont and Micheline Presles, two veterans of the golden age of the French cinema are excellent in this tale of very spooky things which happen in a home for retired people .It's also a ruthless depiction of life in a place where people long for their youth gone.It recalls sometimes Duvivier' s masterful "La Fin du Jour".Not to be missed if you are a suspense buff.
