The production was shot without a completed script. As a result, there were many delays and arguments over what to shoot. James Gandolfini admitted, in a behind the scenes interview, that most of the film was "improvised".

Goofs
There are no mountain ranges, such as the one depicted, within hundreds of miles of Chicago. However, it's possible that Drew, with his resources, "whisked" the family away to Colorado for the day.

It's FUNNY... I swear!

Yes, yes... it's goofy, it's a ridiculous concept and features someone us little folk all love to hate: an entitled, overly-rich marketing executive. BUT it's hilarious, starting with a "Have you seen my stapler?" (Stephen Root) cameo and then a shovel blow. James Gandolpfini delivers beautiful deadpan comedy! The legendary Catherine O'Hara & Christina Applegate are fantastic additions. I'll even say Ben is okay.

It's in our Christmas movie rotation every year. I watch it with my 15 & 22 year old sons, it's definitely pg-13. If you like goofy comedies, don't listen to critics... give it shot!
