This was a Canadian sitcom set in a neighborhood youth center. The listed cast comprised the staff of the center: the woman who ran the place (Kate), plus her wimpy male counselor and the gruff woman who manned the front desk. As one would expect, there were many stories dealing with troubled youth who came to the center needing help. "Hangin' In" was something of a dark horse, with no big stars and no big hook to pull in the viewers, but it was often very funny, and the more serious aspects of the story were also handled well. The most surprising thing about this show is that it ever appeared in the States--we get even less Canadian programming than Canada does.

I used to watch Hangin In after school when it ran on CBC television in Detroit. It was a really funny show set at a teen help center somewhere in Canada, the center was headed by Kate Brown the practical lead character, another counselor Michael was also on board for great comedy relief, and rounding out the cast was the gravelly voiced grumpy secretary Doris. In it's final season the show fizzled when Lallly Cadeau (Kate) left the show and she was replaced by Gina Wilkenson. But overall it was a great show I only wish it was still being shown on television.....
