Footage was originally shot as a promotional video for "All Alone No Horse", Ritch Duncan's one man show at the 1999 New York International Fringe Festival. After shooting was completed, Ritch Duncan and director Paul Francis Sullivan agreed it would make an interesting film on its own and a year later shot additional footage to make it cut together smoothly.
