Travis and Sosie Bacon are about to be one degree of separation away from their father.
Spouses Kevin Bacon and Kyra Sedgwick are set to direct themselves and their children in a horror comedy for Dark Castle Entertainment that’s being shopped to buyers at the American Film Market event, according to Variety.
The film, accurately and amusingly titled “Family Movie,” is about a family of horror filmmakers whose latest low-budget project spirals out of control when a dead body is discovered on set. But the show must go on, and the only way to save the movie is to cover up the murder and keep going, by any means necessary. “Premature” writer-director Dan Beers wrote the script, and the Bacons are producing along with Dark Castle’s Norman Golightly.

Kyra Sedgwick and Kevin Bacon are taking the title of their next film to heart. They’re set to direct the horror-comedy project “Family Movie” and star alongside their children, Travis and Sosie Bacon.
The foursome will produce for Mixed Breed Films alongside Norman Golightly at Dark Castle Entertainment. Neon International will represent the foreign rights and introduce it at AFM this week while CAA Media Finance will represent the U.S. rights.
The film, based on a screenplay by Dan Beers (“Premature”), follows an eclectic but tight-knit family of filmmakers who suddenly find themselves in a real-life horror movie when a body turns up on the set of their latest low-budget slasher. As the production spirals comically out of control, they realize the only solution to keep filming is to cover up the murder, by any means necessary.

Deep in an Oregon woodland lies a remote cabin, home to a solitary man who prefers isolation to company. One snowy day, through the bare trees, he makes a discovery that will alter his solitary ways—a young girl, unconscious in the forest. Thus begins the story of To Kill a Wolf, director Kelsey Taylor’s introspective retelling of Little Red Riding Hood.
Wrapped in the melancholy tones of folk music, Taylor explores complex human emotions beneath the fable’s familiar surfaces. The Woodsman, as our reclusive hero is known, nurses Dani back to health yet remains wary of entanglements. Both harbor private pains and choose solitude as refuge. Their developing friendship feels hard-won against such guarded instincts.
Through nonlinear flashbacks, we learn what drove each to seek solace in the woods. And their tales, when revealed, surprise far more than any wolf encounter ever could. With compassion for troubled souls,...

No idea or character is too old for Hollywood to recycle. According to the Hollywood Reporter, Amazon Studios will be developing a new film based on Medusa, one of the most famous monsters of Greek mythology. One of three sisters known as the Gorgons, Medusa is famous for her hair made of snakes and piercing gaze: anyone who looks her in the eyes turns to stone.
Described as a "modern take" on the character, it seems the film will ditch ancient Greece for a more contemporary setting. "Medusa" will be an action-adventure movie, with the titular character as the unlikely hero. With the movie so early in pre-production, there's no word on who will be the star; the makers probably don't even know yet. However, THR was able to share who some of the talent working behind the scenes are.

Nicole Kassell is slated to direct this "Medusa" project.

Since shooting to fame in 1984’s Footloose, Bacon has become one of Hollywood’s most prolific actors. Now’s your chance to grill him
Everybody loves the smell of Kevin Bacon in the morning – or at any point during the day or night. Hollywood’s enduringly boyish 64-year-old actor/dancer/mobile phone network salesman shot to fame in 1984’s Footloose, after smaller roles in Animal House, Friday the 13th and Diner.
It was a breakthrough that hobbled – until he learned not to accept any role pitched as perfect for him. Cue a career of shifty and charming brilliance, from the salty sex worker in Oliver Stone’s JFK to the smug attorney in A Few Good Men to the stricken paedophile in The Woodsman.

Shuichi Okita, with a very personal style, delicate but assertive at the same time, has been able to make himself known and appreciated in the circuits of festivals and in less mainstream circles with films that are difficult to label, often defined as “dramedy” that is a mixture of drama and comedy. Like in “The Woodsman and The Rain”, “The Chef of South Polar” and “Mori: The Artist’s Habitat”, the backdrop of “The Mohican Comes Home” is also a small community on an imaginary island in the Soto Inland Sea, off the coast of Hiroshima, where Okita places one of his typical characters, always dazed and looking out of place.

Hollywood is full of filmmaking collectives — camps of creative people who met at the bottom and carry each other, hopefully, to great heights.
Particularly sacred (and occasionally fraught) is the relationship between producer and director, a delicate balance of trust and honesty. Approaching nearly 20 years in that dynamic are Oscar nominee Lee Daniels and producer Tucker Tooley.
Having met in the early aughts, the pair just released the Golden Globe-winning “The United States vs. Billie Holiday” at Hulu, and is prepping for the April 2 release of the TIFF player “Concrete Cowboy” with Idris Elba at Netflix.
While studio jobs and streaming riches have come to them more recently, they met as fringe players trying to make a film about the life of actor Montgomery Clift, which never materialized. That led to Daniels’ 2005 directorial debut “Shadowboxer,” starring Cuba Gooding Jr. and Helen Mirren.

Nicole Kassell (“Watchmen”) is directing the film, an adaptation of L. Frank Baum’s beloved book “The Wonderful Wizard of Oz.” Baum’s story has been retold on the big and small screen many times over the years; the most memorable being the classic 1939 musical starring Judy Garland.

Slamdance has awarded its grand prize for screenwriting to writer Joyce Sherrí for her first feature screenplay for coming-of-age drama “Sweet Sixteen.”

“Sweet Sixteen” centers on Sweet, a 15-year-old girl who tries to convince her parents to throw her a big sweet 16 birthday party, but money and family problems lead her down a destructive path.
“Black people are not a monolith then neither are our experiences,” said Sherrí. “There is more to us than racial trauma. Sometimes we just want something as simple as a first kiss or a sweet sixteenth birthday party. I wrote ‘Sweet Sixteen’ because I want to share a story that explores a...

The HBO limited series inspired by Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons’ DC graphic novel thrusts us into the 1921 Tulsa massacre, which is known as the single worst incident of racial violence in U.S history.
It is the moment from which series creator Damon Lindelof builds his expansion of the Watchmen universe, in which we meet Angela Abar aka Sister Knight (limited series lead actress Emmy nominee Regina King), a former police officer turned vigilante in current day who ultimately meets the grandfather she never knew, Will Reeves. He’s just hung Angela’s boss, local police chief Judd Crawford (Don Johnson) who apparently has a white supremacist history, literally in his closet.
Watchmen takes place in a world where the cops are squaring off against white supremacists who’ve infiltrated the government.

Kevin Bacon has had a long and illustrious career. While many know him from such popular films like Footloose, Tremors, Apollo 13 or Mystic River, he actually got his start in the industry in a pair of teen movies.
It was sort of a rite of passage for every young actor in the late ‘70s and early ‘80s to begin their career in either a raunchy teen comedy or a horror film. For Bacon, he got both. First there was National Lampoon’s Animal House and then Friday the 13th. In the slasher movie, he played Jack, a young heartthrob whose untimely demise comes at the hands of Jason Voorhees’ mother.
For such a thankless role, you’d think fans wouldn’t remember it considering Bacon’s long acting resume. A resume that’s so long, a game was even created connecting his career to everyone else’s. But according to the man himself,...

Welcome back to Let’s Scare Bryan to Death, where this month we’re talking to Nolan McBride, founder of the Dead Ringers podcast. On Dead Ringers, McBride brings together a panel of co-hosts to dissect “horror movie double features that share similar DNA, yet still have distinct personalities.” Past pairings have included May/Eyes Without a Face, Starry Eyes/The Neon Demon, Halloween/The Terminator, and other films that have some similar narrative elements, but take very different approaches to their respective material (they had a particularly charismatic guest for an episode that covered Bug/A Dark Song).
For our discussion, McBride nominated Taneli Mustonen’s 2016 slasher movie Lake Bodom. The film follows four teens as they return to the site of the real-life 1960 Lake Bodom murders, where a group of campers were brutally attacked, leaving only one survivor. Atte (Santeri Helinheimo Mäntylä) and Elias (Mikael Gabriel) seem obsessed...

Nicole Kassell may not be the first director you’d think of to helm the first two episodes of the HBO series “Watchmen,” but that’s probably why she was the right choice. Best known on the film side for her directorial debut, 2004’s “The Woodsman,” she has a long list of impressive television credits since including “The Americans,” “Rectify,” “Westworld” and “The Leftovers.” The latter forged a creative bond with Damon Lindelof, who is the maestro behind this contemporary sequel to the highly acclaimed Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons graphic novel.

Slamdance has awarded its grand prize for screenwriting to Tamra Teig and Michael Lipoma for their feature screenplay “The Fall.”
The festival announced a dozen prizes Thursday night during a ceremony hosted by Writers Guild of America West across feature film, horror/thriller, TV pilot and short film categories. Slamdance awarded more than $16,000 to winners across all categories.
“The Fall” is a historical drama set in East Berlin in 1989, where a single mother is forced to become a spy to save her son after he’s framed for murder. Her act of revenge, woven into historic events, leads to the fall of the Berlin Wall.
“With over 4,200 submissions this year, our judges were challenged by a wealth of exciting new writers to choose from,” said Slamdance president Peter Baxter. “Many plugged into the passion and concern around socially conscious themes our world is currently dealing with in raw, fun and unique ways.

The first teaser trailer for Todd Phillips’ Joker confirms that this will be a very different DC film.
Warner Bros.' forthcoming Joker origin tale has been a very weird project from the get-go, but that approach has served in its favor when it comes to audience expectation levels. The last two big-screen iterations of the Clown Prince of Crime were like chalk and cheese - Heath Ledger's phenomenal portrayal of the character in Christopher Nolan's The Dark Knight blew everyone away, whereas Jared Leto's tattooed Suicide Squad villain ...er, didn't.
The Hangover director Todd Phillips was certainly an interesting choice to helm the project, but he's been frustrated by the lack of accuracy in the coverage of his Joker solo outing so far, which he concedes is to be expected “when you set out to make an origin story about a...

Brian A. Kates‘s main focus when editing the pilot for “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel” was on “not screwing up what was given to me.” Creators Amy Sherman-Palladino and Daniel Palladino have “a very strong sensibility, sense of style, [and] sense of musicality,” all of which needed to be conveyed in the premiere episode. Kates pulled off the task and scored an Emmy nomination for Best Picture Editing (Single-Camera Comedy) for the Amazon series. It was one of 14 overall bids the freshman show received. Watch our exclusive video interview with Kates above.

Looking for a film to watch, that you might not have considered before? Try some of these...
This article comes from Den of Geek UK.
Sometimes, we figure, you come to a site like this just to find out about a film you didn’t know about; that you want recommendations of movies that you might not otherwise have uncovered. This list, then, has no theme, save that the films on it are really good, and didn’t get much of an audience first time around.
That, or they seem to have been forgotten. It’s a real mix, but hopefully, there’s something on here that appeals...
The Brady Bunch Movie
No foreknowledge of the series is required, and the first movie takes the Brady film and transplants them into the 1990s, with no change made to them at all. It makes for quite brilliant comedy,...

The end is finally upon us. “The Leftovers” airs its final episode this Sunday on HBO, and with it comes the close of one of television’s all-time great drama series. Over the course of its three-season run, “The Leftovers” has earned acclaim for Damon Lindelof and Tom Perrotta, as well as the ensemble cast, but it would be a shame to say goodbye to this series without spotlighting the men and women behind the camera.
“The Leftovers” and its point-of-view storytelling always allowed different directors to leave their mark on the series. Through memorable sequences and shots, these seven directors made “The Leftovers” an emotionally visceral and downright spiritual experience. It’s safe to say there won’t be another series like it for some time, but television is in good hands as long as these filmmakers are guiding it.

“What if we all started writing you letters?”
So states Chris Kraus, played by the extraordinary Kathryn Hahn in “I Love Dick,” the new Amazon comedy from Sarah Gubbins and Jill Soloway about a woman who movies to Marfa, Texas, and falls head over high heels for a local artist named Dick (Kevin Bacon). Her infatuation is evident immediately and explored thoroughly in the eight-episode first season, as Chris, Dick, and her husband, Sylvere (Griffin Dunne) — yup, she’s married — enter into a sexually charged emotional gambit none of them fully understand.

Everyone loves Kevin Bacon. At the very least, everyone loves at least one film or TV show the extremely prolific actor has appeared in over the past few decades. Having just finished a three-season run on Fox's "The Following," Bacon's next big film appearances include "Cop Car" (which premiered at Sundance in January) and the Ridley Scott's "Black Mass" alongside Johnny Depp (which is set for a September release). And who can forget the "Wake up to Eggs with Bacon" commercials, arguably his greatest role to date? In an interview with Sam Jones, though, Bacon plays the role of himself — 98 percent of the time. He discusses everything from the moment he realized his true calling as an actor to the strange interaction he had with a fan on the beach (complete with an impression) that resulted in finding an incredible script. Though unnamed, the Oscar-caliber screenplay turned out to be "The Woodsman,...

When it comes to appearing on Empire, there seems to be one common thread: Lee Daniels. The director, who helped creator Fox’s hit new series with writer/actor Danny Strong, comes from a critically acclaimed film background. Both Terrence Howard (Lucious Lyon) and Gabourey Sidibe (Becky Williams) earned Oscar recognition thanks to Daniels work behind the camera.
Daniels has worked with an impressive pool of actors, which includes everyone from Dame Helen Mirren to Sean “P. Diddy” Combs. While we’d never expect to see Mirren on the show -- though it would be delightful if she made a voice cameo like she did on Glee -- we do love the idea of Combs getting back into acting, Nicole Kidman returning to her camp days, or even Zac Efron revisiting the musical world that first made him a star.

With the 2015 Oscars coming up this weekend, we go back ten years to see if the 2005 awards still hold up today...
It was during an interview with Mark Kermode that I asked him how long someone really needs to gestate on a film, and come up with a proper review. "About ten years", he said. I get his point. Each awards season, it's about, at best, what feels like the best film right then. Not the one that settles over a period of time, or shows you new things each time you watch it. But the one that you watched once, and affected you once. It's the only way, anyway, I can think of why A Beautiful Mind won a Best Picture Oscar.
This weekend, then, is the Academy Awards once more. And I thought it'd be worth rewinding ten years, to see whether the Academy's choices on February 27th...

It may not be widely-known that music mogul, and all-around businessman, Damon Dash, is also very active in the movie business, as an actor, director, and producer. He's produced or executive produced a few Lee Daniels-stamped films ("Shadowboxer," "The Woodsman," and "Tennessee"), and even has 4 feature film directing credits to his name, including "Paper Soldiers" and "State Property 2." Most recently, the Roc-a-Fella Records co-founder has been in the news thanks to his lawsuit against Lee Daniels, over the filmmaker's work on such films as "The Butler," "Precious," "The Paperboy," as well as the...

The Film Independent Forum held October 24 – 26 in Los Angeles focused heavily on beginnings and endings of the filmmaking process, largely leaving technical details and production needs aside. The panelists agreed: a successful film requires beginning with the end in mind. What is your film about, and who is your audience? How can you start building your audience at the ideas phase, and how can you continue to engage that audience throughout the process of making and distributing your film? In developing a project, producer Lisa Cortés (Precious, The Woodsman) said it’s important for producers to ask themselves, […]...
