The film won 2 Kerala State Film Awards. The Best Story for it's director Sathyan Anthikkad and the Best Actor award for Mohanlal.

By winning Kerala State Film Award for Best Actor for this film, Mohanlal became the youngest actor ever (at age 26) recipient of the award. He held this record until 2006 when Prithviraj Sukumaran won the award at age 24 for Vaasthavam.
Not only did this movie win Lalettan his first Kerala State Film Award for Best Actor, it was also his first Best Actor Award in his film career.
