Who do we traditionally consider to be Danish on screen, and why?
That is the question diversity action group ‘A Bigger Picture’ (Et Større Billede) is attempting to ask with its new visual campaign, which has sparked a controversial debate about representation and racism within the Danish film and TV industry.
The group, which comprises diverse members of the Danish industry, was created by actresses Laura Allen Müller (Borgen), Sandra Yi Sencindiver (Bäckström), Malaika B. Mosendane (Get a Life), Şiir Tilif (Borderline), and Dorcas Joanna Hansen. They teamed up during the pandemic through an informal support group for Danish actresses of color started by Sencindiver.
“It was just like a sisters network that’s been ongoing since 2020,” Sencindiver said.

Welcome to the Blumhouse is set to unveil an unsettling small screen cinematic experience for Amazon Prime Video subscribers from the safety and (dis)comfort of their own homes.
Blumhouse Television and Amazon Studios have teamed up to conjure Welcome to the Blumhouse, a collection of all-new, diversely-themed, brand-unified films from the eponymous fabricators of film frights, arriving just in time for a Halloween season that—unprecedentedly—won’t likely involve trick-or-treating. The first four in a total of eight films will have dual premieres on Amazon Prime Video across two weeks, starting on October 6, with Black Box and Evil Eye, followed by The Lie and Nocturne on October 13. Indeed, while the horror anthology series concept has experienced a resurgence in recent years, Blumhouse has upped the ante with a franchise of full-length horror anthology films.

When you think of modern horror, you can always guarantee that at least one of the movies that pops into your mind will have come from Blumhouse, who’ve cornered the market in recent years when it comes to crafting low-budget titles that reap huge rewards at the box office.

The poster for the program of four films — “Nocturne,” “Black Box,” “Evil Eye,” and “The Lie” — promises “Four unsettling films. Under one roof.” Blumhouse TV co-presidents Marci Wiseman and Jeremy Gold liken the programming block to a “classic drive-in or repertory theater experience.”
Amazon is promising Blumhouse’s signature suspense in each of the films, which each offer unique perspectives on common themes centered around family and love as a redemptive or destructive force. Writers and directors are a mix of established and emerging talent.
Here’s a look at the first four films:

EA ended the recent EA Play livestream by confirming that a new Skate game is finally in development.
The Skate announcement was made by game director Deran Chung and fellow Skate alumni Cuz Parry who took time to thank the fans for essentially “commenting” this project into existence. That’s a reference to the years of passionate pleas from Skate fans who felt that EA has ignored the franchise for too long.
While original Skate developer EA Black Box was formally shut down in 2013, comments made by Chung and Parry hinted that most of the old gang has stayed in touch over the years. That would tend to suggest that many of the original Skate developers will be collaborating on this new project, but the exact studio in charge of the game hasn’t been confirmed at this time.

(Warning: The following story contains major spoilers for the series finale of “Homeland”)
Showtime ended “Homeland” by giving Carrie (Claire Danes) one last, probably permanent, mission — sending her to spend the rest of her life publicly as an American pariah, and secretly as a spy for Saul.
For co-showrunner Alex Gansa, that was the most fitting way to end her eight-season journey, in what Gansa described as “not entirely tragic.” We’ll let him explain.
“We didn’t want to see her end in a way that killed hope,” Gansa told TheWrap. “We decided to give her a mission and decided to give her a guy, but also decided to make it clear that she sacrificed a hell of a lot to get there.”

The events that went down at Jordan Hall in August 1971 have been recounted numerous times and inspired at least two films already - Oliver Hirschbiegel's excellent Das Experiment (2001) starring Moritz Bleibtreu and Paul Scheuring's American remake from 2010, starring Adrien Brody and Forest Whitaker. For this latest adaptation, writer Tim Talbott and director Kyle Patrick Alvarez return to the source for a meticulous account of exactly what happened - and why - at the Californian university. The experiment itself involved converting a disused teachers wing at Stanford University into a prison facility. Volunteers would be paid $15 per day to take part in the two week experiment. After preliminary interviews, the volunteers were then randomly assigned roles either as prisoners or guards. There were very...

Kyle Patrick Alvarez’s The Stanford Prison Experiment is a mostly faithful dramatization of an infamous 1971 study conducted by Stanford psychology professor Philip Zimbardo (played by Billy Crudup in the film), in which 24 male students were selected and paid $15 a day to pretend to be captives and guards in a simulated prison environment. The results, without giving too much away, were eye-opening: The subjects took to their roles so well that the study has gone down in history as a demonstration of how authoritarian systems operate. The original experiment has inspired a number of movies, books, and plays, among them Oliver Hirschbiegel’s intense 2001 film Das Experiment. But often the simulated prisons in those works look like prisons; the environments are big and feel genuinely oppressive. Adhering more closely to the historical record, The Stanford Prison Experiment shows us that the whole experiment was conducted in a nondescript hallway...

If only he had 13 more minutes, the world would be an entirely different place. The new film from German director Oliver Hirschbiegel (Das Experiment, Downfall, The Invasion), titled 13 Minutes, premiered at the Berlin Film Festival this week. It's a solid thriller that tells the true story of carpenter Georg Elser, a resistance fighter who designed a bomb and attempted to kill Hitler in 1939, but was unsuccessful by only 13 minutes. It feels very much like Germany's response to The Imitation Game, highlighting an individual who tried to impact WWII for the better and wasn't recognized by his country for many years. It's also everything that Valkyrie should've been, but wasn't, and explores Georg's life leading up to and after the bombing. I'm not sure why so many critics are out to hate this film, but it's certainly not bad by any means (contrary to what some might be claiming). It's not perfect either,...

Hans Funck, the German film editor of such features as the Oscar-nominated Downfall and Sophie Scholl: The Final Days, died suddenly on Wednesday night in Munich. He was 61. One of Germany's most acclaimed editors, Funck was perhaps most closely associated with Downfall director Oliver Hirschbiegel. Before the biopic Diana hits theaters here in the United States, it will debut overseas, but the word from the title princess' homeland hasn't been all that favorable. Some reviews have called the film "terrible and tacky" and "a right royal mess." We're hoping that maybe the lead performance from Naomi Watts at least gives audiences something to latch onto. While we're waiting for the release, here's a new theatrical trailer for the film from Downfall director Oliver Hirschbiegel. We'll admit the film looks a little formualic and melodramatic, but when it comes to the royal family, people just eat this kind of story up. Watch it below! While the previous trailers for Oliver Hirschbiegel's romantic biopic Diana about the late Princess of Wales mostly focused on the icon of the people's princess, a new international trailer goes full speed for love. Naomi Watts plays the title royal as she attempts to find happiness in a secret love affair with Dr. Hasnat Kahn (Naveen Andrews), who was her secret lover for two years before their relationship was revealed in 2008. From disguising herself so she can go out in public to get a date with the doctor to the struggling relationship because of Diana's fame, this all feels a little artificial in this film package, but it's all based on her real story. Hopefully the film is a little less melodramatic than the trailers indicate. Watch! "He doesn't treat me like a princess. It's almost as if he doesn't know who I am." After the teaser trailer for Oliver Hirschbiegel's biopic on Princess Diana only showed Naomi Watts as the title royal, a new international trailer for Diana finally begins to unfold the whole story. "Lost" star Naveen Andrews plays Dr. Hasnat Kahn, who was her secret lover for two years before their relationship was revealed in 2008. At times this feels a bit melodramatic, but Watts' puts on an awards worthy performance, and the attention to detail to real-life is impressive, especially the sequence which turns into a real tabloid snapshot. People of the world, loyal subjects, take your first look at Naomi Watts playing Diana, Princess of Wales; the People's Princess; Princess of Hearts; the Candle in the Wind. There's no dialogue, just plenty of shots to sell Watts as Diana, which means lots of recreating iconic scenes, lots of smiling and nodding, and of course that tremendous bouffant of blonde hair doing most of the work in bridging the gap.Directed by German filmmaker Oliver Hirschbiegel (Das Experiment, Downfall) Diana has been described as the "love story between a princess locked in a tower and an ordinary man," the man in this case being heart surgeon Dr. Hasnat Kahn, that lasted from 1995 until a few months before her death in 1997, with her divorce from...

The most famous woman in the world. The first UK teaser trailer has been unveiled for Diana, the Princess Diana film starring Naomi Watts, which was shot late last year to much paparazzi hoopla. This is pretty much everything you'd expect for a trailer for a film about Diana, with triumphant music for "The People's Princess" and plenty of paparazzi in the film, plus lots of smiling and emoting and the oh so typical running-while-upset scene. Watts actually looks good as Princess Di, but she's the only one they show, obviously. The cast includes Naveen Andrews as Dr. Khan, but he isn't featured yet. Anyone curious should take a look. They've tackled Marilyn Monroe in every way, now who's next? How about Princess Diana. Actress Naomi Watts is already in the middle of shooting a new movie under the title Caught in Flight, or also just Diana, where she plays Princess Diana, who died a tragic young death at age 36. There have been a flurry of unnecessary paparazzi photos of the shoot in London showing up online recently, but cutting through all the crap, they've debuted one official photo, found via Empire. It's your standard first look at an actress looking quite perfectly like the real-life person they're portraying, but it's better than all the paparazzi shots at least. It seems that every award season cinemas big and small are assaulted by a glut of biopics. Whether they are a retelling of an inspirational personal triumph al a 127 Hours or whether they retell the stories of life’s heroes and characters. Already in the run-in to 2012’s Oscar Ceremony we have already had Phyllida Lloyd’s the iron lady which had a powerhouse of a performance from Meryl Streep, so at least there was some value if everything else was such a cataclysmic misfire. Other recent and forthcoming biopics include J.Edgar and Albert Nobbs. Instead of looking forward to those films, I will use this opportunity to list some examples of biopics that show how varied this mode of storytelling can be, without that reliance of awards baiting coming into view.

Winner of the best short film Oscar in 2009 for Toyland, Jochen Alexander Freydank is currently prepping his first feature length project. According to THR, Freydank will adapt the rom-com best-seller Macho Man for Walt Disney Germany.
The film will be based off of Moritz Netenjakob‘s novel of the same name, which tells the story of a sensitive German man who attempts to be macho in order to land a sexy Turkish girl. Friedrich Mücke (Friendship!) will star alongside Pegah Ferydoni (Turkish For Beginners). The Experiment‘s Marc Conrad will produce under his ConradFilm banner with Klaus Dohle of Erfttalfilm.
Freydank isn’t the only recent award-winning short director with the opportunity to make his way into the world of feature lengths. We reported just a few weeks ago that Fox has hired Jesus Orellana to direct the feature length adaptation of his own sci-fi short Rosa, after it went viral back in November.
