The new film from director Josh Cooley serves as a prequel to the entire universe and chronicles the early days of Optimus and Megatron’s friendship. Here the official logline:

Brussels-based company Best Friend Forever has boarded international sales for Marie Losier’s documentary feature “Peaches Goes Bananas” ahead of its world premiere at the Venice Days sidebar running alongside the film festival.

Singapore-based 3D Investment Partners has offered to become a majority shareholder in Japanese film company Tohokushinsha and take it private, valuing the Japanese film company at $575M.

Tohokushinsha dubs foreign TV shows and films into Japanese and was also a co-producer of the 2003 film Lost in Translation that Sofia Coppola wrote and directed. The company also worked on the 1980 TV miniseries Shogun, which was based on James Clavell’s 1975 novel of the same name and the predecessor of Disney+’s Emmy-nominated modern version.

3D Investment Partners already holds an 18% share stake in Tohokushinsha and has proposed a purchase price of 600-650 yen per share, which represents a premium of 6%-15% to the film company’s closing price on Wednesday of 565 yen.

The finance firm first began building its stake in 2020 and said that the bid requires Tohokushinsha’s management to agree to delisting and other business plans proposed by 3D for the proposal to succeed.

Singapore-based finance firm 3D Investment Partners said Thursday that it is seeking to take private Tohokushinsha, the Japanese film and TV distribution firm. Its bid values Tohokushinsha at $575 million.

Founded in 1961, Tohokushinsha started as a dubbing house and has since expanded its business to include, among others, theatrical, video and TV distribution and production as well as operation of 10 satellite TV channels. It was a co-producer of Sofia Coppola’s breakout 2003 movie “Lost in Translation” and provided services on the 1980s series adaptation of James Clavell’s “Shogun.”

3D Investment already owns an 18% share stake in the stock market listed Tohokushinsha and is now offering to buy the balance of the equity at a price of JPY600-650 per share.

At the higher figure, the offer would represent a premium of 15% to Tohokushinsha shares at the close of stock trading on Wednesday. Trading in the stock was suspended on Thursday.

Fred Roos, the Oscar-winning producer of The Godfather Part II and many other notable films, has died. He was 89.

Roos had a long relationship with Francis Ford Coppola, serving as producer or co-producer on many of the director’s best known films, including the second and third Godfather films (the second bringing him his Oscar), The Conversation, Apocalypse Now, One From The Heart and The Cotton Club.

Most recently, Roos served as executive producer of Coppola’s Megalopolis, which premiered this week at the Cannes festival.

Born in Santa Monica, Roos began his film career in the mailroom at talent agency McA.

Fred Roos, the casting director turned producer who jump-started the career of Jack Nicholson and collaborated often with Francis Ford Coppola, sharing a best picture Oscar with the filmmaker for The Godfather Part II, has died. He was 89.

Roos died Saturday at his home in Beverly Hills, a publicist announced.

It’s part of Hollywood lore that before Harrison Ford became a famous actor, he was laboring as a carpenter to make ends meet. What some might not know is that it was at Roos’ house where Ford was woodworking when the casting director befriended him, eventually pushing him for roles in George Lucas’ American Graffiti (1973) and Star Wars (1977) and Coppola’s The Conversation (1974).

And it was Roos who convinced Lucas — who had been leaning toward Amy Irving — that Carrie Fisher should portray Princess Leia in Star Wars. (Roos did not have an official role on that film.)
