Oi there, listen up! Amazon Prime Video’s list of new releases for June 2024 includes another season of its biggest, bloodiest hit.
The Boys season 4 premieres its first three episodes on Thursday, June 13. Based on the trailers, The Boys is really leaning into the political side of its social satire with a presidential election underway and Homelander on trial for the small matter of killing a guy last season. The season will continue to air on Thursdays, culminating with the finale on July 18.
Amazon is really leaning into its sports offerings this month as well. Fans will get to watch the New York Yankees, the WNBA, and the Nwsl several times throughout June. That’s in addition to a couple of sports docs: Power of the Dream on June 18 and Federer: Twelve Final Days on June 20.
But if you’re looking for something even more explosive than Homelander and Roger Federer,...

It might be too on-the-nose to call Saved! a minor miracle of a movie, but how else would you describe Brian Dannelly’s faith-centric satire? Since it was released in arthouses and multiplexes 20 years ago this week, it’s remained one of the few teenage comedies brave enough to explore and critique the contemporary Christian high school experience without relying on broad fundamentalist humor, cheap caricatures, or treacly after-school messaging. Within modern Hollywood, it felt––and still feels––like a true outlier, a nuanced slice of religious life with a surprisingly deep roster of young indie talents that its creator still can’t believe was even made.
Set at a Christian high school, Saved! stars Jena Malone as 17-year-old Mary, a born-again believer who offers up her virginity to convert her gay boyfriend Dean (Chad Faust). The plan ultimately fails––Dean is sent to conversion therapy and Mary gets pregnant,...

Lingua Ignota is back… err, actually, “Lingua Ignota” is not back, but the mind behind the darkwave/noise/metal project, Kristin Hayter, is. Today, Hayter announced Saved!, the debut album under her new name, Reverend Kristin Michael Hayter, which is due on October 20th via Perpetual Flame Ministries. She also shared the album’s first single, “All My Friends Are Going to Hell.” Listen to the song below.
Saved! marks a new era in Hayter’s career, as the Lingua Ignota project finally comes to a close (she first announced that she’d be retiring the moniker last year). As the press release for the new album explains, however, this move makes perfect sense in the wider context of Hayter’s artistic output. “Mirroring her personal evolution away from pain, she sheds the moniker that made her successful for its unflinching expression of lived trauma and instead builds herself anew,...

With its list of new releases for June 2023, Prime is bringing a handful of Amazon Originals and many recent movie hits to the fold.
It’s actually quite a busy month for non-American programming in Amazon Originals department. Shows and movies like Deadloch, My Fault, and Medellín all originate from outside the U.S. and U.K. For the American and British crowd, however, the streamer is debuting two big tentpoles.
The first is I’m a Virgo on June 23. Acclaimed director Boots Riley’s TV followup to Sorry to Bother You will tale the surreal and satirical tale of a giant in Oakland. That will be followed by the more conventional (assumedly) fourth season of Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan on June 30.
The real fireworks this month come from a ludicrously deep bench of library TV and movie titles. Give them a look for yourself below but if we were to highlight just a few,...

The fourth and final season of “Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan” arrives on Prime Video on June 30. It finds Ryan — now the new acting CIA director — unearthing internal corruption and suspicious black ops that leaves the United States vulnerable to attack. John Krasinski stars as the tough-as-nails Ryan.

The Duggars and their 19 “happy” kids are exposed as frauds, while also being manipulated by Gothard and enduring the scandal of Josh, their sexually abusive son.

From “Saved!” to “The Miseducation of Cameron Post,” Sundance movies tend to paint fundamentalist Christians as severe, cult-like zealots, hellbent on brainwashing the next generation. While such portrayals can certainly be cathartic for those scarred by conservative upbringings, it’s a refreshing change to see this milieu treated with the level of nuance that Laurel Parmet brings to “The Starling Girl.”
Set in a small Kentucky town where morality is strictly enforced, Parmet’s promising, evenhanded debut focuses on a religious teen (“Little Women” star Eliza Scanlen) who’s never had reason to question her faith, until a crush on her handsome youth pastor (Lewis Pullman) awakens her sexuality and scandalizes the community. For the adults in this repressive rural enclave, organized religion seems to provide the discipline and structure they seek. But for 17-year-old Jem Starling, their values are starting feel like a straitjacket.

Exclusive: Mary-Louise Parker (Weeds), Carrie-Anne Moss (The Matrix franchise), Isabelle Fuhrman (The Novice) and Liana Liberato (To the Bone) have signed on to star in Justine Bateman’s upcoming feature Face, based on her 2021 bestseller, Face: One Square Foot of Skin.
The film penned by Bateman consists of 14 vignettes, both comedic and dramatic, which look at women’s faces getting older, and why that makes people angry. While much of society appears to assume that women’s faces are somehow broken and need to be fixed, Face reveals some of the many ways in which women, and those around them, allow this idea to take root at all.
Parker will play Tanya, an actress balancing her need to use her face for her job and the pressure to not move it at all, with Moss as Mrs. Foster, a kindergarten teacher whose young students remind her of the magical functionality of the face.

If you’re looking for new movies and TV shows to watch on Amazon Prime Video in April, you’ve come to the right place. Good news for all you Brolin-heads! Amazon Prime Video’s list of new releases for April 2022 is highlighted by one very intriguing TV project starring Thanos himself.
The Josh Brolin-starring Outer Range premieres April 15 and looks like it could be a wild ride. The synopsis is terse and reads “A rancher fighting for his land and family stumbles upon an unfathomable mystery at the edge of Wyoming’s wilderness, forcing a confrontation with the Unknown in ways both intimate and cosmic in the untamable American West.” That, combined with an enigmatic first trailer, has our interest piqued.
Also on the TV side of things this month is season 2 of the beautifully rotoscoped series Undone on April 29. Rosa Salazar returns as Alma, a woman who may have become unstuck in time to help save her scientist father’s life. Before that, the British TV series The Outlaws makes its debut...

Cinema is filled with multi-talented young actors who bring to life all types of characters. Moore & Adams To Wed
Mandy Moore and rocker Ryan Adams have stunned the music world by getting engaged.
Few people knew the stars were dating again after their 2008 romance fell apart, and Moore started dating ex-boyfriend Adam 'DJ AM' Goldstein as he recovered from a plane crash in South Carolina in September.
Moore and Goldstein split in December and the actress/singer reunited with Adams, according to reports.
The Saved star, who at 24 is 10 years younger than singer/songwriter Adams, was recently spotted wearing what looked like an engagement ring on her wedding finger and a friend tells Life & Style magazine, "She is so excited... It's been a whirlwind. She's really happy."
Adams recently announced his plans to step back from music and disband his group The Cardinals to concentrate on other projects.

City Lights Pics falls for 'Descent'
NEW YORK -- Producer-actress Rosario Dawson's harrowing date rape drama Descent has been acquired for domestic theatrical release by City Lights Pictures Releasing.
Sister company City Lights Home Entertainment will handle video and digital distribution of the film as part of its recently announced partnership with Warner/Elektra/Atlantic.
In the less than $3 million feature, set for a platform release in late spring, Dawson will play a college student slowly recovering from a brutal date rape. While trying to rebuild her life, she decides to take revenge on her attacker (Chad Faust, Saved!) in a manner City Lights CEO Danny Fisher describes as "equally shocking, controversial and graphic."
Fisher said he is prepared to release the film unrated or with an NC-17 rating because of its violence as he doesn't want to diminish the power of the material.
"This is not a revenge thriller, and we're not planning to market it as such," Fisher said. He plans to reach out to rape and women's organizations to spread awareness about the subject matter and launch a strong Internet campaign, including a presence in online support groups.

But how could anyone step into those shoes? She's pretty unbelievable and irreplaceable and totally owns that role. Although I have to say that I'm obsessed with Idina Menzel (Elphaba).
