Though Trent Reznor helped bring industrial rock to the mainstream as the frontman of Nine Inch Nails, he has revealed himself to be a pop fan in recent years. During a red carpet interview at the Golden Globes, he continued that trend while naming his favorite song of 2024.
This past weekend, Reznor caught an interviewer from the Los Angeles alternative radio station 98.7 off-guard when he chose Sabrina Carpenter’s hit “Espresso” as his song of the year. Sadly, he didn’t elaborate on the choice.

Last summer, Reznor admitted he previously had a stance that pop music “sucks generally,” but changed his mind after “tearing up” while hearing his daughter sing along to Dua Lipa’s “Levitating.” While appearing on Rick Rubin’s podcast, Tetragrammaton, the artist explained, “It really reminded me of the art of writing a well-crafted song,” and praised the track as...

So, legendary actress Glenn Close did play drums in System of a Down after all? Turns out a seemingly random shout-out of the band during the Golden Globes ceremony on Sunday night (January 5th) may have some weight to it, thanks to a confirmation from guitarist-singer Daron Malakian.
Upon introducing Close to the stage, Golden Globes host and Consequence‘s 2024 Comedian of the Year Nikki Glaser said, “To present our next award, please welcome from Netflix’s Back in Action, three-time Golden Globe winner, Hollywood icon, and former drummer for System of a Down, Glenn Close!”

Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross have struck Golden Globe gold for the third time, winning the 2025 award for Best Original Score for their work on Luca Guadagnino’s Challengers.
The Nine Inch Nails members previously won Golden Globes for Best Original Score for The Social Network in 2010 and Soul in 2020. The duo was also nominated for Best Original Song at this year’s Golden Globes for their Challengers track, “Compress / Repress,” but lost to “El Mal” from Emilia Perez.
Reznor and Ross, Consequence’s 2024 Composers of the Year, will look to add to their trophy case at the 2025 Academy Awards, as they’re on the shortlist for both Best Original Score and Original Song.

Zendaya may have starred in two of the best movies of 2024, but it wasn’t all a cake walk. In a new interview, the actor revealed that she suffered “terrible heatstroke” while filming Dune: Part Two.
Speaking with W Magazine, she explained that it was “very hot” on the set of the sci-fi epic, and the nearest bathrooms were a “hike” away from the remote location in Jordan where they were filming. On top of that, her costume — the stillsuit worn by the desert inhabitants of Arrakis — was very heavy, and took around 10 minutes to get on and off.
All that combined, Zendaya explained she had “such a fear of peeing myself, or shitting myself honestly, because you don’t have enough time to get back to the bathroom, and then when you get back to the bathroom, you have to then get your costume off.”
In light of that fear,...

Stewart Copeland, legendary drummer of The Police, was tasked with playing along to Limp Bizkit’s “Rollin’ (Air Raid Vehicle)” while hearing it for the first time as part of Drumeo’s popular YouTube series.
Drumeo’s first “For the First Time” episode of 2025 follows acclaimed editions featuring Red Hot Chili Peppers’ Chad Smith taking on Thirty Seconds to Mars’ “The Kill” in 2023, and Dream Theater’s Mike Portnoy figuring out Tool’s “Pneuma” last year, among others. The Smith episode has garnered 20 million views itself.

Copeland, who landed in the Top 10 of Consequence’s 100 Best Drummers of All Time list, was asked by Drumeo host Brandon Toews if he had seen the “For the First Time” series at all, replying, “I saw Chad. How can you not love Chad?”
Toews then started playing “Rollin'” without its drum track for Copeland, who immediately began to play along.

Three Days Grace have released the new song and video “Mayday,” the Canadian rock band’s first track since reuniting with original singer Adam Gontier.
The single features vocals from both Gontier and Matt Walst, the singer who replaced Gontier upon his exit from the band in 2013. As previously reported, Walst will stay on to co-front Three Days Grace.

The song starts with a bass line reminiscent of the band’s monster 2006 hit “Animal I Have Become” (one of Consequence’s 50 Best Post-Grunge Songs of All Time), along with a screamed vocal intro. The track then settles into a more alt-rock vibe with clean-sung verses and a melodic chorus before leading into a heavier breakdown at the 2:10 mark.
The track was produced by Zakk Cervini and Dan Lancaster with vocal production by Howard Benson. An accompanying music video, directed by CiRCUS HEaD, finds...

Jon Hamm and Jimmy Fallon surprised viewers with a parody of Creed’s “With Arms Wide Open” on a special Sunday night (November 17th) episode of The Tonight Show.

The universe of “Dune” expands on HBO on Sunday, Nov. 17, with the premiere of “Dune: Prophecy,” a prequel series set 10,000 years before the events of Frank Herbert‘s first novel. Based on Brian Herbert and Kevin J. Anderson‘s “Sisterhood of Dune” novel, “Prophecy” is the origin story of the Bene Gesserit, a powerful sect that seeks to control the path of humanity. It was developed for television by Diane Ademu-John and Alison Schapker and stars Emily Watson as Valya Harkonnen, the ruthless leader of the sisterhood. But does it live up to the Oscar-winning spectacle of Denis Villeneuve‘s recent “Dune” adaptations?

Beyoncé is set to appear at Vice President Kamala Harris’ rally in Houston, Texas, on Friday, October 25th, according to multiple reports.
NBC reports the pop star is also expected to perform at Harris’ stop in Beyoncé’s hometown, with The Washington Post adding she will bring along her mother Tina Knowles, as well as country icon Willie Nelson.
In August, Beyoncé was rumored to be a special guest at the final night of the Democratic National Convention, though it turned out that no performance was ever planned.
As the election looms, figures like Taylor Swift, Charli Xcx, Insane Clown Posse (!?!?!), and others have made their support for the Democratic nominee known, while others like Chappell Roan and Julian Casablancas explained their reasoning for abstaining from making a formal endorsement (though the former clarified she would still be voting for Harris come November).

Gene Simmons was recently asked about his musical preferences regarding his instrument of choice, the bass guitar, and the ever-opinionated Kiss co-founder took a crack at jazz bassists and other virtuosos such as Flea to prove his point.
To no surprise, Simmons prefers simplicity — a catchy hook — over technical skill, as reflected in his songwriting in Kiss.
In a new interview with Guitar World, he admitted that he never had interest in being a “bass virtuoso,” adding that he doesn’t like “show-offs in music” and that he’s “much more attracted to things that are memorable.”
Simmons went on to give his narrow-minded hot take on jazz — what he called music “intended to show off how well you play” — and technically gifted guitarists such as John McLaughlin.
“You can be a jazz player and be respected by musicians, but the rest of the world doesn’t care,” Simmons said.

Charli Xcx and Kesha have dropped a surprise new remix of the Brat bonus track “Spring Breakers.” Stream the new version of the song below.
Even before the release of Brat in June, a truck displaying “Kesha” on top of a very specific green background seemed to tease that the pop star would feature on the new Charli release. Katy Perry’s 143 is not the comeback she was surely hoping for.
The album has debuted this week at No. 6 on Billboard 200 after moving 48,000 equivalent album units, a far cry from the 192,000 first-week copies that Teenage Dream moved when it debuted in 2010. While landing in the top 10 is still a notable feat for any artist, it’s worth noting that 143’s sales were “bolstered by its availability” on 13 different physical format variants, and two digital exclusive versions (per Billboard). 143 officially marks the worst debut of Perry’s career since One of the Boys in 2008, as even her previous album, Smile, managed to crack the top 5 with 50,000 equivalent units sold.
As shocking as these subpar sales figures may or may not be to Perry — who seemed to hope that this album would help kick off a “comeback” of sorts — they come as no surprise to the many fans who were baffled by 143’s lead single,...

After decades in the making — involving several cycles of shelving and revisiting, a personal investment of $120 million, casting scandals, on-set scandals, trailer scandals, and more — Francis Ford Coppola’s passion project, Megalopolis, finally opened in theaters this past weekend. Unfortunately, it’s showing at the box office left much to be desired.
Opening to wide release on Friday (September 27th), Megalopolis brought in only $4 million over its first weekend, seemingly sealing its fate as a box office flop in the face of Coppola’s gamble that self-funding the film would be worth it to not have to deal with studio oversight. As Consequence’s Liz Shannon Miller wrote in her review, the film is becoming “the world’s most expensive cautionary tale when it comes to spending $120 million of one’s own money so that you don’t have to listen to studio notes.”
Coppola first conceived the concept for Megalopolis in the 1980s,...

Agatha All Along is the most recent MCU series, a spinoff from the hit series WandaVision. The show had a lot of name changes prior to this one, so we’re really shocked that it stuck with this one through the broadcast. The series debuted on Disney+ on September 18, 2024, with two episodes, and the seven remaining episodes will be released every week until November 6, when the series will come to an end.
The show’s early reviews promised us an enjoyable and engaging experience, and although Agatha All Along is undoubtedly fascinating, the early critics’ reviews were lower than expected; conversely, the fans liked the show and are praising it.
While we have initially reported that the series is not doing well with the critics, the numbers are increasing as we speak, and we are happy to confirm that Agatha All Along has been awarded a “Certified Fresh” rating on...

Jane’s Addiction’s concert in Boston on Friday night (September 13th) ended after singer Perry Farrell got into a physical confrontation with guitarist Dave Navarro onstage. At one point the frontman even threw a punch at his bandmate.
Footage from the concert at Leader Bank Pavilion shows Navarro playing a solo during “Ocean Size,” the 11th song in the set, when Farrell walks over and angrily shoves Navarro. The two exchange words with the guitarist trying to hold Farrell back, but the singer then throws a punch at Navarro that hits him on his upper torso.

From there, the crew and bassist Eric Avery grab Farrell and drag him backstage, with the show abruptly ending. Navarro, Avery, and drummer Stephen Perkins (who was celebrating his birthday on Friday night) eventually make their way to the front of the stage and say goodnight to the crowd.

It’s been 20 years since Green Day’s American Idiot first arrived, and the seminal pop-punk album is still striking a chord with fans worldwide, as evidenced by the title track reaching a significant milestone: surpassing 1 billion streams on Spotify.
The achievement occurred this past week as Green Day is on the road with their “Saviors Tour,” which is not only supporting their new album, Saviors, but celebrates the 30th anniversary of Dookie and the 20th anniversary of American Idiot, with the band performing both albums in full at each stop.

Lyrically, “American Idiot” itself speaks to the turbulent socio-political climate of America in the 21st century, referencing national tension, propaganda, a country controlled by the media, and more. To that end, it’s little surprise that the track has remained a beloved anthem. Now, it joins “Basket Case” as Green Day’s second song to pass the 1 billion mark,...

With Linkin Park setting a countdown clock that ends on Wednesday (August 28th) and Sum 41 singer Deryck Whibley teasing his own Wednesday announcement, fans naturally put the two together and assumed that Whibley would be joining Linkin Park’s lineup on some sort of reunion tour. However, that is not the case, according to the Sum 41 frontman himself.
Speculation has run rampant since Linkin Park launched the countdown clock a couple days ago, with fans assuming that the band will reunite to play festivals and headlining concerts next year. The band hasn’t toured since singer Chester Bennington tragically took his own life in July 2017, only playing a tribute concert later that year (which happened to include Whibley as one of the guest singers).

Metallica fans have long debated the band’s greatest album, with 1986’s Master of Puppets often getting the slight nod over 1984’s Ride the Lightning. For Lamb of God singer Randy Blythe, Ride the Lightning gets his vote “all day long.”
In a recent interview with 96.7 Kcal-fm host Radioactive MikeZ, Blythe was asked to pick between Master of Puppets and Ride the Lightning. The Lamb of God frontman quickly responded, “Ride the Lightning, all day long!”

Blythe went on to say [as transcribed by Blabbermouth], “I think Master of Puppets overall, it sounds better as a record, and they were better players by then. Jason Isbell appeared at night one of the Democratic National Convention in Chicago on Monday to perform his song “Something More Than Free.”
Originally appearing as the title track for Isbell’s 2015 album, “Something More Than Free” is a working class anthem that showcases the alt-country singer’s evocative songwriting. “I don’t think on why I’m here or where it hurts/ I’m just lucky to have the work,” Isbell sings in the chorus, expressing gratitude for having work despite it being debilitating.

Speaking about the song selection in an interview with the New York Times, Isbell explained: “I remember when Bush was running, Jr., I remember seeing back home in Alabama, people would have trailers with cars on blocks, and clearly, people that weren’t doing very well financially, and they had signs in their yard for Bush. While David O. Russell is one of the most famous names in the industry for his star-studded critically-acclaimed pieces like American Hustle (2013), Silver Linings Playbook (2012), and The Fighter (2010), he is also rather infamous for his controversial stints. To say the least, he is one to have picked beef with and become the arch-nemesis of A-lister George Clooney.

Adding to this list was even the actress cum comedian Lily Tomlin who, despite being a senior to Russell, had to face his wrath while working with him on I Heart Huckabees in 2004. Deadpool & Wolverine has made history with the biggest box office opening for an R-rated movie. The Marvel superhero film earned a massive domestic haul of $205 million its first weekend of release, with a total domestic box office sum of $438.3 million.
With that, Deadpool & Wolverine has broken the previous record for an R-rated debut (held by the first Deadpool movie’s $133.7 million opening). It also marks the eighth biggest opening of all time among any film.
Plotwise, Deadpool & Wolverine follows Ryan Reynolds’ Wade Wilson as he explores the multiverse in search of a Wolverine (Hugh Jackman) who can help save his timeline, with plenty of in-jokes, references, and fun cameos along the way. As Consequence’s Liz Shannon Miller wrote in her review, the film is “a lot of fun when it’s really cooking… From beginning to end, this is a popcorn movie of the highest order.

Ska-punk favorites Goldfinger and Less Than Jake have combined to cover Post Malone and Morgan Wallen’s #1 collaborative single, “I Had Some Help.” Listen below.
The cover is mostly a faithful rendition of the original, save for some added horns and a bit more pop-punk urgency from Goldfinger’s John Feldmann and Less Than Jake’s Chris DeMakes. The two groups have toured together frequently, but have never hopped on a song together — and like Posty and Morgan Wallen, they seem to have captured the yin and the yang of “I Had Some Help.”
“I’ve been with my wife for 28 years, and I can sooo relate to this song! My kids haven’t stopped listening to it since it came out,” John Feldmann said in a statement. “I felt like I needed to do a cover with my friends in Less Than Jake! We’ve been close for decades...

“Image” and its music video are a compelling, intensely danceable first taste of the upcoming record. Vaporwave-tinged and absurdist, the visuals detail a digitally distorted nightmare, complete with star monsters, chase sequences, and the home shopping network.
Revisit the band’s My15 playlist, in which they compile their favorite songs of Consequence’s first 15 years.

Noah Kahan has used his platform to be an outspoken advocate for mental health betterment, and it’s clear that he doesn’t just talk the talk, but really walks the walk. Since founding his fundraising initiative, The Busyhead Project, last year, the Vermont singer-songwriter has raised over $2 million to aid mental health resources nationwide, including in rural communities
Housed under the Vermont Community Foundation and aided by the sailworks non-profit, The Busyhead Project raises funds from ticket sales, direct donations, and other offerings (like livestream tickets), and directs donations to organizations “selected by Noah for their commitment to mental health awareness, with an emphasis on local impact by providing access to resources,” according to a press release from the project.

Welcome back to Origins, our recurring series that gives artists a space to break down everything that went into their latest release. Today, the art-pop duo Faux Real dig into the themes behind the song and video for “Walking Away from My Demons.”
Faux Real have no problem leaning into lore. The two French-American brothers have made their synth-pop project Faux Real into a grand, overarching universe, with its own terminology, history, and surreal aesthetic. Now, with their debut album, Faux Ever, arriving on October 11th, the duo is clearly having fun with some world-building.
“Walking Away from My Demons” is the latest offering, and it’s futuristic and nostalgic all at once. The highly-syncopated drum machines beneath the Arndt brothers generate enough momentum for them to burst into a falsetto-laden chorus, where the groove switches and the mood gets empowering.
Keeping the highly conceptual, absurdist tone is “Walking Away from My Demons'” video,...

Good news for all of the brats out there: Charli Xcx has already dropped a deluxe version of her new album Brat. Dubbed Brat and it’s the same but there’s three more songs so it’s not, the new tracklist boasts (as you might have guessed) three new tunes from the pop star.
The three new songs of Brat and it’s the same but there’s three more songs so it’s not follow the 15 initial tracks of Brat and are titled “Hello goodbye,” “Guess,” and “Spring breakers.” Each picks right up where Brat left off, embodying Charli Xcx’s idiosyncratic approach to pop music. Notably, “Hello goodbye” sees the artist once again linking up with A. G. Cook, while “Guess” features writing credits from the likes of Dylan Brady (of 100 Gecs) and Harrison Patrick Smith (of The Dare). Stream them all below.

Kendrick Lamar delivered a surprise commencement speech at the 2024 graduation ceremony for Compton College, marking his first public appearance since his high-profile feud with Drake.
Taking the stage during the midpoint of the ceremony, much to the surprise of the class of 2024, Lamar expressed pride for his city, and hope for the next generation. “I still believe in Compton,” he said. “Compton has always been the future for me. I think we breed some of the most incredible individuals, creators, intellectuals, talent. We had it since day one… I traveled the world, it’s no place like this one right here… I still believe in everything that we’re doing. Brick by brick.”
Continuing, Lamar turned his attention to the future. “It’s time that we change the narratives,” he said. “Some people tell us, ‘This generation don’t have what it takes, Gen Z.’ They try to pull us...

Spotify CEO Daniel Ek has sparked backlash from the creative community after claiming that creating “content” costs “close to zero.”
“Today, with the cost of creating content being close to zero, people can share an incredible amount of content,” Ek recently tweeted, drawing criticism for suggesting that creative works like music are merely “content.” Continuing, he wrote, “While much of what we see and hear quickly becomes obsolete, there are timeless ideas or even pieces of music that can remain relevant for decades or even centuries.”
From there, Ek mused about which ideas would have a “long shelf life” a la Stoicism. Ek would later clarify his point was “not to devalue the time, effort, or resources involved in creating meaningful works,” but to explore how “we can identify and ensure that the bold, exciting, world-changing ideas and pieces of art don’t get lost in the noise.” However, the damage was done.

“I found out something at the very last Kiss show that I did not know before the very last Kiss show. And it’s a major piece of miscommunication,” Sebastian told Eddie Trunk on the latter’s SiriusXM program [as transcribed by Blabbermouth]. “And I need to communicate with those guys because there’s been something that happened that is not accurate. I can’t tell you what it is, but the whole narrative of they don’t like me and I’m too crazy is complete bullshit. It’s not true.
