NBC launched the "America's Talking" cable channel in July 1994. In January 1996 NBC announced that it was converting the channel into MSNBC by forming a joint venture with Microsoft. The channel re-launched July 15, 1996.
MSNBC's World Headquarters, in Secaucus, New Jersey, was occupied in 1997 after the network started its life in an office building in Fort Lee, New Jersey. MSNBC hired contractors to convert a closed Jamesway retail warehouse into a state of the art broadcast facility.
