For anybody who has seen the recently released Flaming Lips Science Fiction fever dream, 'Christmas On Mars',this film should be of relevant interest. The Residents worked on 'Vileness Fats' for something like nearly five years, shooting on crude black & white video rather than film stock. The intent was to create the ultimate midnight cult film. With innovations in video equipment making their little kitchen sink movie look downright primitive, the Residents quietly shelved the project, focusing on their music, instead. Nearly nine years later,The Cryptic Corporation (the owners/distributors of the Residents record label..Ralph Records)decided to release portions of the doomed movie project, with a brand new music score (provided by The Residents, themselves)to cover over the badly recorded original sound. This became, 'Whatever Happened To Vileness Fats'. Don't watch this expecting a cohesive plot. It's basically a cheaply produced home movie that's a goof to watch. This cheesy little short (about half an hour running time, which is good..as more than an hour would be unwatchable)was released on a VHS video cassette with a forty minute short of the Residents 'Mole Show'--which was a concert video with footage shot on their 'Mark Of The Mole' tour in Europe & the U.S.A.). No MPAA rating, but nothing to offend (depending on your musical tastes).
