Most know Dan Bucatinsky as James Novak on the extremely addicting ABC hit Scandal, but if you really knew everything else he does during his "free-time" you would realize he's just as busy as Olivia Pope. Starting off as just an actor in L.A., Bucatinsky soon became a writer, author, and a producer after meeting a certain friend. During a recent interview with him, Bucatinsky opened up about his hectic (but exciting) schedule and working with his business partner Lisa Kudrow.

"I've always sort of been a hyphenating kind of guy. Even in college I couldn't pick my major and I wanted to combine three or four or five different majors and I did that," he starts off. "I came out to L.A. to be an actor and writing became a means to an end to me.

This month the highly-anticipated sitcom Partners premiered, with Michael Urie and David Krumholtz playing best friends and business partners inspired by the real-life friendship between Will & Grace creators Max Mutchnik and David Kohan. The big deal is, of course, that these two guys are best friends despite one’s being straight and the other’s being gay. I know – Can You Imagine?!?!
Yes, we can. Though our entertainments tend to like to plop us gay guys at the ladies' table, many of us have wonderfully rich relationships with straight men, sexualities be damned. And while Partners may be the highest-profile project that specifically tackles the topic of "bro/'mos" (Patent Pending), over the years there have been some great movies and shows that have featured best buds who bat for different teams. Here are a few of our faves.

Brace yourselves. This list of the Top 100 Greatest Gay Movies is probably going to generate some howls of protest thanks to a rather major upset in the rankings. Frankly, one that surprised the hell out of us here at AfterElton.
But before we get to that, an introduction. A few weeks ago we asked AfterElton readers to submit up to ten of their favorite films by write-in vote. We conducted a similar poll several years ago, but a lot has happened culturally since then, and a number of worthy movies of gay interest have been released. We wanted to see how your list of favorites had changed.
We also wanted to expand our list to 100 from the top 50 we had done previously. We figured there were finally enough quality gay films to justify the expansion. And we wanted to break out gay documentaries onto their own list (You'll find the...

Dan Bucatinsky is the actor and producer behind the Lisa Kudrow TV gems Web Therapy and The Comeback, as well as the cult gay romantic comedy All Over the Guy. His newest endeavor is Does This Baby Make Me Look Straight?, a memoir detailing his experience as a father along with his husband and producing partner Don Roos. We spoke with Dan about parenthood, gay representation in the media, and his role in the NBC drama Scandal.
AfterElton: What made you decide to write Does This Baby Make Me Look Straight?
Dan Bucatinsky: You know, I'd like to say that it was a decision that I set out to write a book, and the truth is I didn't really, not at the beginning. About five years ago, right around the time that I became a parent, I started performing with other authors and writers and comedians in an evening...

A few weeks ago we asked readers to submit up to five of their favorite movies in our third annual favorite gay film poll. We wanted to see which older gay films have timeless appeal and which recent gay films you judged important enough to register in the rankings.
After voting closed we sorted through the nearly 15,000 nominations (representing over 500 individual titles) to identify your top fifty favorite gay films.
Tabulating this data is actually a bit harder than it sounds. For instance, do you know how many different ways our readers can type/abbreviate "The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert?" We counted about a dozen!
But we're not complaining, because the list that resulted this year is actually rather interesting.
Nine new films made their way into the rankings, and five of these are of very recent vintage. This represents a strong showing for current queer cinema.

What qualities do you look for in an actor when casting a comedy?Daniel TalbottNew York; founding artistic director, Rising Phoenix RepI know it's often one of the hardest things to do, especially when you're auditioning for a comedy, but I love when an actor focuses on the action and truth of the scene instead of trying to be funny. If possible, let the play do the work, and if it's funny and you're able to embody the character honestly and are making strong, bold, and high-stakes choices, usually the play will carry you. You'll be funny in the context of the story instead of just trying to get laughs.I think in most plays, comedy is about action and the extremity of the situation. We laugh because there's something so human about what's happening onstage that it touches the clownish humanity in all of us.There are definitely comedies that require a certain style,...

Why aren’t there more good gay movies? We hear this complaint at AfterElton.com a lot, and we’ve even made it a few times ourselves (although we think the results of this poll prove that there are more good movies than many of us think!).
There are surely many reasons why more “mainstream” movies don’t include gay or bisexual themes, but no doubt one of them is heterosexual discomfort – not just discomfort on the part of audiences and network executives, but also discomfort on the part of critics and others to champion these films.
This is where our poll of AfterElton.com readers on the 50 Greatest Gay Movies comes in. We can think of no better way to encourage the creation of more good gay movies than to praise and support the existence of past good gay movies!
How does this list compare to our previous poll?...
