If you had looked at the sign, you would have known they were in Austria. Not that there aren't any mountains and snow in Italy, of course.
(I think the sign says the Austrian border is 40km away, and they made reference to - when they get over the border. They were still in Italy. There is indeed snow there, as you can determine for yourself by googling "ski resort italy")
