“The Crown” could well bow out in style on home soil, with the final outing of the show leading the list of nominees for the 2024 BAFTA TV and TV Craft awards, announced Wednesday.
Netflix’s hit royal drama — which came to an end last year after six seasons — landed eight nominations in total, including for Dominic West, Elizabeth Debecki, Lesley Manville and Salim Daw in the performance categories. However, it missed out for drama series (an award it has been nominated for three times previously).
Just behind “The Crown” and also a Netflix production, the apocalyptic “Black Mirror” episode “Demon 79” earned seven nominations, including limited drama and leading actress for Anjana Vasan.
Further down in a tight group of frontrunners, BBC dramas “Happy Valley” and “The Sixth Commandment and Apple TV+’s “Slow Horses” each have six nominations. Sarah Lancashire’s leading actress nomination for “Happy Valley” could see...

Whether it may be being part of an insane psychologically-charged drama or a packed-to-the-walls action film with none other than Tom Cruise, Rebecca Ferguson can be said to have developed an iron heart and mind to take on challenges that might look crazy to many. But contrary to even she may have believed, watching Austin Butler act may have proven too much even for her.
Rebecca Ferguson in a still from Mission: Impossible- Rogue Nation
In a recent interview, the actress was asked about all the on-set details of her upcoming film Dune: Part Two, including what other stars on set were like to witness while shooting for the film. Ferguson was quick to bring Butler into the conversation, claiming that she was downright scared of him when he was in character during the filming process.

Actor George Clooney, who shares the screen with Callum Turner in ‘The Boys in the Boat’, felt that it was vital that the lip-locking was done in the old-school way. The film tells the story of the University of Washington’s rowing team and their quest for gold at the 1936 Olympics.
“The story felt like an old-fashioned film, the book did. We shot it to try to feel like old fashioned,” Clooney, 62, told ITV’s “Lorraine”.
His 33-year-old co-star was sitting next to him, and George said “There’s a big kiss at the train station and I had to talk to him…” Callum interrupted, “You had to teach me how to kiss!”
Clooney explained: “You had to kiss differently. Really like an old-fashioned movie, new movies, everyone’s got their tongues and this one had to be old-fashioned kissing,” reports aceshowbiz.com.

Big Thief have shared a remastered reissue of their 2016 debut album Masterpiece, out now via 4Ad.
When Big Thief released Masterpiece in 2016, they seemingly became indie rock royalty overnight. The Brooklyn-based band recorded the album in July 2015 at a makeshift studio in an old lakehouse with producer Andrew Sarlo and engineer James Krivchenia, the latter of whom would go on to become Big Thief’s full-time drummer.
Though its title could be used to describe the quality of the record itself, vocalist Adrianne Lenker says Masterpiece refers to “the masterpiece of existence, which is always folding into itself, people attempting to connect, to both shake themselves awake and to shake off the numbness of certain points in their life. The interpretations might be impressionistic or surrealistic, but they’re grounded in simple things.”
In additional Big Thief news, the band has also unveiled an official karaoke YouTube channel so that...

Vanessa Kirby, who will be seen in Tom Cruise’s upcoming action-thriller movie ‘Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One’, after featuring in the 2018 film ‘Mission: Impossible – Fallout’, has said that no actress in the ‘Mission: Impossible’ franchise will be seen wearing a bikini.
According to FemaleFirst, the 35-year-old star has said that times have changed since the days of Bond girls who would often be seen donning various styles of bikini in the spy-thriller franchise films.
However, speaking of her own role or those of her fellow co-stars such as Hayley Atwell, Rebecca Ferguson, and Pom Klementieff in ‘M:i 7’, audiences will “barely even see a wrist” of theirs in the movie, let alone a bikini.
As reported by FemaleFirst, while speaking to ITV’s ‘Lorraine’, the actress said: “The best journey of movies is when you have this really immersive, intense experience as a family, and obviously I...

We love a famous friendship, and there are few as adorable as the bond between Niall Horan and Lewis Capaldi. The duo are both incredibly talented musicians who've supported each other's careers for years. Most recently, Horan has spoken out in support of his friend after Capaldi announced he was taking a break from performing live following a difficult Glastonbury set.
"I speak to Lewis most days to be honest with you. So I'm really happy for Lewis that he's able to take the time that he obviously feels he needs right now," Horan told The Sun on June 27. "But performing never gets easy. I don't think you ever truly get used to singing in front of 100,000 people. If you have any sort of performance anxieties or anything like that then that stage can be a tough place."
Capaldi opened up about his Tourette's diagnosis and health concerns, including panic attacks,...

Ed Sheeran and his wife, Cherry Seaborn, are relishing the little moments of everyday parenthood. The couple, who became engaged just before New Year's at the end of 2017, tied the knot quietly in 2018. A comment Fred Sirieix made about Gordon, Gino and Fred: Road Trip has resurfaced in the wake of his co-star’s decision to quit.
On Sunday (19 March), Gino D’Acampo revealed he would no longer be a part of the series due to “problems” behind-the-scenes.
In a video shared with his social media followers, the celebrity chef said that “complications” with contracts had led to his decision, and said he would rather quit than damage his friendship with both Sirieix and Gordon Ramsay.
Just 10 days ago, during a chat with Lorraine Kelly on the ITV morning show Lorraine, Sirieix addressed these complications, stating: “We are talking about dates for the next one. It is difficult to juggle all of our diaries.”
He told MailOnline the previous week, while promoting his latest series, Fred’s Last Resort: “It is a bit difficult to juggle all our diaries, but we are getting there.

Spin the wheel and win some heating. This was the premise of a segment on ITV’s This Morning earlier this week. Hosts Phillip Schofield and Holly Willoughby stood beside a spinwheel contraption, upon which were marked various monetary values and, on some spaces, the promise of four months’ energy bills, paid for by the programme.
The segment was using the impending energy crisis as a topical hook to spice up a routine prize giveaway, but there was something discomfortingly crass about it – made all the worse by the desperation in the phone-in contestant’s voice, his audible relief when the dial landed on “bills”. The clip was rightly condemned; words like “dystopian” have been thrown around without hyperbole. On Wednesday, the “household bills” prizes were removed from the Spin to Win competition. But while This Morning’s cost of living crisis carnival game may indeed have been a low-rent display of socio-political tone-deafness,...

Time’s Up U.K. has issued a statement regarding actor John Barrowman’s appearance on a British talk show, in which he claimed that repeatedly exposing his penis on set and in interviews “absolutely is not” sexual harassment.
There have been multiple reports of Barrowman, who has appeared in shows including “Doctor Who” and “Torchwood,” exposing himself publicly for over a decade. On Tuesday, the Scottish-born American actor appeared on ITV’s “Lorraine” to discuss the incidents, which he admitted to, albeit with various caveats.
“The assertion by John Barrowman that his well-documented actions do not constitute sexual harassment reveals yet again the need for the entertainment industry to underline and reassert expected standards of behaviour of which this is wholly unacceptable,” a spokesperson for Time’s Up U.K. told Variety. “Flashing people Is sexual harassment and it is never funny.”

Anti-vaccine protesters have tried to storm a building at the Television Centre complex in west London.
Videos shared online show a mob, believed to be protesting against vaccine passports, vaccines for children and media bias, trying to enter the complex in White City and scuffling with police, some of whom use batons to quell demonstrators.
Footage online shows protestors gathering at nearby Shepherds Bush before marching on the BBC Studioworks building and trying to break a police line protecting the building. BBC Studioworks is a commercial arm of the corporation which has operated several studios at the site since 2017.
Protesters in videos shout “shame on you, shame on you”, with one giving a speech, accusing the BBC of “not giving out the right information” and claiming “they are coming for our f****** children.”
The confused demonstrators seemingly didn’t get the memo that the BBC largely vacated the premises eight years ago.

For Camila Cabello, social media can be a powerful microphone—but sometimes she needs to lower the volume. "Yesterday, I had a day off and I was just like, 'I can't be on social media today,'" the Cinderella star told U.K. morning show Lorraine's Ross King on Aug. 3, "I just notice it just makes my brain go so fast and sometimes you just need to take a break." As a public figure, the 24-year-old Fifth Harmony alum knows all too well the ways in which the internet can be a double-edged sword: One minute it's connecting you with fans, the next it's an echo chamber of harsh criticism. She went on to talk about the...

Jessie Cave is opening up about her family's health. During a Tuesday, Jan. 12 episode of the British talk show Lorraine, the Harry Potter star shared an update on her newborn since the news broke of the baby boy contracting Covid-19. "We're much better, we're doing well, thank you," said the 33-year-old. "Nothing's gone to plan, which I guess everyone can relate to this year, but it was a really, really scary start because he was in the neonatal unit after a really, really sudden quick labor. He came out within 45 minutes, so he was just a bit like, 'What's going on?'" "He's 11 weeks now," Jessie continued. "I just couldn't believe it...

Something that Doctor Who fans thought they’d never see is actually happening. Christopher Eccleston, who’s stood apart from the sci-fi franchise since he left after just one season back in 2005, is returning as the Ninth Doctor for a new series of official audio dramas. The news was revealed earlier this year and this week, Eccleston confirmed that he’s started recording the audio series by sharing a sneak peek at the script for the first episode on social media.

Public service broadcaster ITV has been found in breach of fairness rules around competitions involving members of the public, U.K. media regulator Ofcom has found.
An Ofcom investigation found that some 41,000 viewers who had entered competitions between 2016-2019 with postal votes were excluded from prize draws. The ITV competitions involved include “Good Morning Britain,” “Lorraine,” “This Morning,” “Loose Women,” “Ant and Dec’s Saturday Night Takeaway,” “La Vuelta” and “X Factor: The Band.”
The breach was noticed by ITV, and after an internal process of examination, the broadcaster referred the matter to Ofcom, thus prompting the investigation.
“Our investigation found that people who entered these competitions by post were excluded from the draw, with no chance of winning,” an Ofcom spokesperson said. “ITV failed to follow proper procedures and this led to a clear breach of our rules, which require all broadcast competitions to be conducted fairly.”

Emma Stone is indisputably the biggest Olivia Colman fangirl, but Julia Roberts could give her a run for her money. The Oscar winner is longtime Colman admirer and was “absolutely thrilled” when she took home the Best Actress Oscar for “The Favourite.”
“She’s so fantastic,” Roberts gushed to the UK’s ITV show “Lorraine” while promoting “Ben Is Back,” revealing that she got tongue-tied when they met. “I actually had the good fortune of meeting her briefly, kind of getting a couple of words out of my mouth towards her at the Golden Globes. And I loved ‘The Favourite’ and I was just absolutely thrilled when she won.”
Roberts watched Colman’s surprise victory from backstage at the Oscars as she was preparing to present Best Picture. She even Instagrammed a shot of Colman mid-speech, writing, “I [heart] Olivia!” And this love affair is indeed pure. “Well, who doesn’t [love her]?” she quipped.

The third film sired from author E.L. James’ original “Fifty Shades” trilogy arrives in theaters Friday, and critics are largely miffed that Universal Pictures opted for such a conventional closure. “Fifty Shades Freed” begins with the marriage of Anastasia Steele (Dakota Johnson) and Christian Grey (Jamie Dornan), the billionaire who introduced her to Bdsm. IndieWire was kinder than most, giving chapter three a B.
“Because Ana and Christian have already reached their happy equilibrium together, returning director James Foley and screenwriter Niall Leonard must mine exterior sources of dramatic strain,” writes Screen Daily. Thus the narrative of their sexual power struggle is supplanted by thrown punches, racing sports cars, and even a kidnapping subplot. Still, reviewers were often disenchanted that the Greys have become just another procreating couple occupied with household concerns.

With Sherlock on indefinite hiatus and the pair moving away from Doctor Who, Steven Moffat and Mark Gatiss will next be devoting their energies into modernizing another British classic in their upcoming Dracula TV series.
Everything about the duo’s interpretation of the oft-adapted tale of the world’s most famous vampire is currently being kept tightly under wraps. For instance, we don’t know anything about the format, the cast or whether it will follow Sherlock and be set in contemporary times or if it will stick with the Victorian setting of Bram Stoker’s novel.
However, Mark Gatiss might have given us our first clue about the project in the form of who he might play in it. While talking on UK daytime talk show Lorraine, Gatiss explained that he’s not sure if he’s going to act in Dracula as well as write it. But, if he does,...

True to the old adage of one door opening just as another begins to close, this year’s Doctor Who Christmas Special, “Twice Upon a Time,” will herald the beginning of a “whole new era.”

It’s going on 12 years since Christopher Eccleston bid farewell to Doctor Who, but it seems the English thesp still has a strong opinion on the BBC’s sci-fi flagship.
As reported by Digital Spy, Eccleston recently swung by ITV chat show Lorraine to discuss Doctor Who, a series that he believes was in dire need of a shakeup prior to the casting of Jodie Whittaker, the first female Time Lord. The actor also called out the BBC for playing it safe, given all other incarnations of the Doctor have been played by “skinny white men.”
The advent of the 13th Time Lord changes all that (thank heavens!), and Christopher Eccleston believes the BBC could not have chosen someone better than the incoming Jodie Whittaker.

Prior to his motorcycle crash, the star went to the hospital twice after he decided to try an unusual pain remedy – injecting bee venom.

It's finally here! The Labour Day weekend isn't really the end of summer, but it certainly feels that way. Maybe it's the residual instinct ingrained in us after years of elementary and high school, when summertime meant freedom from school for a full two months and September meant the end of all that and the return to teachers, books, and (ugh) homework.
No matter how you feel about the holiday, there's still lots of ways to squeeze the most fun possible out of your extra day off! And what better way to while away an afternoon than with a movie at a Cineplex theatre. Without further ado, here's our recommendations for what to see in theatres this long weekend!
