- This film is a compilation of four (4) short films in a series starring the Ruffino family. The films consists of basic comedy plots that provide plenty of opportunities for the Ruffino family to sing.
- In the late 1950's and early 1960's , the singing quartet The Ruffinos formed by husband and wife Ignacio and Mercedes Ruffino, with daughter Julie, and son Carlos, was one of Latin America's top acts and a recording sensation.
After singing their hits in several films as "special guests", The Ruffinos were seen as potential comedy actors by screenwriter-director Julio Porter who created a Marx Brothers-like concept for them. The "Familia Ruffino" project was developed at Estudios America in Mexico City, as a series of short films, 25 to 35 minutes long, to be shown as featurettes in Mexico's cinemas. Each chapter of the series told a new adventure in the life of the famous family who played themselves and sang some of the best tunes of the Latin America Songbook.
It was a big hit with moviegoers everywhere while film critics loved the excellent production values, zany scripts, and the brilliant performances by the Ruffinos. At some point, it was decided by the producers to unite three or four of these Ruffino featurettes and release them as a full feature film to theaters and later to television. "Una gira A.T.M." is one of those compilations containing the following episodes:
1. "Contrabandistas" (Smugglers) The police confuse the Rufinos with a band of smugglers.
2. "Hay un indio en tu futuro" (There's an Indian in your future) Julie Ruffino falls in love with an Indian chief who looks straight out of an old Western movie.
3. "Al diablo con la música" The Ruffinos are tired of their working schedule and decide to stop performing and follow their own individual interests.
4. "Una gira A.T. M." (A hectic performance tour) The Ruffinos are sent by their promoters on a crazy multinational performing tour.
