United Colors of Ass

I bought and watched this video due to my currently thorough survey of the career of director Bud Lee, expecting wall-to-wall sex judging by its title and a long-running series that followed. But I was pleasantly surprised that this is a true Old School story-line feature, the brainchild of star and co-director Midori.

It is set in the world of the cosmetics industry, with Midori a top model who (not unlike so many real-life counterparts) had developed a line of fragrances that are in hot demand. Industrial espionage on the part of villains Chris Cannon and Julie Meadows (latter cast against type, usually so sweet and innocent) attempt to steal the valuable Midori formula, but things work out well in the end, at least in this debut episode. (Midori is not back in future volumes for some reason.)

The lovely lineup of leading ladies chosen for their differing ethnicities looks beautiful in great costumes (as well as out of them), suitably cast as models. With Midori backed by Asia Carrera (Lee's better half), Jill Kelly and Crystal Knight, plus future superstar Raveness also on board, this is an amazing group.

Lee keeps matters light and entertaining, while co-director Midori gets to assert herself in a strong scene where she chews out her fellow models (no puns please!) for being lazybones and humping when they should be working. Without putting over-emphasis upon the Benetton inspired film title, the movie demonstrates in its complementary casting that all races and derivations deserve a shot in Adult features, though the reality still persists that Black and Oriental women mainly work in gimmick videos with racist titles.
