This show received poor enough ratings and audience reaction to justify it being canceled after 13 episodes, leaving 5 episodes unseen. The remaining 6 episodes received their first airing on the Paramount Comedy Channel in the UK, at 2.30pm on weekday afternoons. They were also released on the series' DVD release.
One of the biggest criticisms that season 5 of Ellen (1994) received was that the show had become more focused on Ellen's sexuality rather than telling a good story, and that Ellen Morgan being a lesbian seemed to become the focal point of the season. As a result, the protagonist Ellen Richmond in this show, while also a lesbian, doesn't have episodes that focus exclusively on her sexuality and is instead an incidental part of her character. This show would still be cancelled anyway.
This was Ellen DeGeneres' second attempt at a sitcom after her show Ellen (1994) had been cancelled.
