One of the great things about working for JoBlo is that, over the years, I’ve had the pleasure to speak with some of my heroes. Being a child of the eighties, I tend to be most fascinated by the people I grew up watching. So, speaking to Sylvester Stallone, Mel Gibson and the great Don Johnson have consistently ranked with my fondest moments here with the site. Of course, one of the guys I’ve always wanted to talk to was the great Pierce Brosnan.
Given that I’m the guy behind James Bond Revisited, one could easily imagine why he was a bucket list interview of mine. However, beyond his work as 007, I’m still a fan, particularly of his movie The Matador, one of my favorites. Pierce has a new film out the week called Fast Charlie, which features him once again playing a hitman who’s...

Rebel Wilson is getting ready to serve as the star of “Double Fault,” a tennis comedy in development at Paramount Players.
Jim and Brian Kehoe, the brothers who wrote the 2019 high school comedy “Blockers,” are in talks to pen the screenplay. The logline is being kept under wraps.
“Double Fault” will be produced by Wilson and Todd Garner (“Senior Year”), with Brad Jenkel (“The Matador”) on board as executive producer.
Wilson recently starred in Netflix’s teen comedy “Senior Year,” in which she played a 37-year-old who wakes up from a coma and returns to high school to get her diploma.
In Variety’s review of “Senior Year,” Dennis Harvey praised Wilson as “a naturally gifted comedian” who pulls together the movie “through sheer force of personality and riffing performance chops.”
Prior to “Senior Year,” Wilson hadn’t starred in a movie since 2019’s “Isn’t It Romantic,” a romantic comedy that parodies stereotypical Hollywood meet-cutes.

The Hollywood Foreign Press Association has been kinder through the years to Joaquin Phoenix than the Academy Awards voters have. While the former child star has been nominated three times for an Oscar for his performances in 2000’s historical epic “The Gladiator,” 2005’s musical biopic “Walk the Line” and 2012’s religious cult drama “The Master,” he has yet to take home a little gold man.
But the international journalists who decide who wins the Golden Globes nominated Phoenix for those efforts as well as two comedic roles in 2013’s “Her” and 2014’s “Inherent Vice.” This year, he is once again caught in the heat of competition as the favorite to win Best Film Drama Actor, according to Gold Derby’s combined user odds for his incredibly committed, sympathetic and disturbing interpretation of Batman’s smirking arch nemesis in the comic-book-inspired summer blockbuster “Joker.”

It’s punishment more than practice that makes “The Perfection,” which is less a horror film per se than a grisly yet upscale grand guignol melodrama. Richard Shepard’s very tricky suspense film, co-written with the TV writing-producing team of Eric Charmelo and Nicole Snyder, has been a success for Netflix. The streaming service released the film earlier this year, picking it up after it made a stir at Fantastic Fest 2018.
The tale of classical musicianship and elaborate revenge is easier to admire than actually like, given somewhat repellent content grounded in character psychology that does not bear close scrutiny after these terse 90 minutes are over. Still, the icily well-crafted gamesmanship Shepard and company have devised certainly makes that time pass quickly, if uncomfortably.
The director has turned mostly to small-screen work since his last theatrical feature, “Dom Hemingway” (2013), including a dozen episodes of “Girls,” whose Allison Williams plays the lead here.

Netflix rarely gives out data regarding the amount of people streaming their original content (and when the do they are not to be trusted), so most of the time deciding whether or not a Netflix original project is a hit comes down to the film’s dominance in generating social media buzz. Before Netflix announced its Sandra Bullock thriller “Birdbox” earned 45 million views in seven days, many had suspected it was a smash hit for the streaming giant given how overwhelming the title’s presence was on social media. Based on this barometer, it appears Netflix has struck viral gold again with “The Perfection.”

Director Richard Shepard Tells Us How He Conceived, Cast and Shot One of the Year’s Most Insane Movies.
You might not see another movie this year like The Perfection. Making its debut last fall at Austin’s Fantastic Fest, the movie stunned audiences there with its no-holds-barred approach to a story that could probably best be categorized as psychological horror. But in a way it’s difficult to place The Perfection into one neat genre box: think of something along the lines of Whiplash crashing head-on into Audition and that might give you an idea what lies in store for you.

"Well, you know what happens now?" Netflix has debuted an official trailer for an acclaimed indie horror thriller titled The Perfection, from director Richard Shepard. This premiered at Fantastic Fest last year to rave reviews, hailing it as one of the most unique and original horror projects to play at the festival that year. Described as a shocking "cellist feud" film, it's about two rival prodigy musicians who get into some big trouble when they go at each other in sinister ways. Allison Williams stars with Logan Browning, and a cast including Steven Weber, Alaina Huffman, Glynis Davies, and Winnie Hung. This is one of those films that is best seen without having watched any footage before, but if you need to be convinced the trailer shows just enough to get your undivided attention. Aside from the monumental and well-deserved rise of Adam Driver, Allison Williams is on track to become the core “Girls” cast member with the second most interesting career. Not only did her pivotal role in “Get Out” launch her into proper movie stardom, but it seems to have sparked a real love of genre in the actress, a role fans are eager to watch her fulfill. Williams is doubling down on horror with her newest project for Netflix, a thriller set in the cutthroat world of classical musicians. Even the title, “The Perfection,” hints at a Type A character obsessed with success for which Williams seems almost poetically suited.

"The most buzzed-about movie at last year's Fantastic Fest, The Perfection is an elegant and terrifying suspense ride filled with unexpected twists and turns. When troubled musical prodigy Charlotte (Allison Williams) seeks out Elizabeth (Logan Browning), the new star pupil of her former school, the encounter sends both musicians down a sinister path with shocking consequences.
Overflowing with dizzying horror and sly dark humor, The Perfection is directed by Richard Shepard, and written by Eric C. Charmelo, Nicole Snyder and Richard Shepard. The film will be released globally on Netflix Friday, May 24, 2019."

Jane Levy has been cast in the lead role of the NBC drama pilot “Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist,” Variety has learned.
In addition, Paul Feig will no longer direct the pilot as planned due to scheduling conflicts. He remains on the project as an executive producer. Richard Shepard has now joined the pilot as the director and executive producer.
Levy will play Zoey Harris, described as a socially awkward, smart, charming, type-a whip-smart coder with a nervous energy and an impressive ability to talk a lot.
Levy recently starred in the Hulu series “Castle Rock” and will appear in the upcoming Netflix series “What/If.” She also had a role in the Seeso series “There’s…Johnny!” She previously starred in the series “Suburgatory” and played Mandy Milkovich in the first season of “Shameless.” On the feature side, she starred in 2013’s “Evil Dead,” “Don’t Breathe,” and “The Pretenders.”
