Exclusive: Daniel Gillies, known for his role in The Vampire Diaries and The Originals, has signed with Buchwald for representation.

Gillies joined the CW’s The Vampire Diaries in the second season as Elijah Mikaelson, then went on to reprise the role in all five seasons of spinoff The Originals. He also starred with Katharine McPhee in Lifetime’s original movie The Lost Wife of Robert Durst and in Canadian supernatural medical drama series Saving Hope.

Gillies can currently be seen in the Netflix series Virgin River, which has been renewed for a second season.

On the film side, Gillies will star in the New Zealand-based feature directed and written by James Ashcroft, Coming Home in the Dark, based off the award-winning short story by Owen Marshall. Gillies previous work includes Spider-Man 2, Bride & Prejudice, Captivity and Broken Kingdom.

Hulu is out with its list of everything new coming and going in March, and the new additions include the three-episode series premiere of “Little Fires Everywhere” starring Kerry Washington and Reese Witherspoon, and the premiere of the Hillary Clinton documentary “Hillary.”

Those two shows premiere March 18 and March 6, respectively. Other highlights include “Into the Dark: Crawlers,” about body-switching aliens and also out on March 6; the complete second season of “Love Island: Australia” coming March 13, and the two-episode series premiere of “Devs” starring Nick Offerman on March 6.

Movies leaving the site on March 31 include “When Harry Met Sally…,” “Precious” and “Big Fish.”

We have a list of the new Hulu movies and shows arriving in March 2020.

March sees the beginning of one of TV's more interesting experiment in 2020. Hulu's new releases for March 2020 are highlighted by the launch of the torturously-named "FX on Hulu" in which certain FX shows will premiere exclusively on Hulu.

Yes, when Disney set out up the entertainment industry, it gained more brands than it knew what to do with. And that's how you get stuff like FX on Hulu. The streaming/cable hybrid begins in earnest in March with two series, Alex Garland's sci-fi Devs and the weird Lil Dickey comedy Dave. More FX on Hulu is set to arrive in April as well.

Amazon Prime Video is out with its list of everything new coming to the streaming service in January 2020.

New Prime Original, “Troop Zero,” is out Jan. 17. It stars Viola Davis and Allison Janney and “tells the story of a misfit girl dreaming of life in outer space but living in rural 1977 Georgia. When a national competition offers her a chance at her dream, to be recorded on Nasa’s Golden Record, she recruits a makeshift troop of Birdie Scouts, forging friendships that last a lifetime and beyond,” according to Amazon.

Other Prime Originals include the five-part docuseries “Ted Bundy: Falling for a Killer,” out Jan. 31, and new standup special “Ilana Glazer: The Planet is Burning,” out Jan. 3.

Larry Cohen, a revered figure in the horror genre best known for directing such films as “It’s Alive,” “Gold Told Me To,” and “The Stuff,” has died at 77. The filmmaker began his decades-spanning career by writing for television in the 1960s, penning more than 100 episodes of crime and detective series like “The Fugitive” and “The Defenders” before helming his first feature, “Bone,” in 1972.

He jumped between horror, science fiction, and even blaxploitation over the next 30 years and 20 features before stepping behind the camera for the final time with, fittingly enough, an episode of “Masters of Horror.”

Cohen continued as a screenwriter after helming his last feature, 1996’s “Original Gangstas,” including “Phone Booth,” “Cellular,” and “Captivity.” He also wrote the script for 1988’s cult classic “Maniac Cop” and two of its sequels as well as episodes of “Columbo” and “NYPD Blue,” among many others.

Hulu has confirmed that several of its original series will be debuting new episodes on the streaming service in July, including the first season of the highly anticipated Stephen King thriller “Castle Rock” as well as season 2 of the costume drama “Harlots” and season 4 of the comedy “Casual.”

And there will also be new to Hulu seasons of some of your favorites from other networks, including season 2 of “The Strain,” season 4 of “The Vikings” and season 8 of “RuPaul’s Drag Race.” Likewise, there will be plenty of movies making their first Hulu appearances including the first five films in the “Star Trek” franchise and the Oscar-winning “Rosemary’s Baby.”

J.J. Abrams seems to have his fingers in just about everything nowadays, and here's one more thing you can add to that ever-growing list. Abrams is collaborating with B-movie icon Larry Cohen, director of It’s Alive and The Stuff. Together they are developing a fun sounding anthology series.

Cohen has written titles such as Phone Booth, Cellular, and Captivity. But, it’s Cohen’s unique horror B-movies that have the most passionate followers, Abrams being one of them.

During an interview with BrokeHorrorFan, Cohen revealed he’s finished writing a cable series for Abrams and Bad Robot:

Last year we ran a schedule of every TV/Cable network schedule we could find that could be construed as Horror or Halloween related for the month of October. Let’s just say it proved useful for our readers and even for our staff when they were looking to find something to watch, wanted to program their DVR’s or didn’t want to miss out on some great “live” Horror. Isn’t there something about having a movie fed to you on TV as opposed to watching it on Blu-ray or DVD or streaming? We may not like commercials, but the randomness that you can associate with a TV program itinerary is novel. It removes a little bit of control from the audience who is all to concerned with being in control these days (just look at the reasons behind publishing a piece like this).

Drive director Nicolas Winding Refn will be acting as producer for a prequel/remake of B-movie horror/actioner ‘Maniac Cop’ with co-producer William Lustig – the original film’s director. Lustig has also brought on board his old Maniac Cop screenwriter Larry Cohen.

Maniac Cop was a trilogy of films in the late 80′s to early 90′s which depicted a cop who was a…manic…and went around murdering people. Some other cops, good ones, worked on finding and stopping said nut job. It was all very ‘video nasties’ era kitsch. Roland Joffe looks like he's trying to get back to his roots with his new film There Be Dragons. (As an aside, who else accidentally reads that as "Randolph Jaffe" instead of "Roland Joffe"? Just me? Okay, moving on). So Joffe got Academy Award nominations for directing his first two films, The Killing Fields and The Mission. He followed those up with Super Mario Brothers. Wow. That's the kind of fact you just look at for a second, nod, and say "yeah, drugs were involved." Maybe he lost a bet. But lest you think he'd get over that speed bump, he's also the director of the abysmal Captivity of 2007.

There Be Dragons on the other hand is a historical drama, set during the Spanish Civil War and focusing on the friendship between a priest (and eventual saint) and a man who becomes a fascist spy. Here's the plot summary:

When the marketing campaign for your indie film manages to attract the attention of local politicians and news media, you know you've done something right. Cheeky billboards for the upcoming Will Ferrell / Adam McKay-produced comedy The Virginity Hit have reportedly been turning heads across the U.S., with many outraged citizens demanding that they be removed. (A similar controversy [1] erupted over billboards for the Elisha Cuthbert horror flick Captivity a few years ago.) The billboards in question advertise a toll-free help line for losing your virginity, and when the phone number is called, a pre-recorded message from the cast members offers humourous advice before directing callers to the movie's website. Pretty clever, right? The movie is about a group of friends who try to help their shy buddy get laid while documenting the whole thing on camera. It's written and directed by the same guys who wrote The Last Exorcism.

Liv Tyler and Patrick Wilson have been cast in the suspense film "The Ledge" from first-time writer-director Matthew Chapman.

The actors join Terrence Howard and Charlie Hunnam in the story of a man (Hunnam) standing on a high-rise ledge who insists he must jump by noon as the policeman below (Howard) tries to manage the situation.

The film, which is being produced by Michael Mailer ("Loverboy") and Mark Damon ("Monster"), began shooting Monday in Baton Rouge, La.

Executive producers include Howard, Moshe Diamant, Bobby Ranghelov and Tamara Stuparich De La Barra.

" 'The Ledge' examines the different and sometimes dangerous beliefs people adopt as a means of surviving emotional trauma," Chapman said.

Colin and Greg Strause (Aliens vs Predator: Requiem) are returning to the horror genre with Skyline, a new supernatural thriller now in production. There are were no details (check 'em below), but Production Weekly reports that Kate Mara (Iron Man 2, Brokeback Mountain), Eric Balfour (The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Horsemen, Hell Ride, "Six Feet Under") and Laz Alonso (Straw Dogs, Avatar, Captivity) have all joined the cast. After a late night party, a group of friends are awoken in the dead of the night by an eerie light beaming through the window. Like moths to a flame, the light source is drawing people outside before they suddenly vanish into the air. They soon discover an otherwordly force is swallowing the entire human population off the face of the earth. Now our band of survivors must fight for their lives as the world unravels around them.

Kill Theory joins as #8 in the After Dark Horrorfest: 8 Films to Die For® line-up

Jill Gatsby, daughter of cult filmmaker Larry Cohen (The Stuff, Maniac Cop II) is trying her hand at directing and writing a feature horror film, in which she will also star!

The Torture of Delva Mills is in production and we should expect to see it out in 2010. In 2005, Jill directed Xis, a terrifying short horror film about a serial killer and his victims, and she co-produced the horror movie Captivity in 2007.

Today we have the restricted DVD trailer for the upcoming remake of the 1970s horror film "It's Alive," which hits stores on October 6th in both rated and unrated edition. Plot: When a Lenore learns that she is pregnant, she leaves graduate school to set up a home with her boyfriend in the country. The fate of the happy new family takes a gruesome turn when animals and people end up brutally dead . all with a strange connection to their newborn. The new movie is directed by Josef Rusnak (The Thirteenth Floor) and written by Larry Cohen (Phone Booth, Captivity). It stars Bijou Phillips (Hostel: Part II) as the mother. • The extremely popular traveling roadshow of horror films has just divulged the first title to join the 2010 line-up. After Dark Films announced that Brian Pulido's The Graves will be one of the lucky eight in Horrorfest: 8 Films to Die For 4, which has found its niche releasing dates to be the best around not Halloween, but the end of January, beginning of February timeframe. Previous editions have included Sean Ellis's The Broken (III) and Frontier(s) Xavier Gens (II), and the label has in turn individually released An American Haunting and Roland Joffe's Captivity.  In what seems to be a good old-fashioned, low budget horror genre (see clip here), The Graves is about two inseparable sisters, Megan and Abby Graves, are taking one last wild road trip before Megan has to start a new job. The journey includes a trip through remote Arizona in search of a kitchy roadside attraction.

According to HorrorMovies.ca (but unconfirmed): "Producers Brian Yuzna (the original Re-Animator) and Ray Haboush (The Last House of the Left) have confirmed in an exclusive interview [with] Spanish magazine 'Fotogramas' that they are going ahead with the remake of Re-Animator. The remake will be shot entirely in Spain and will start as early as next summer!"

Other details include the news that what we'll be seeing isn't a "new chapter" but rather a true remake of the original, and yes, Jeffrey Combs will have a small part. So, if Jeffrey isn't reprising the role of Dr. West, who can we expect to see don the white lab coat? None other than Ezra Godden, whose name might not be all that familiar but surely the face is.

Elisha Cuthbert is confirmed to reprise her old role as Kim Beau in Fox's action drama television series entitled "24". Michael Ausiello recently says, "Cuthbert has inked a deal to reprise her role as Jack's lightning rod of an offspring for a season-ending arc that will no doubt trigger a new round of wholly outdated and painfully unfunny cougar jokes."

Elisha is indeed set to appear at the end of the season, which shows that the fictional character Kim will return without her old boyfriend C. Thomas Howell by her side as their relationship has ended. Instead of having a new lover, Kim will bear a child. The seventh season will begin in January 2009.

Like a cat with nine lives, Halloween pounced on the North American boxoffice during the Labor Day weekend, taking in an estimated $31 million that set a record for the four-day holiday frame. Director Rob Zombie's remake of John Carpenter's classic 1978 slasher movie might have been the eighth film spun off from the original, but it capped off a heated moviegoing season that saw the summer 2007 boxoffice set a record with $4.3 billion, according to estimates by The Hollywood Reporter.

Weekend moviegoers also sampled the martial arts comedy Balls of Fury, which ranked third for the four days with an estimated $13.8 million. But they mostly ignored the revenge thriller Death Sentence, which scrounged up only an estimated $5.2 million as it entered the market in eighth place.

The top 10 films for the weekend grossed an estimated $112.7 million, up 26% compared with the $89.2 million that the top 10 earned during the same frame a year ago, according to Nielsen EDI. The weekend also set a boxoffice record for the holiday.

With its estimated $4.3 billion haul, summer 2007 supplants summer 2004 ($4 billion) as the top grosser in Hollywood history, though with estimated admissions hitting 631.4 million, this year will fall short of the record 668.1 million admissions set in summer 2002.

Halloween, an MGM release of a Dimension Films title, earned its Labor Day weekend record by easily topping 20th Century Fox's actioner Transporter 2, which set its mark by grossing $20.1 million during the four-day frame in 2005. It also surpassed the top gross on a Labor Day weekend, which The Sixth Sense established in 1999 when it collected $29.3 million in its fifth weekend.

Bowing in 3,472 theaters, where it earned a per-theater average of $8,932, Halloween enjoyed the widest opening ever for an R-rated horror movie as well as the widest opening ever for the new MGM, which notched its first No. 1 opening in the weekend heats.

Although commentators were writing off the R-rated horror genre this summer after disappointing returns for Hostel: Part II ($17.6 million total gross) and Captivity ($2.6 million), Halloween played like an injection of fresh blood.

NEW YORK -- A lot of horrific things happen in Saw 4, uh, I mean, Captivity, the new horror flick about a supermodel being terrorized and tortured by a mysterious assailant. The female victim is drugged, gassed, nearly buried alive, forced to shoot her own dog, fed a smoothie consisting of human body parts and, worst of all, made to watch her own media coverage. But for sheer horror, these things pale in comparison to the mostly solitary men in attendance at an early show at a 42nd Street theater, intently staring at the screen as if they were watching a motivational training film as well as the film's end credit (A Roland Joffe film).

What made the esteemed director of The Killing Fields and The Mission stoop to this is anybody's guess. According to a production insider, the film originally was conceived as a dark psychological thriller, but was sent back for reshoots to make it more of a torture porn genre exercise. Considering the recent wan commercial reception for Hostel: Part II, that might have been a miscalculation.

In any case, the end result doesn't even satisfy on its own sleazy terms. Not only does it lack the satirical nihilism of the Hostel films or the admittedly clever torture machinations of the "Saw" series, it doesn't even provide its target young male audience with the requisite nudity.

Elisha Cuthbert, in only marginally more danger here than she was as Jack Bauer's perpetually unlucky daughter on Fox's "24," stars as Jennifer, a Manhattan supermodel who has her apple martini spiked one night while out clubbing. Waking up in a dark dungeon, she is subjected to a series of increasingly elaborate mind games exploiting the fears she has expressed in interviews. Just as she's about to go over the edge, she discovers a fellow prisoner, Gary (Daniel Gillies), a young man who actually matches her in the hotness department. Terror being a natural aphrodisiac, it isn't long before these two crazy kids wind up between the sheets.

Relatively straightforward up to that point, Larry Cohen and Joseph Tura's screenplay thereafter introduces twisty plot developments, but it's too little, too late.

Shot in a Moscow studio by a mostly Russian crew, the film compares well to similar genre films in all technical departments. It bears no visual indication of slumming on the part of its esteemed director, and Marco Beltrami's musical score is typically first rate. But it's a sad state of affairs when one of our most talented filmmakers is reduced to this level.

With a few shakes of its magic wand, Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix mesmerized the North American boxoffice during the weekend: The PG-13 Warner Bros. Pictures release, playing in a super-wide 4,285 theaters, summoned up an estimated $77.4 million. Since its Wednesday opening, it has levitated to a five-day total of an estimated $140 million.

On the opposite end of the spectrum, After Dark Films' R-rated torture tale Captivity barely set off any goose bumps. Playing in 1,050 theaters, the film, directed by Roland Joffe, eeked out an estimated $1.6 million, finishing in 12th place overall.

With Transformers and Ratatouille doing business in the face of the Phoenix juggernaut, the weekend's top 10 films grossed an estimated $167.9 million. According to Nielsen EDI, that represents a 14% increase over the comparable weekend a year ago, when Buena Vista Pictures' Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest reigned with $62.3 million in its second weekend, and the comedies Little Man, from Sony Pictures, and You, Me and Dupree, from Universal Pictures, entered the market in the second and third spots with $21.6 million and $21.5 million, respectively.

While muggles of the world await the immanent arrival of the seventh and final volume in author J.K. Rowling's series, Pottermania isn't waning as far as the movie versions are concerned. Although Phoenix didn't post the biggest three-day number of the series -- by bowing on a Wednesday, it lured in some of its most hardcore fans before the weekend began -- it did rack up the biggest five-day gross the franchise has seen to date and is on track to score the biggest first week of the bunch.

Based on the five-day total of $140 million, Warners is projecting a first-week take of $162 million. Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone, the first film in the series, registered a first week of $129 million in 2001. The subsequent installments have done first weeks of $106 million, $123 million and $146 million, respectively.

Phoenix, directed by David Yates from a screenplay by Michael Goldbenberg, appears to have benefited from its midsummer opening. The previous films mostly debuted on a Friday in November, the exception being Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, which launched on June 4, 2004, before all schools were out for the summer.

"Certainly, our Wednesday opening was a great move," Warners domestic distribution president Dan Fellman said. "We've never had the ability before to open a 'Potter' movie when all the kids were out of school."...

Warner Bros. Pictures' Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix worked its magic at the boxoffice Wednesday.

The fifth feature in the franchise, which bowed in 4,181 theaters, took in an estimated $44.23 million at the North American boxoffice for the day, including $12 million from midnight screenings. That earned the movie the title of biggest Wednesday opening ever, trumping the previous record-holder, Sony Pictures' Spider-Man 2, which bowed to a single-day gross of $40.4 million in 2004.

The Phoenix opening also bested the $40.1 million first-day gross of 2005's Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, the previous best first-day gross for any of the Potter movies, though in that case opening day was a Friday. Phoenix also notched the biggest IMAX opening ever, pulling in $1.9 million on 90 screens in North America.

On the international front, the movie's Wednesday bow grossed another $29.2 million from 29 countries.

There will be no cliffhanger this coming weekend. Phoenix, which will be installed in 4,285 theaters -- Warners' widest opening ever -- is destined to dominate the frame, and no other wide release except for the R-rated Captivity, playing in a far more limited 1,050 locations, is looking to stake out a fresh position in the marketplace.

The only question surrounding Phoenix, as it was with last weekend's chart-topper Transformers, is how big it will be.

With its PG-13 rating, Phoenix, directed by David Yates and adapted for the screen by Michael Goldenberg, reflects author J.K. Rowling's book series in that its atmosphere is darker and the gathering forces of the evil Lord Voldemort (a proboscis-free Ralph Fiennes) are growing ever more threatening. So this time out, Harry might not attract some of the youngest moviegoers.

Actress Elisha Cuthbert is backing plans for a film version of the hit TV show 24, but only if her character plays a bigger part. The Captivity star currently plays Kim Bauer, daughter of Kiefer Sutherland's agent Jack Bauer of the Counter Terrorist Unit in Los Angeles, and is keen to reprise the role on the big screen. However, she's convinced the movie would be much better if producers let her share some of the action with her busy on-screen dad. She says, "There's definitely room for (a movie). But it depends on whether or not Kiefer can take it any more! The poor guy's been hacking away at Jack Bauer for years. If he's into it, it'll be great, because everything he does is awesome. People love to watch my character Kim, but she's also a bit of a spanner in the works and I wouldn't want her to be that. Three years ago I wanted her to be Jack's partner and kick a**, but to the producers it was like, 'We've got to be realistic about this.' But if the movie comes round and it works to have her there, then I'd love to play her again."...
