This special was the first appearance of Jim Henson's characters after his death. Steve Whitmire took over the role of Kermit the Frog and performed it until Disney fired him in October 2016.

Quotes
[after learning about Jim Hensen's death, Fozzie has tearfully decided to cancel the final production number for the tribute to Jim Hensen - deeming the big musical comedy number as improper for the occasion, much to everyone's sadness. Robin, however, thinks otherwise]
Robin the Frog: [to Fozzie, kindly] Kermit thought we could.
Fozzie Bear: [despairing] Oh, but Robin, all we have is silly songs and whoopee cushions!
Robin the Frog: Well, maybe that's enough. That's what uncle Kermit says, "Take what ya got and fly with it!"
Fozzie Bear: Fly with it? Kermit says that?

Alternate versions
Steve Whitmire re-recorded his lines as Kermit at some point after the initial airing of this special because he was not satisfied with his initial vocal performance. The re-recorded vocal track was subsequently dubbed-in and used in repeat airings.

A great way to deal with a hard subject

This is one of the saddest movies I have ever seen. Filmed after Jim Henson's death, the Muppets work to discover information about Henson so they can plan a memorial.

In typical Muppet fashion, the muppets have taken a difficult subject and found a way to handle it in a touching, funny, and sad way. I love this movie!
