In an interesting bit of remake news, a 2006 film that was produced by horror icon Wes Craven will be remade for a new horror reimagining. The Breed starred Fast & Furious family member Michelle Rodriguez and Oliver Hudson. Variety reports that director brothers Sean and Bryan Furst will be sitting in the director seats for the new incarnation, which has been described as an “unconventional reimagining of the Wes Craven cult classic.” The brothers will produce the horror film together through their company, Curmudgeon Films.

Exclusive: Richard Shepard has signed with Tfc. The move reunites the Emmy and DGA Award-winning director-writer with former WME partner David Stone who founded the management company in 2020 with UTA’s Ben Jacobson.

Pierce Brosnan has signed to star in the romantic thriller In The Wind, from Uri Singer’s Passage Pictures.

The production is the feature directorial debut of Simon Barry, whose previous credits inlclude creator and showrunner on Netflix fantasy show Warrior Nun as well as Syfy show Ghost Wars.

The film, originally announced A Spy’s Guide To Survival, centers around a reclusive, retired spy who is brought out of hiding by his enigmatic new neighbor, digging up both of their secrets in the process.

Barry also takes writer credits for the screenplay, which is based on a story by his father Derek Barry.

The agreement adds several premium projects in Europe, Latin America and Africa to the development slate for Miramax TV, whose current international series include the upcoming Guy Ritchie-helmed The Gentlemen, commissioned out of Netflix UK. Rebel Wilson is getting ready to serve as the star of “Double Fault,” a tennis comedy in development at Paramount Players.

Jim and Brian Kehoe, the brothers who wrote the 2019 high school comedy “Blockers,” are in talks to pen the screenplay. The logline is being kept under wraps.

“Double Fault” will be produced by Wilson and Todd Garner (“Senior Year”), with Brad Jenkel (“The Matador”) on board as executive producer.

Wilson recently starred in Netflix’s teen comedy “Senior Year,” in which she played a 37-year-old who wakes up from a coma and returns to high school to get her diploma.

In Variety’s review of “Senior Year,” Dennis Harvey praised Wilson as “a naturally gifted comedian” who pulls together the movie “through sheer force of personality and riffing performance chops.”

Prior to “Senior Year,” Wilson hadn’t starred in a movie since 2019’s “Isn’t It Romantic,” a romantic comedy that parodies stereotypical Hollywood meet-cutes.

Skybound Entertainment and Sony Pictures Television’s Skybound Galactic joint venture have partnered with Italy’s Fabula to produce an Italian-language TV series adaptation of the Skybound/Image comic book “Clone.”

The young Italian screenwriters’ collective known as Grams, which wrote Netflix Italian original “Baby,” will adapt and showrun the live action series.

The comic book, created by David Schulner, follows Luke Taylor, whose life is interrupted when an identical, bloodied version of himself shows up at his home. The clone informs Luke that he’s one of a batch of clones who are all out to capture his pregnant wife and their unborn child.

Writing team Grams comprises Antonio Le Fosse, Eleonora Trucchi, Marco Raspanti, Giacomo Mazzariol and Romulo Emmanuel Salvador, who also worked on “Baby” with Fabula, the expanding Rome-based company headed by Nicola De Angelis and controlled by France’s Federation Entertainment.

“The Last of Us” series adaptation at HBO has added Gabriel Luna to its cast, Variety has learned.

Luna joins previously announced series leads Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey, who will star as Joel and Ellie respectively. Luna will star as Tommy, Joel’s younger brother, a former soldier who hasn’t lost his sense of idealism and hope for a better world.

“The Last of Us” series was first announced as being in development at the premium cabler last March, with the show landing a formal series order in November. Based on the video game of the same name, the series takes place twenty years after modern civilization has been destroyed. Joel, a hardened survivor, is hired to smuggle Ellie out of an oppressive quarantine zone. What starts as a small job soon becomes a brutal, heartbreaking journey, as they both must traverse across the U.S. and depend on each other for survival.

Pierce Brosnan is taking on his first role as a superhero. The actor has been cast as Dr. Fate in DC and New Line’s “Black Adam” alongside Dwayne Johnson, who is playing the titular role.

Dr. Fate, also known as Kent Nelson, is a founding member of the Justice Society who gains superpowers through putting on the magical Helmet of Fate. The casting of Brosnan completes the lineup for the Justice Society of America, with Aldis Hodge playing Hawkman, Noah Centineo as Atom Smasher and Quintessa Swindell taking on Cyclone.

“Black Adam” follows the story of the anti-hero of the same name, played by Johnson. The character of Black Adam first appeared in DC Comics in the 1940s as a power-corrupt villain, and slowly became an anti-hero by the 2000s, known for his disregard of rules and conventions.

“Black Adam” is directed by Jaume Collet-Serra, who also directed Johnson in Disney’s “Jungle Cruise.

Robert Rodriguez only ended up directing an episode of The Mandalorian as a favor to his longtime close friend Jon Favreau after the original choice to tackle “The Tragedy” dropped out, but the Desperado filmmaker delivered one of the show’s best ever outings as well as the single most action-packed one, receiving rave reviews for his work in the process.

Isabella Gomez is set to lead the “Head of the Class” reboot pilot currently in the works at HBO Max, Variety has confirmed.

News of Gomez’s casting comes just one day after it was announced that “One Day at a Time” had been canceled for a second time. Gomez has starred on the show throughout its four season run.

The new version of “Head of the Class” is about a group of overachieving high school students who meet their greatest challenge — a teacher (Gomez) who wants them to focus less on grades and more on experiencing life.

It’s punishment more than practice that makes “The Perfection,” which is less a horror film per se than a grisly yet upscale grand guignol melodrama. Richard Shepard’s very tricky suspense film, co-written with the TV writing-producing team of Eric Charmelo and Nicole Snyder, has been a success for Netflix. The streaming service released the film earlier this year, picking it up after it made a stir at Fantastic Fest 2018.

The tale of classical musicianship and elaborate revenge is easier to admire than actually like, given somewhat repellent content grounded in character psychology that does not bear close scrutiny after these terse 90 minutes are over. Still, the icily well-crafted gamesmanship Shepard and company have devised certainly makes that time pass quickly, if uncomfortably.

The director has turned mostly to small-screen work since his last theatrical feature, “Dom Hemingway” (2013), including a dozen episodes of “Girls,” whose Allison Williams plays the lead here.

The Hollywood Foreign Press Association has selected Dylan and Paris Brosnan as the Golden Globe Ambassadors for the 2020 Golden Globe Awards season. Dylan and Paris are the sons of two-time Golden Globe Award nominee Pierce Brosnan and filmmaker and environmentalist Keely Shaye Brosnan.

Their father is best known for portraying super spy James Bond in four films. He has earned two Golden Globe Award nominations: one in 1982 for the TV miniseries Nancy Astor, and one in 2005 for the dark comedy The Matador. Most recently, the elder Brosnan starred as the lead in the AMC series “The Son.” He also had a memorable turn in the “Mamma Mia” movies.

The brothers will assist with the distribution of statues during the 77th Annual Golden Globe Awards. Trisha Yearwood is enjoying her biggest hit in years with the lead single and title track from her new album, Every Girl, recently debuting at Number 21 on the country airplay chart. But there’s another song on the album, out Friday, that proves Yearwood’s creative instincts are still just as keen as her ability to deliver a hit song.

Written by Gretchen Peters (“Independence Day”), “The Matador” paints a picture of a woman forced to share her love for a bullfighter with the adoring crowd and the pull of the arena.

David Dobkin’s Netflix comedy Eurovision about the famed global singing competition has added Pierce Brosnan. The pic reunites Dobkin with Wedding Crashers thespians Will Ferrell and Rachel McAdams, all of whom have been previously announced, who’ll play struggling Icelandic musicians Lars Erickssong and Sigrit Ericksdottir.

The UCLA School of Theater, Film and Television’s Class of 2019 is set for a Bond hearing this week: 007 alum Pierce Brosnan will deliver its 72nd annual commencement address Friday at Royce Hall.

The university also will bestow its Distinguished Alumni Award upon Star Trek original George Takei and Daughters of the Dust director Julie Dash (Class of ’85).

“We are delighted to welcome Pierce Brosnan, Julie Dash and George Takei as our 2019 Commencement Speaker and the recipients of our UCLA Tft 2019 Distinguished Alumni awards, respectively,” Schwartz says. “For Pierce Brosnan, his outstanding work as an actor in so many great films has inspired audiences worldwide. Just as important, Pierce’s tireless dedication as an environmental and social impact activist has informed and galvanized people to action around the globe.”

Brosnan is a two-time Golden Globe nominee who played British superspy James Bond in four movies from 1995-2002, along with starring is such features as The November Man, The Matador, The Thomas Crown Affair and Mamma Mia! He also fronted TV dramas The Son and Remington Steele.

Netflix rarely gives out data regarding the amount of people streaming their original content (and when the do they are not to be trusted), so most of the time deciding whether or not a Netflix original project is a hit comes down to the film’s dominance in generating social media buzz. Before Netflix announced its Sandra Bullock thriller “Birdbox” earned 45 million views in seven days, many had suspected it was a smash hit for the streaming giant given how overwhelming the title’s presence was on social media. As Lantern Entertainment looks to fully exploit the assets it acquired as part of its $289 million acquisition of The Weinstein Company assets, it is close to reaching a significant settlement with Disney, a stakeholder in some of the company’s film and titles.

A person familiar with the discussions between Lantern and Disney characterized them as constructive and among many similar negotiations happening with other rights-holders, with the goal of removing any objections and disputes. The conversations toward a settlement were reported by Disney in a filing in U.S. Bankruptcy Court in Delaware.

Disney has separately maintained that Weinstein Co. owes it $6.8 million in outstanding payments connected to films Lantern did not pick up, including Scream 4 and The Matador.

Jane Levy has been cast in the lead role of the NBC drama pilot “Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist,” Variety has learned.

In addition, Paul Feig will no longer direct the pilot as planned due to scheduling conflicts. He remains on the project as an executive producer. Richard Shepard has now joined the pilot as the director and executive producer.
