Once you’re absorbed by its terror, you can’t even scream. The slimy mass that is the Blob first thrilled audiences when it took on Steve McQueen on the big screen in 1958. It next oozed into cinemas via the 1972 sequel, Beware! The Blob, before being reborn in a 1988 remake directed by Chuck Russell and co-written by Frank Darabont. Proving that it’s still a relentless alien amoeba, 1958’s The Blob is being remade once again.
Goldcrest Films is moving forward with a remake of The Blob, with Simon West (The Expendables 2, Con Air) lined up for the director’s chair and shooting slated to begin this summer. Modern-day special effects capabilities are expected to bring the Blob to life like never before, and Chris Haney (Avatar, Avengers Assemble) will oversee the VFX in post-production.

Calgary - As pages go, Warren Littlefield is slightly overqualified. The Brandon Tartikoff protege spent 20 years as an executive at NBC, cultivating in a '90s run as NBC Entertainment President a gig that was, at times, rather wildly successful. On this March day in Calgary, though, Littlefield is serving as a tour-guide for a group of reporters visiting the set of his FX limited series "Fargo." Just a 10 minute drive from downtown Calgary, we've left the urban center behind and we're at a facility that is doubling for the Bemidji Police Department, as well as several other rural Minnesota hubs. Depending on which way you wander, there are interrogation rooms, a main squad area, portions of a local hospital and a middle school cafeteria, in which we're conducting most of our interviews next to a fine piece of juvenile art that has nothing to do with "Fargo," but I'm including it anyway.

This week concluded the yearly "up-fronts," where advertisers and affiliates convene in New York City so that the various networks can trot out their exciting new fall products. It brings an end to "pilot season," in which initial episodes are furiously produced and then handily judged, and kicks off the excitement for the following fall. (Even though, as we're becoming increasingly aware, the traditional notions of when shows are supposed to air and how long they're supposed to be are blurring considerably.) Out of all of the new shows – dozens and dozens of hours of freshly scripted content – we have chosen the ten shows that we find the most promising; five hour-long dramas and five sitcoms. Don't change that dial.Hour-Long Dramas "Almost Human" (Fox) Created by J.H. One of pulp fiction's most enduring characters, The Saint, could be headed back to TV.
A new version of "The Saint" starring Adam Rayner ("Hunted," "Hawthorne") as Simon Templar, a Robin Hood-esque master thief, could be coming to a TV screen near you. Eliza Dushku ("Dollhouse," "Buffy the Vampire Slayer") also stars as Patricia Holm, Templar's on-and-off love interest in author Leslie Charteris' novels.
Jesse Alexander ("Alias," "Heroes") wrote the script for the new incarnation, which also features cameos by Roger Moore, who starred as The Saint in a long-running 1960s series, and Ian Ogilvy, who revived the character in the 1970s. Simon West ("Con Air," "Keen Eddie") directed it.
The show doesn't yet have a place to air, but its producers are hoping to change that by screening the pilot at the Miptv market in Cannes next week.

Here's a great new Red-Band trailer for Niels Arden Oplev's new film Dead Man Down, which stars Colin Farrell, Noomi Rapace, Dominic Cooper, and Terrence Howard. This is the first English language film directed by the Swedish filmmaker who also directed Rapace in the original Girl with the Dragon Tattoo film trilogy.
This movie looks like it could be a solidly intense movie. There's some more new footage packed into this trailer, and there are some pretty awesome looking shots. Looks like Oplev did a solid job with this one, and I'm looking forward to seeing it. Here's the synopsis,
Colin Farrell joins the prestigious team as brave enforcer Victor, right hand man to an underground crime lord in New York City. He seeks to avenge the death of his wife and daughter caused by his boss. When his employer is threatened by a mysterious killer, Victor also becomes detective.

We first developed a crush on the Science Channel when it started replaying Firefly episodes. We became completely smitten when they sponsored the Firefly tenth anniversary panel at Comic-Con, and when we learned about the 10th anniversary special Firefly: Browncoats Unite (which you hopefully watched last night, it was So Shiny – if not, look for the replays) we knew we were fully in love.
When we learned that Science Channel had won the syndication rights to our beloved Fringe, we knew that this was not just a fling but a long-term relationship. And Science Channel is not taking us for granted but is proving its commitment to us, the geek community, by beginning its replay with not just one hour a week, but Three Hours a week, on Tuesdays (filling our previously sci-fi-less day!) And replaying the rest of the entire first season in a post-Thanksgiving marathon!

The 2012 San Diego Comic-Con programming wraps up with an abbreviated Sunday on July 15th. For the full list, check out the Con’s website. I collected the exciting panels and such for your perusal, from Fringe, Buffy The Vampire Slayer, World War Z, Supernatural and Dr. Who, below:

But, as The Hitchhiker’s Guide so sagely advises, Don’T Panic. Humor is everywhere you look in science fiction and fantasy. So wrap your towel around your head to ward off noxious fumes, and join in for an irreverent hour celebrating sly wit and unholy humor with some of the most devilish quipsters, wisecrackers, and satirists writing today.

Sunday July 15th is the last day of Comic-Con 2012, and most of us will be completely worn out looking like Spider-Man in the image above. Chances are he's asleep under that mask. Sunday has always been a cool down day for us, we kind of just try to relax a little bit more and enjoy it. That doesn't mean their isn't anything to see or do though!
We've got a Fringe screening and Q&A, Doctor Who, Buffy the Vampire Slayer 20th Anniversary, Sons of Anarchy, the annual Buffy the Vampire Slayer musical screening, and more! I've always wanted to go the Buffy musical sing-a-long, but am usually trying to leave San Diego before it starts.
Just a little reminder, we will be having our annual GeekTyrant meet up this year to meet our readers, which is something we always enjoy doing! That will take place on Wednesday night, and...

So, when can we expect the David Fincher-directed, Rooney Mara-starring remake?
I clearly jest, but it’s reported that Dragon Tattoo‘s Niels Arden Oplev and Noomi Rapace will get back together as director and star for Dead Man Down, which will also be led by Colin Farrell. The project is being sold by Im Global at this year’s American Film Market; Neil Moritz is producing through Original Films, as is writer J.H. Wyman for Frequency Films.
Farrell will be playing “Victor, right hand man to an underground crime lord in New York City who is seduced and blackmailed by Beatrice (Rapace), a crime victim seeking retribution.” Shooting on the film will begin in early 2012, making a release toward the end of next year a real possibility. The news that Laurence Fishburne is leaving "CSI" after two-plus seasons took a lot of people by surprise -- but it could end up being an opportunity for the show to reinvent itself a little bit.
When Fishburne was hired to replace the departing William Petersen in the 2008-09 season, it seemed like the right move: When the star of a series leaves, the next move is usually to find an actor of roughly equal stature to replace him. Fishburne, an Emmy-winning and Oscar-nominated actor who hadn't done a TV series in more than two decades, fit the bill perfectly.
For whatever reason, though, Fishburne's character, Dr. Raymond Langston, didn't strike the same chord among "CSI" fans that Petersen's Gil Grissom did. Petersen seems unlikely to take his old job back full-time, and Marg Helgenberger is reducing her role as well, so the show will be looking for another lead...

Question: What is up with Saturday Night Live? Who are all these people?? There are so many people in the cast that I simply can't connect to them. Back when SNL started, the Not Ready For Prime Time Players was a cast of 7 and you really "knew" them. You knew their characters, their skits, you looked forward to Roseanne Roseannadanna and Belushi's Samurai. Now with a cast of thousands (it seems), no one really cares. I, like so many others, watch the opening, fast-forward to the musical guest (maybe), watch the news, then erase. The best thing the Ptb could do would be to trim the cast, keep the ones we really like (Wiig, Kenan, Samberg, Hader, Meyers) and start writing for them, not just writing to fill the time. — Deb
Matt Roush: But then where would the next generation of SNL players come from?...

("I'll say 'Oh, of course it got picked up,"' he says in a faux haughty tone, "'I left my stuff there."') They haven't heard anything yet, but he's hopeful. "I think there's more story to be told." The same can be said of Valley's personal rise to fame. Sitting down with EW.

Planning to TiVo the Golden Globes so you can fast-forward through the awards and watch Ricky Gervais? So is Mama. Here are some more shows to add to this week’s DVR schedule: * “Human Target” (Sunday, 8 p.m. and Wednesday, 9 p.m., Fox): Mama has been waiting for Mark Valley to have a hit series ever since seeing him in “Pasadena,” now more than 10 years ago. There have been plenty of opportunities (“Keen Eddie” chief among them), but sadly,...

There are no huge mysteries at the core of "Human Target," no deep back story that's going to require a whole lot of pondering and unpacking after every episode.
And that's more than all right. What "Human Target" does have a whole lot of is fun. It's a somewhat old-fashioned and pretty kick-ass hour of TV, with great action sequences in the first two episodes and, probably more important, well-turned performances by its three regulars: Mark Valley, Chi McBride and Jackie Earle Haley.
The show is based on the DC/Vertigo comic of the same name and stars Valley as Christopher Chance, a hyper-competent private security expert who's called in to protect clients when regular protective measures won't cut it. Unlike the comics, where Chance actually becomes the people he protects through elaborate disguises, the show's Chance is basically the world's best bodyguard, skilled at all manner of combat, incredibly...

After being anceled in 2003, Family Guy was luckily able to come back after strong DVD sales for a fourth season. With a lot riding on the season, Seth MacFarlane and company did not disappoint and are of course still on the air.
Season four was the longest in the show's history with the 27 originally airing and the straight-to-dvd release of Stewie Griffin: The Untold Story later airing as part of the fourth season.
We've put together the largest collection of Family Guy quotes from the season. Here are just some of our favorites:
Peter: Everybody, I got bad news - we've been cancelled.
Lois: Oh, no. Peter, how can they do that?
Peter: Well, unfortunately, Lois, there's just no more room on the schedule. We just gotta accept the fact that Fox has to make room for terrific shows like: Dark Angel, Titus, Undeclared, Action, That 80's Show, Wonderfalls, Fastlane,...

Last week we brought you news of this new Fox series before and were able to drop some details about the show based on the DC comic, its stars Mark Valley (formerly of Fringe and the under-appreciated Keen Eddie) and Tricia Helfer (from BSG, of course) and some other tidbits. But sadly, at that time, we didn’t have anything to show which would help you, and us, get a feel for how the show would look and help figure out if it might be good or not.
Fortunately, that’s no longer the case because today there’s a brand new trailer for the show to fill in those missing pieces. In this new trailer we finally get to see not only Mark Valley as Christopher Chance, but several of the other series cast including Jackie Earle Haley and Chi McBride. We also get to see Tricia Helfer looking...

It's official: Fox has picked up Human Target, the DC Comics series created by Len Wein, Carmine Infantino, and Dick Giordano, as a new drama series this fall. The show was apparently the best-received pilot at the network's screenings last week.
The show centers on Christopher Chance (Mark Valley from Keen Eddie, Boston Legal, and Fringe) as a bodyguard with a unique form of security: he assumes the identities of people in danger, becoming the "human target" on behalf of his clients.
Jackie Earle Haley (Watchmen, Nightmare on Elm Street) and Chi McBride (Pushing Daisies, House, Boston Public) will co-star in the project written by Jon Steinberg and directed by Simon West (Con Air, Lara Croft: Tomb Raider). The two exec produced the pilot with McG (Terminator: Salvation).
This continues a long streak of Len Wein's comics work being adapted for the screen: off the top of my head,...

Fringe costars Anna Torv and Mark Valley, who have played secret lovers on TV, have confirmed they were secretly married last year. The couple tied the knot in a small, hush-hush ceremony in December after several months of dating, Torv's rep tells the Associated Press. Torv, 29, plays FBI Special Agent Olivia Dunham on the Fox series. Valley, 44, played agent John Scott when the series began last fall. "They are, as individuals, two of the most genuine, warm and sensitive people that I have ever met," fellow Fringe star Lance Reddick tells People. "I think they're a perfect fit, truly a match made in heaven,...

No, it's not Friday the 13th. But it is Halloween, and the 13th season of King of the Hill looks to be its last.
Reports are coming in that the long-running Fox comedy will not return past the 13 episodes currently in production bringing the total to something like 250. King of the Hill, created by Mike Judge and Greg Daniels, has aired on the network since 1997. Although it's not the ratings getter it once was, King stalwarts such as Ain't It Cool News' Hercules tout the series as Fox's greatest comedy. Both Judge and Daniels have moved onto other projects. Judge's newest animated comedy, The Goode Family, launches on ABC midseason, while Daniels is running NBC's smash hit The Office. Judge still supplies the voice for Hank Hill on the series.
Meanwhile, Family Guy creator Seth MacFarlane continues to enjoy his renewed success over at Fox. Variety has announced that MacFarlane's...

ABC has given a put pilot commitment to the project, which is described as a dramedy. Keen Eddie creator Joel Wyman will write the pilot script and executive produce alongside Eddie alums Simon West and Warren Littlefield. Fox 'Keen' on summer debuts
Fox Broadcasting Co. is starting to make good on its promise to shift to a year-round cycle of original programming. The network will launch a new drama series, Keen Eddie, on June 3 in the Tuesday 9 p.m. slot. Keen Eddie, from the Warren Littlefield Co. and Paramount Network TV, was picked up last year as a midseason entry for the current season. But Fox's ups and downs this season -- a rocky start in the fall followed by the explosion of its midseason reality shows Joe Millionaire and American Idol -- made it tough for the network to find the optimum time and time slot for launching the high-concept drama about a former New York cop who travels to London to track down the suspect whose machinations got him kicked off the force.
