The Lion King 1 1/2 takes place before and during the events of The Lion King. It depicts Timon and Pumbaa's perspective of the story.
In the first film, the waterhole is not a very long distance from Pride Rock, so Timon and Pumbaa's journey there would not have spanned much time. They may have gotten there in the same day. The scene of them waking up could have taken place much later when Simba is older.
In some scenes, the scenes in this movie do contradict the scenes in the original film.
The most prominent one is that Timon meets Rafiki the night before Simba is presented to the kingdom. However, in the first film, Timon asks, "Who's the monkey?", referring to Rafiki, when Nala tells him and Pumbaa about Simba's return to the Pride Lands. This implies the first film's Timon never known or met Rafiki prior to Simba's return.
Another one is that the hyenas supposedly leave to pursue Timon and Pumbaa at the top of Pride Rock not hearing Scar blaming his failures on them which leads to his demise. However, this can explained that after Simba leaves to confront Scar, the hyenas overhear Timon and Pumbaa insulting them with their joke. Then, they turn around to hear Scar calling them "the real enemies". They back away after hearing his betrayal (as shown in the original film), and pursue Timon and Pumbaa.
A minor one is about the animals' reaction to Simba's ceremonial presentation. After Rafiki lifts Simba in this film to be seen, the animals are standing constantly emotionless as opposed to the original film in which the animals are instantly exuberant over the new prince's first appearance.
A fourth contradiction is that in the original film, Nala asks Timon if he had seen Simba since last night, in which Timon replies, "We thought he was with you". However, in 1½, Timon and Pumbaa see Simba leaving Nala after having an argument, and Timon rejoices over their separation.
