Ben van Rooyen is asked to examine a valuable Kris (Indonesian dagger) that is up for auction. He becomes convinced it a holy family heirloom and want to buy it for the institute that employs him. However, an antique dealer named Santos is also very interested in the Kris. The two of them get involved in a bidding duel during the auction, in which Ben ends up bidding more money than the institute had alloted him. After Ben wins the item, Santos immediately offers to buy it from him at a profit.

Ben has become quite obsessed by the Kris. He is also having strange dreams about the original owner, who's spirit is said to reside in the ancient weapon. When Ben is at work, his younger brother Mark notices a Chinese man leaving Ben's apartment. Sure enough, the entire place has been ransacked but nothing is missing - because Ben had taken the Kris along to the institute.

Ben visits Professor Smit to learn more about the mysterious Kris. He leaves the heirloom in the professor's keeping, but that same night a Chinese man wearing an Indonesian mask manages to elude the house security and break in.

Mark is asked to identify the man who stole the Kris Pusaka from the security camera footage. Both he and Ben are convinced Santos is behind the theft, but Inspector Sanders has no proof. His assistant Vink begins shadowing Santos.

Mark has followed Santos in Rotterdam and spots him talking to the Chinaman. The police manage to arrest both men, but are forced to release Santos and can do no more than deport the illegal alien. However Sanders and Vink notice Santos is leaving the country as well, for Indonesia and search his baggage, to no avail.

Santos has arrived in Jakarta, Indonesia with the stolen Kris hidden in an accomplish' umbrella. He sets out to find the rightful owners in order to sell it back to them at an enormous profit. Mark has passed is his exams and is therefor allowed to accompany Ben to Indonesia. The brothers are unaware that they end staying up in the same hotel as Santos.

Santos has been killed in his hotel room and the Kris is the murder weapon. Inspector Maramis agrees to return the Kris to Ben, since he is still the rightful owner. However, he soon meets Hanindyo Suryakusama, to who's family the holy weapon originally belonged. When he compares the Kris with pictures from the auction, he notices a difference between them. There are two Krisses.

Hanindyo explains the history of the two Kris Pusata's to Ben. He tells under which circumstances they were created and why one of them is cursed. He also hints that history has repeated itself in his family more recently. They come to the conclusion that the 'evil' Kris that is now in their possession has to be return to the fire from whence it came.

Hanindyo explains that there was a rift between himself and his younger brother Sudjono. Ben seeks out Sudjono, who he suspects of killing Santos and taking the 'good' Kris for himself. Sudjono turns out to be a master in the martial art of Silah.

Sudjono's wife Aryati secretly returns the Kris to Ben. Sudjono, who needs the Kris for luck during an upcoming fight, tries to reason with Ben the next day, but Ben is adamant to return the heirloom Hanindyo instead. Mark and his girlfriend Wati disagree and steal the weapon to give it to Sudjono.

Mark and Wati are being followed by a mysterious man with binoculars as they are trying to get the Kris to Sudjono. Ben learns from Sudjono's guru about his fight against 'The Tiger', a fight between Silah masters to the death. He becomes conflicted about what to do with the Kris.

The Kris has caused another conflict between a pair of brothers, this time Ben and Mark. However, they manage to reunite Hanindyo with his estranged brother Sudjono just before his fateful fight against the Tiger. Hanindyo agrees to let Sudjono have the Kris until after the fight.

Everybody converges at the secret location where the two Silah masters are to duel. Afterwards, and before heading back to the Netherlands, Ben and Mark visit Hanindyo, who has taken possession of the heirloom.
