In late 2000, Konami announced the development of "Metal Gear Solid X" for the Xbox. It was initially thought that it would be a version of Metal Gear Solid (1998), but Konami later announced that it would be a combination of Metal Gear Solid and Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty (2001) (which was still in development at the time). Eventually the project became an updated port of Metal Gear Solid 2, was renamed, and was released on multiple platforms.
Dead Cell's bomb expert is called Fatman. The character was named after "Fat Man", the codename of the atomic bomb that was detonated over Nagasaki, Japan in 1945.
The VR Missions were created by the "Script Team", series creator Hideo Kojima only produced the title.
The Xbox version was planned to be released in Japan, but Konami cancelled it in September 2002, due to low Japanese Xbox sales numbers.
