There was a lot of controversy in the 57th annual academy awards. That's because Angela Lansbury decided to on an exuberant whim accept Peggy Ashcroft's award on her behalf even though Victor Banarjee was designated by Ashcroft to accept the award. Ashcroft wasn't able to be present as she was at a funeral, and in fact after the ceremony the Academy issued a formal apology to Banarjee for the disgraceful conduct, and Lansbury sadly never bothered to apologize to Banarjee, but she could have made it up by offering him a leading role on Murder, She Wrote to mend the waves and making the apology more sincere.
