Actor and executive producer Matt Bomer has earned his second Emmy nomination, this time for his role as the lovelorn State Department official Hawk Fuller on Showtime’s Fellow Travelers.
Created by Ron Nyswaner, based on Thomas Mallon’s novel, Fellow Travelers is a love story and political thriller, chronicling the clandestine romance of two very different men who meet in the shadow of McCarthy-era Washington. Bomer plays Fuller, a man with a successful career in politics who generally avoids emotional entanglements — until he meets the idealistic Tim Laughlin (Jonathan Bailey). The two begin a romance just as Joseph McCarthy and Roy Cohn declare war on “subversives and sexual deviants,” initiating one of the darkest periods in 20th-century American history. Over the course of four decades, we follow the pair as they cross paths through the Vietnam War protests of the 1960s, the drug-fueled disco hedonism of the 1970s...

Before Mary Elizabeth Winstead played the roles of comic book-based Ramona Flowers and John McClane’s daughter, she starred as Lee Montgomery in Quentin Tarantino’s Death Proof. At the time, Winstead was making her mark in the horror slasher genre, even leading the ensemble cast of Final Destination 3. When she got the audition call for Death Proof, Winstead pulled off one little trick to get past the audition stage.

Winstead shared that she wore flip-flops to the audition to tap into the director’s alleged cinematic foot fetish. The Fargo actress managed to impress Tarantino with her take on Lee, rather than use her foot to get cast in the film.

Actor and filmmaker Jason Priestley was Brad Pitt’s roommate and he revealed the Hollywood star’s shocking hygiene habit.
According to the Beverly Hills, ‘90210’ alum, Pitt wasn’t huge on hygiene back then, reports eonline.com.
“We used to play this game to see who could go the longest without showering,” Jason told Live! With Kelly and Mark co hosts Kelly Ripa and Mark Consuelos. “I think about it now and I’m like, ‘Dude, how disgusting. What were you thinking?'”
As for who would win? “Brad,” Priestley shared. “Always Brad.” However, the 54-year-old noted that it’s unlikely Brad has stuck with the same routine.

Tru Calling arrived on the small screen at a pivotal time for fans of genre fare in 2003.
Buffy the Vampire Slayer had just ended, so there was a desire from networks to get its most recognizable cast on new projects.
Eliza Dushku could have continued playing Buffy's onetime adversary in a planned spinoff, but instead of choosing the predictable, the actress opted to take a hard left turn to steer her career in a different direction.
The series starred Dushku as Tru Davies, a young woman who takes a job at a morgue when her internship falls through.
Yes, there's far more to the plot than that, with the unique spin that found the deceased waking up from the dead and asking her to help them.
That allowed Tru to relive the day to find out what happened to them and to try to change the events.

"Buffy the Vampire Slayer" remains one of the great TV shows, at least in part because of its supporting characters. The series boasted a supporting cast that became as popular and beloved as the titular slayer herself. Whether it's the Scoobies, David Boreanez's Angel, or the hugely-popular character that was originally supposed to be killed off early, Spike (James Marsters), one of the series' great strengths was the fact that its central character was, at least by the series' end, essentially one of many protagonists.
"Buffy" debuted on the WB back in 1997, but by 1999 Angel had proven popular enough to get his own spin-off, with "Angel" airing on the same network that year. In that first season of the spin-off show, Buffy's former beau is joined by Eliza Dushku's Faith, another slayer who was "called" following the death of Kendra, yet another slayer "called" after Buffy temporarily died in season one.

Have you ever bought something impulsively and realized that you probably should have thought it through? I know I have. But, I’m just a nobody, I’m not a major network that can pour thousands upon thousands of dollars into a TV show before they think it through. Networks can make some boneheaded moves. I can see some shows that would make you question the intelligence of network executives. Hell, I covered one of my “what were they thinking” shows in a past episode – Cop Rock!
But unlike those other shows, the show I want to talk about was actually good! It’s just that it wound up causing the network a lot of headaches. I am talking about an excellent Joss Whedon little-known project called Dollhouse. This show was awesome. It had amazing actors, great action, and insane twists. But it also touched on some pretty icky themes...

Remembering The Comedians Of Comedy, Netflix's First True Original Production (A Quasi-Oral History)
If I asked you to name the first original production from Netflix, what would you say? An educated guess might bring you to "House of Cards" or "Lilyhammer," and that's a fair assessment. While the former was Netflix's first piece of original programming produced specifically for the company's streaming service (released in February of 2013), the latter technically has the honor of being Netflix's first original streaming production (premiering on Netflix in February of 2012), even though it was only partially funded by Netflix and actually premiered in Norway first under the TV network NRK1.
But what if I told you that neither of these was the first true Netflix original? What if I told you Netflix produced their first original production even before they created the now-defunct Red Envelope Entertainment? Yes, before streaming, Netflix had a film financing and acquisition arm that shuttered in 2008 after investing in more than 100 films and...

Warner Bros. Discovery has taken a divide-and-conquer strategy when it comes to “Impractical Jokers.”
The show, a programming mainstay on the cable network TruTv for ten seasons, has been airing on both Tru and TBS since launching its most recent cycle in early February of 2023. During that run, the show has largely seen viewership increase on TBS week over week, according to data from Nielsen, except for the week of March 2. While its run on Tru has been a little choppier over its first month on air, viewership of the episodes has widened noticeably when viewership over a three-day period is taken into consideration. The launch of the tenth season has also boosted viewership of linear repeats as well as streams on HBO Max, according to Nielsen data reviewed by Variety.

Morse had some small roles on the boards beginning in the mid-1950s, then got his big break in “How To Succeed in Business Without Really Trying” in 1961. Indeed, this iconic Camelot-era musical later reworked into a film in which Morse also starred, worked as a significant wink to insiders when Morse appeared in “Mad Men” decades later.

Robert Morse, who brought a playful, eccentric sensibility to AMC’s “Mad Men” as the namesake head honcho of fictional ad agency Sterling Cooper, has died. He was 90.
Morse was a two-time Tony Award winner, beginning with best actor in a comedy for the 1961 production of “How to Succeed at Business Without Really Trying.” He won again in 1990 for playing Truman Capote in the play “Tru,” this time for best actor featured in a play, making him one of only four actors to win both honors.
He also won an Emmy for a live TV performance of “Tru” a few years later.
But it was his turn as Bert Cooper, head of ad agency Sterling Cooper on AMC’s “Mad Men,” that modern audiences will remember best.
Morse played Cooper as a benevolent, eccentric leader who loved exotic artwork and going barefoot, insisting on both a tight ship and a light mood.

Morse played Cooper as a benevolent, eccentric leader who loved exotic artwork and going barefoot, insisting on both a tight ship and a light mood.

Robert Morse, who translated Broadway stardom into a film career in the 1960s, then re-emerged decades later as one of the stars of “Mad Men,” has died. He was 90.
Writer-producer Larry Karaszewski, who serves as a VP on the board of governors for the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, tweeted news of Morse’s death on Thursday.
“My good pal Bobby Morse has passed away at age 90,” he wrote. “A huge talent and a beautiful spirit. Sending love to his son Charlie & daughter Allyn. Had so much fun hanging with Bobby over the years – filming People v Oj & hosting so many screenings.”
Morse was Emmy nominated five times for playing the sage Bertram Cooper, the senior partner at the advertising firm that was the focus of AMC’s prestigious series “Mad Men,” from 2007 to 2015. In 2010, he shared the SAG Award that “Mad Men” won for outstanding performance by...

Exclusive: 20th Television has optioned Steve Almond’s forthcoming novel All the Secrets of the World to adapt as a television series. The Gotham Group, which is under a first-look deal at 20th, would produce, and Jon Feldman is attached as showrunner. 20th Television is the studio. A search is underway for a writer.
All the Secrets of the World is set to be published by Zando on April 19. The book, described as “a sweeping social novel,” opens in 1981 in Sacramento, where 13-year-old Lorena Saenz has just been paired with Jenny Stallworth for the science fair by a teacher hoping to unite two girls from starkly different worlds. The unlikely friendship they form will draw their families into a web of secrets and lies, one that sends Lorena on an unforgiving odyssey through the desert, past the gates of a religious cult in Mexico, and into the...

Exclusive: Fox’s Monarch is getting a new boss after former Designated Survivor showrunner Jon Feldman took over the reins of the musical drama series.
Feldman has been named showrunner of the country music series, replacing Michael Rauch.
The series, which stars Susan Sarandon, Trace Adkins and Anna Friel, is set to premiere on Sunday, January 30 at 10 p.m. Currently in production, Feldman will now oversee the series, which was created by Melissa London Hilfers.
Deadline understands that given the size of the show – it is a sprawling musical family epic – there were some speed bumps hit during filming and Fox, which owns the series as its first live-action series fully since the sale of 20th Television to Disney, felt it needed to pivot. We hear that production was briefly halted as Harmon Feldman took over the position.

Half a decade has passed since Lin-Manuel Miranda finished his Broadway run as the star of “Hamilton,” but the adulation for his work just keeps coming. The Tony-winning smash, which Miranda also wrote, experienced a surge in popularity after a filmed version featuring the entire original cast premiered on Disney+ last July. Miranda and six of his castmates have been recognized for their acting, which makes most of them part of an exclusive group of performers who have earned Tony and Emmy bids for the same role.
Just as they did at the 2016 Tonys, leading men Miranda and Leslie Odom Jr. face each other directly in this year’s Best Movie/Limited Actor Emmy race. Nominated for their supporting turns are Daveed Diggs, Renée Elise Goldsberry, Jonathan Groff, Anthony Ramos, and Phillipa Soo. Ramos is the only one to have not originally competed at the Tonys, as that slot was instead filled by Christopher Jackson.

As of this writing Paul Bettany is the front-runner (with 71/20 odds according to the combined predictions of Gold Derby users) to win Best Movie/Limited Actor at this year’s Primetime Emmy Awards for his performance in the Disney+ limited series “WandaVision.” Let’s consider a couple of the important factors that could help him come out on top.
Bettany plays Vision, an android who’s trying to hide his superhero identity by living a happy suburban life in Westview, New Jersey, with Wanda Maximoff (Elizabeth Olsen). As the couple’s surroundings cycle through different eras of television sitcom tropes, they begin to suspect that something strange is happening to them.
Of this year’s nominees for Best Movie/Limited Actor, Bettany happens to be the only one whose show is up for Best Limited Series. That could help him considerably. After all, the other men in his category each appear to have some disadvantages.

Jehnny Beth, the Savages frontwoman, has marked the release of her solo debut, To Love Is to Live, with a surrealistic video for the dusky track, “We Will Sin Together,” which contains the album’s titular line: “To love is to live/to live is to sin.”
To illustrate this, the clip presents a religious-looking marble statue that, once unveiled, comes to life and engages in a litany of sexual and violent vignettes. These reference mythology from Catholic, Roman and Greek literature — the Virgin Mary, Cupid and Psyche, Pluto and Proserpina,...

Savages singer Jehnny Beth released a self-directed video for “Heroine,” her latest single off of To Love Is to Live, out June 12th.
The clip opens with Beth walking through the Paris Métro, her face blanketed in a mask, amid the pandemic. She rapidly pivots toward the camera for the defiant lines, “All I want is to go dancing with the devil/All I want is to touch you on every level.”
Grainy shots of Beth as a child are interspersed throughout the video, as she plays piano and smiles in a turtleneck.

Jehnny Beth dropped “Heroine,” the new single from her upcoming LP, To Love Is to Live, out June 12th.

Natasha Lyonne is stuck in a nightmare in the first official trailer for Netflix's Russian Doll.
The Orange is the New Black favorite plays Nadia on the upcoming series, an "anti-hero who finds that she is stuck in a loop. She is living the same night over and over again and can’t seem to get out of her own way. She’s troubled, but hopes she is one of the good guys."
How would you feel if you were the guest of honor at a seemingly inescapable party in New York City?
The trailer alone shows some of the creative ways in which Nadia's life comes to an end before restarting the day to try and find the right way out.
It's all very reminiscent of Tru Calling ... if anybody remembers that Fox series. Yes, it was canceled too soon.
Russian Doll was created by Lyonne alongside Amy Poehler and Leslye Headland,...

Don’t ask Jason Priestley about a “Beverly Hills, 90210” reboot. For one thing, it has already been done: The second “90210” aired on The CW from 2008 to 2013. And although Priestley returned to direct, he wasn’t interested in reviving his character and appearing on camera.
“I couldn’t figure out a reason why Brandon would still be hanging around there,” Priestley told IndieWire’s Turn It On. “He left. I couldn’t figure out why.”
Priestley has worked on plenty of TV and film since the O.G. “90210,” including series like “Tru Calling,” “Call Me Fitz” and “Haven.” But he’s also now a prolific director, working on both comedies like “Working the Engels” but also sci-fi shows like “Van Helsing” and “Dark Matter.”
Now he’s back on TV as the star of “Private Eyes,” a fun, light hearted procedural mystery drama from Canada that has made its way across the border on Ion.

Eliza Dushku has turned in superb performances in TV and films for over twenty years. On the small screen she headlined two shows, “Tru Calling” and “Dollhouse” after her breakthrough role as “bad girl” Faith on “Buffy the Vampire Slayer”. Her big screen career began with playing the daughters of Robert De Niro and Arnold Schwarzenegger in This Boy’S Life and True Lies. Later roles ranged from the comedy hits Bring It On and Jay And Silent Bob Strike Back to thrillers like Soul Survivors and Wrong Turn. Despite a slight uptick in quality, Shadowhunters is still disappointingly far, far from the show it could have been...
This review contains spoilers.
1.3 Dead Man's Party
It’s not saying much, but this was the best episode of Shadowhunters so far. With most of the major characters introduced and most of the basic rules of the universe already established, there was a bit more breathing room for things to happen. And with most of the worst aspects of the show pushed discreetly out of sight, there was even time to have some fun.
So, again, we pick up pretty much exactly where the last episode left off, with Simon being abducted by vampires who think Clary knows where the Mortal Cup is and quite fancy nicking it for themselves. That sense of continuity is quite nice; it can be disconcerting to feel like characters in a TV...

Stellan Skarsgård is haunted in Abi Morgan’s engrossing new BBC detective drama, River. Spoilers…
This review contains spoilers.
As a TV detective, you’re no-one in today’s world if you’re not a) haunted by your past, b) suffering from some form of psychological disorder, or c) Scandinavian. Enter Stellan Skarsgård’s John River, pulling an impressive triple whammy in Abi Morgan’s engrossing new BBC crime series.
While his peers are only figuratively haunted by dead partners and unsolved cases, Det. River literally sees dead people. They’re not quite ghosts—he doesn’t believe in ghosts—but rather Six Feet Under-style ‘manifests’ only visible to him. (Trauma-induced hallucinations is probably the technical term, but when was the last time you booked into a Lucky Voice booth with your trauma-induced hallucination and belted out a disco classic?)
River’s manifests are both pals and pests: former partner Det.

The same people who say a day is a long time in politics have also been overheard saying that ten years is a long time in television.
In 2005 the world had never heard of Facebook, the iPhone or Justin Bieber. The USA had never had a black President, Greece still had money, there were no new episodes of Friends and networks were desperate to find their next big hit.
They brutally culled shows including Everybody Loves Raymond, Andromeda, NYPD Blue, The Osbournes, Six Feet Under, Tru Calling, and Star Trek: Enterprise, which went straight into syndication but left some pretty big holes in the schedule.
So what shows did Fox, NBC, CBS, Comedy Central and others give debuts to a decade ago? Some of the most popular programmes in recent living memory. True, not all of them have managed to go the distance but they all made an impression...

Second episodes are always a bit tricky, especially in the soapy-procedural bracket iZombie belongs to, but re-establishing the premise doesn’t always have to be a drag. There are characters we’ve already met, a structure we’ve been introduced to and relationships stuck in one place by necessity but, as the show has proven with Brother, Can You Spare a Brain?, it can build on the foundation, rather than simply re-explain.
Hence Blaine (David Anders), a fellow zombie and someone who appears to be the series' first ongoing villain. He’s great for a number of very clear reasons, and he dominates episode two with snark, charm and menace that sets us up nicely for whatever shenanigans he plans to get up to...

An undead, much more sharply written Tru Calling from the creator of Veronica Mars? Sign us up for The CW's latest series, iZombie...

1.1 Pilot
Zombies, like most other fictional monsters in popular culture, are often best when used as metaphors for recognisable human things. It’s why teen shows have been so quick to adopt a fantasy angle ever since Buffy The Vampire Slayer introduced the ‘high school is hell’ theme back in the late 90s.
Now, though, the trendy thing is to have your protagonist be the monster, and iZombie – Rob Thomas’ latest – sees the zombie sub-genre finally reach that crucial point in its cycle.
Our set-up is this – promising, over-achieving doctor Liv (Rose McIver) goes to a boat party that happens to be hit by a sudden zombie outbreak. She wakes up in a body-bag, realises she’s (un)dead, and we then pick...

Veronica Mars creator Rob Thomas is back with a new show on The CW. iZombie is a witty, original take on the zombie psychic detective genre, and the first trailer for the series has just been unveiled.
To me, this looks a little like a mixture of Tru Calling and Veronica Mars, and with Thomas leading the charge as the executive producer, you can definitely feel that Mars vibe coming from this show. For fans who were disappointed with last year's much-hyped Veronica Mars film, this could be a cool way to recapture some of what we loved about Thomas' earlier series, but wrapped up and displayed in a new package.
Rose McIver (“Masters of Sex,” “Once Upon a Time”) stars as Olivia “Liv” Moore, a rosy-cheeked, disciplined, over-achieving medical resident who had her life path completely mapped out… until the night she attended a party that unexpectedly turned into a zombie feeding frenzy.

From Oscar-winning to Homeland and more, here's what the cast of My So-Called Life have been up to over the past 2 decades...
Twenty years has passed since we were first introduced to the characters of My So-Called Life, twenty years! Where has the time gone? And more importantly when did I get so old?
While most of you won’t really care too much what I’ve been up to since the show finished, let’s take a look at what the actors have been up to in the years since the cancellation of what is frankly the greatest teen TV drama ever.
Claire Danes (Angela Chase)
After breaking out in My So-Called Life, Danes focused on her film career first with a leading role in 1995’s Little Women and then supporting roles in smaller but interesting films like Home For The Holidays, How to Make An American Quilt and...
